Even In the past with Hashi vs Madara with full nine tails. At no point was he ever trying to tank any of those. And he could only surround himself in his wood style for the smaller ones. The bigger ones from kurama even made Hashirama afraid. Which is why he had to quickly subdue the nine tails. Only difference is that vs Madara, Hashirama could actually subdue him because he was outside of a body.. now he is inside of Naruto's body and more focused. That's with Naruto's peak power. If we are just talking about the Naruto version fighting juubito, pretty sure full power hashirama would be on par with Naruto while not splitting his Chakra among clones.

It was 100% for the plot so they have sthg to mumble about.
