This break is good for the older players like Messi, Pique, Alba, etc. They need more rest than younger players. Also gives the team time to get back their injured players. Johan Cryuff stadium is a better place to play with no audience. Hope we can watch them this year, but I have my doubts.

I went to Barcelona last summer, and I even went to Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, their training centre. At that time, the Johann Cruyyf arena had almost finished getting constructed. It's literally less than a minute of walking from the training centre.

The tricky thing about fitness is just how difficult it is to be at one's very best. And the reason that age is a factor is that it becomes more difficult to maintain that level of fitness. And the almost impossible thing as you near retirement age is to regain a certain fitness level when you've dropped it. This is why the extended stay at home is damaging. Especially in light of Barcelona's already existing fitness issues and Messi's clear and premature decrease in speed (I would say, as a direct result of the piss poor training), this could massively decrease Messi's ceiling of fitness coming back from an extended break at his age. However, he is still only 32 and his footspeed has not noticeably slowed. This is important to distingish because this means that his pace issue is that he is producing less power with each step, not that the speed of his legs has slowed. This is also pretty notable in the shots he takes. They have noticeably reduced power than previous years. This gives me hope because power is something he can build and regain much more easily that the quickness of one's feet.

Very good topic discussed, I actually thought the same on the messi resting case, it was always one thing I considered once la liga was suspended but then people like spreading panic about the situation and go all about Messis career will finish this or that, more like a break for me. Johan Cruff stadium has a nice feel to it but the camera view won't be dat nice watching my favourite team, just like watching the Ibiza match although with better lightning, I don't completely agree with it

In terms of individual ability Messi's career is not being wasted,but in terms of team's achievements and winning all those big trophies like UCL his career is being wasted,My only wish now is that he wins UCL once or twice and an international trophy before retiring or maybe before his peak is over and for these things to happen both barca and argentina need to play with clear and effective system

I agree that Messi is actually in a great physical state and the goat could always find his way of contributing. Do you think it's possible for Messi to transform into an attacking midfielder as he ages?

I think this pause really is helping to extend Messi’s career, however I also think it is wasting away his best years. If the pause had only been a few weeks or like a month and a half that would have done him well. However, once you get into several months off or even possibly close to year, at his age, he’s ticking clock for prime performance is withering down. The timer for the end of his career might be getting pushed back, but the timer on someone’s prime doesn’t change.

I completely agree. if we switch stadiums it will help Barca massively and maybe we can start renovations like Madrid. I also agree that Messi's career is on pause. he was basically carrying the team and obviously needed a break and now, with the break, Messi would probably play for longer.

Messi will be fine. Yes, he is aging but over the years he has adapted his game to fit different formation and he has evolved. I think that Messi still has 3 to 4 yrs left but I see him playing as #10 as he age. I can't say that about other players

Valverde wasn't all bad for Messi. I personally saw an increase in Messi's free-kick goals, his playmaking role improve. It has helped show how good he is, adapting under an anti-football climate of facilitated by Valverde.

Time is definitely not their side Jamie, whether they're playing or not their bodies are ageing as time passes and since they're heading for their mid 30's we can be certain that the end of their careers has been brought forward on the pitch, i.e. the next time they play despite having rested they'll be that much older and that much closer to the end of their time in professional football.

Talking about the tranfers, instead of spending millions which we don't have at the moment anyway why don't we give coutinho another chance and play with a 4-2-1-3 formation. Ter Stagen, Pique, Umtiti/Lenglet, Alba, Samedo, Busquets/Arthur, De jong, Coutinho(AMF), Messi(RW), Griezmann(CF), Dembele/Fati/B'waite(LW). They can play for a couple of season and we will be able to save enough money to sign someone as Messi replacement. Also we can strengthen_ some of our weakness in other areas and built a good squad for future. If we do something like this, after 4-5 years we will be able to compete for the biggest competitions.
