I feel like the Twilight Realm existed a long, loooong time before the beginning of the game’s plot. So it would make sense that, even though the mirror was shattered in one timeline, it could still exist in others. In other timelines, Ganon wouldn’t be banished to the Twilight Realm, wouldn’t try to take over with Zant, and Midna wouldn’t need to shatter it. Despite the mirror not being in any other games, there could very well be other means to gain access to the Realm somewhere in the other timelines, mirror or not.

i think that the zonai might be decendants of the twili, as the green zonai-spirit-magic sort of energy have the same color as some of the twili and parts of the palace of twilight.

Maybe all the similar mirrors where attempts to make a new mirror of twilight 🤔

The only issue with the dark world being the twilight realm is that the game and other sources states that the dark world is a twisted sacred realm

I'll be honest here, I don't even care what the sequel is about if the devs somehow work any of the Twilight Realm, Lorule, Koholint, Termina, Labrynna, Holodrum, Subrosia, Wayway, Hytopia, or even Calatia, Koridai, or Arcadia, into the games as physical locations or separate maps. I want more Zelda lore than "Hyrule exists, oh no [insert dark force], we must defeat." There has to be more to their world than just Hyrule.

I'm glad you noticed how similar the "Twilight world" and "Dark World", there were even more similarities as well; the fact both are an apparent 'copy' of the real Hyrule, both the Links from ALTTP and TP had an alternate animal form when entering this world (Rabbit and Wolf) respectively and both of these games feature someone other than Ganon being built up as the final boss trying to unleash the hidden world only to have Ganon emerge as the actual final boss, both games also even had a dramatic climb up the main spire of Hyrule castle which is surprisingly not the most common thing in Zelda games that have Hyrule castle...

They also forgot to mention that Zelda, during the Champions Crowning memory, directly references the Twilight BY NAME. As such, new theory; A Twili becomes a companion to Link in BOTW 2 after finding a rune that lets him teleport there if he’s in front of special black rocks. The Twili adds Magic to links arsenal like it was supposed to be in Twilight Princess and allows him some magic. They use both the Triforce and the Fused Shadow’s Magic to defeat Ganondorf once he reincarnates.

You know there was a good comparison between the dark world from A Link to the past, and the twilight realm from twilight princess. Twilight realm and the dark world is like a prison. In twilight princess anyone who belongs to the light world turns into imprisoned souls, but Link turns into a wolf instead. In a Link to the past anyone who belongs to the light world turns into monsters, but Link turns into a pink rabbit instead.

What if the twilight realm is a dilapidated version of sky loft? Just thinking about how every location, including the one you can explore, is floating. That could just be to give it a nether worldly or void like vibe to it, but what if it is a segmented sky loft? Just a thought

The magic mirror in A Link to the Past DOES NOT transfer Link from the Light World to the Dark World, only from the Dark World to the Light World.

The mirror in a link to the past takes you to ganon's dark, warped version of the sacred realm. The game tells you that, that is what the dark world really is.

Maybe this new world is something like the twilight relam?

If the mirror has existed since before the events of OoT then it should exist in all three timelines. If Breath of the Wild is merging the timelines together, then that means that a version of the mirror not destroyed by Midna could exist somewhere.

The mirror in Lurelin village is most likely the dark mirror since they're descendants of the zonai that inhabited the faron region, where the mirror was hidden in the forest temple

Maybe, because the new legend of Zelda gameplay shows how the new hand works, allows you to go through things, and is in a greenish color similar to the spirits in twilight princess. This could resemble one of the artifacts keeping ganondorf in place by when link killed him, trapping him again in the twilight realm, and when the hand was released like it was in the trailer, it shows him escaping again. So that hand could probably be one of the keys too getting back to the twilight realm

I like your guys stuff, but you missed something big. The dark world is the sacred realm tooken over by Gannon once he got the triforce in the sacred realm. The interlopers were banished to the twilight realm so they couldn't get to the triforce.

It’s mine to, The story and vibe of the game is something else I just love it . I remember playing it when I was 10 and playing the game and getting stuck and stuck Again and again, tbh scared me a lot mainly the one cutscene when after you complete the water temple you get attacked by Zant which frightened me 😂, and then seeing the dark links. Recently replayed the game in lockdown and it’s still decently creepy 😂👍🏽

In ALttP, the Dark World is just a corrupted Sacred Realm where Ganon was sealed. The Twilight Realm is not the Sacred Realm. So the mirror in ALttP would have no connection with the Twilight Realm unless of course all of the mirrors just generally have the ability to transport between any realm and not specifically to and from the Twilight Realm/Dark World. Also, any timeline other than the child timeline could/should still have the official Mirror of Twilight since the mirror was created before OoT and would exist in every timeline, so the Twilight Realm could reappear in another game set in a separate timeline

my random thing I thought of as an easter egg, maybe in BotW2 there is a secret mini dungeon which had a few familiar faces such as the twilight monsters ect, once at the end of the dungeon a cutscene would play, it would show Link walking up to the Fused Shadow, then when Link got close enough the Fused Shadows would be sucked into a twilight portal and you could hear Midna's laugh. *Keep in mind this is a random thought I had and it MOST likely is NOT in the actual game!*

I always took the 'see you later' as her way of saying goodbye because unlike 'goodbye' which is a finality, 'see you later' is less sad, it implies you aren't seeing this person for the last time. So after her adventure with link it was too sad to say good bye for good so it was just a 'see you later'

Okay if they don't return in the future I'm going to be legit mad, I'm so hyped, I loved Midna so much 😭 But as some stated, the end, even if it hurt me so much as a child, was perfect. It put an end to that part of the story.

I’m a streamer who decided to beat all the Zelda games on stream. My favorite timeline is the one that Majora, Twilight and Four Swords fall under. I really hope that in the new sequel they do tie up some loose ends. Especially with twili. Thank you for this video.

Twilight Princess is not my favorite Zelda game of all time, but it does have one of my favorite characters in it, Midna. The ending still hits me in the feels like only something from a Zelda game could. I don't own a Switch so I haven't played BotW but I'm always going to be invested in LoZ, the lore and the setting and its characters. If the Twilight Realm ever makes another appearance in future games, as I've always wished for, I can only hope Nintendo does it justice in relevance to the plot and also allows us to explore it beyond just the palace we saw in TP. Interesting video! Speculation is always fun :)

Something else to point out is that all of the Ancient Sheika Technology has either light blue or fiery orange markings, which are very similar to Twili markings. I know it's a small detail, but it still counts.

To back up the end of the theory, regarding the Zonai, maybe someone should look more into those Typhlo Ruins? Y’know, the city-like Zonai ruins plunged in eternal darkness?

Bringing back the dark world for a future game would be a lot of fun, probably not in exactly the same way as Link to the Past and Twilight Princess, but with a new spin on it. I’m not exactly sure what that spin would be, might be a fun thing to talk about. Regardless of gameplay, I’d really just like to know more about the history of the dark world. I love the theory that the dark world exists in all timelines just under a different name, so I wanna know what happened to make each version so different. It’s just a really cool place to explore and flesh out with lore.

Just a thought, what if the floating islands of the twilight realm are above a cloud barrier, just like in skyward sword? The surface could actually look more like a dark, mirrored version of hyrule, like the dark world! Or it could be very different, which would be just as interesting! In twilight princess there are still islands floating in the sky, so the idea of a forgotten or unexplored surface world in the twilight realm doesnt seem so far fetched to me. It could be that the twilight depths go on forever, but thats also what the people in skyward sword were led to believe… (coincidence? I think NOT!) I think its also interesting how the game with the shadow realm of floating islands is also the game that introduces us to an ancient, forgotten race of sky people above hyrule. So if theres a surface underneath a twilight cloud barrier, the next question would be, why did the goddesses put it there??? Is there maybe also a connection to the demon tribe mentioned in skyward sword? Where there people living on the sky islands before the interlopers were banned and became the twili? Were they separated from the surface to be protected from the dangers below, or were they separated to keep the surface safe from them? And do the twili know about the surface, or are they unaware of it? Idk but i think there could be a lot to explore!

So I haven't yet watched the full video, got about halfway through then another little theory popped into my head. At 5:39 we can see the lower left quarter of the mirror, and in Breath of the Wild, there is a shattered monument that looks almost identical this mirror shown in the video. What if, the remains of the mirror have somehow survived the huge timespan and multiple great calamities (at least two, one 10,000 years before Breath of the Wild, and one more 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild) and has found its way now to the beachfront in Breath of the Wild's Lurelin Village instead of in the ruins of the Arbiter's Grounds in the Gerudo Desert. The remains of the mirror like object on Palmorae Beach looks a lot like the mirror show in the video, but seemed to serve an unknown purpose other than having text written around all four fragments of the object's pieces supposedly translating to directions on how to reveal a shrine. Now there may be some evidence against this theory in that I don't see any other pieces of the mirror shown in the video at 5:39 unlike in Breath of the Wild where we can find the remaining 3 fragments of the lookalike object. I believe that while in reality it's more than likely just a reference to Twilight Princess by the devs similar to how Darmani from Majora's Mask is carved into the mountains by Goron City, but from a lore perspective I believe it is possible for the shattered mirror like object on Palmorae Beach by Lurelin Village is possibly the Mirror of Twilight from an age that has long since passed

OMG imagine in some new Zelda game Link travels to the Twilight realm and meets with Midna. Midna could say something like "Oho, so your the new Hero this time. he he he" or something like that

My theory is that the Shadow Realm, Mirror Realm, Twilight Realm and Lowrule are all the same dark reflection of Hyrule. Traveling between the worlds is not normally possible and is never easy, but sometimes someone (usually a dark wizard) will discover a way to make a portal to this other dark world. Using things like The mirror of Twilight, Moon Pearls, the Magic Mirror, Cracks between worlds, the Dark Mirror and other magical means to travel back and forth. Connecting the two worlds usually causes all kinds of problems to both worlds. Be it monsters, earthquakes, or people disappearing from one world and ending up lost in the other.

The symbols on that monument also resemble the color the doors & holographic platforms glow in the Twilight Realm.

13:47 Isn't there an NPC in A Link to the Past who specifically states that the Dark World was once the Sacred Realm and that Ganon's Wish on the Triforce transformed the Sacred Realm into the Dark World. It was the NPC who supposedly watched over the Triforce.

I always liked the Twilight Realm better than Hyrule. I love Twilight, and the completely different feeling you get being in that realm. I wish they could have made more areas to explore there.

Twilight Princess is also my favorite game and I hope to see this return or to see or hear if Link found away back to Midna

The obvious answer to me is other timelines. The timeline specifically shows the "Banishment of the Twili" as the first noted incident after Skyward Sword, meaning it's before the timeline split. That means in the Adult Timeline and Defeated Timeline, the mirror is potentially intact up until the "that's not how timelines work" moment that is Breath of the Wild's place on the "timeline". Since the temporal spirit train wreck shows evidence of all three timelines leaving behind artifacts, it's entirely plausible that between the shattered one from the Child Timeline and the two mirrors of unknown status of the other two timelines, the mirror could be in some state of limbo that a plot device could restore it fully from. Of course, there's also the origin of the mirror being the same three entities we know were active in the Adult Timeline to spray Hyrule with Flex Seal and then flood it. They could always just, you know, re-create it. "It's been 100,000 years, we can let the Twili out on good behavior as long as they promise not to create any more eldritch abomination helmets or try identity theft again on the Hero of Twilight or his girlfriend."

I have an idea bouncing around I'm my head that the Twilight Realm isn't quite an alternate Dark World or Lorule. It is instead a "border world" of sorts between the realms of light and dark, somewhat akin to Xen in the Half-Life series, complete with floating islands. This is hinted at largely by the word "twilight", which is the light seen between full night and sunset/sunrise, the times between night and day. The Twili themselves have a theme of duality to them, being neither of the light or of the dark, but can clearly be influenced by both. This is most easily shown in their appearance, with their skin/clothing appearing as swirls of black and white.

it's a mirror dimension - quite literally (you even enter through a mirror)... Like real mirrors, you lift your right hand, your reflection lifts its right hand... think about what that could mean ;) (also Midna is their "zelda")

It would be nice to see Twilight stuff again, and it’s cool to see all these little evidences compiled in this video, but I feel like that final scene of Twilight Princess had just one job: to close the book on the matter. The Zelda series is indefinitely ongoing and it has a variety of fantastical elements that could plot-device the Twilight Realm right back into relevance (like the Triforce itself as another user pointed out) anytime the writers wanted them, but I think it’s very intentional that they closed the door on Twilight the way they did. There is merit to stories and characters having a beginning, middle and end, and it’s exhausting to keep extending an arc when the original inspiration has run dry. Zelda already has an example of what happens when this course isn’t allowed to happen in the form of its own main villain, Ganon. We know he’s always going to be around but, if you’ll notice, he’s received hardly any meaningful development since The Wind Waker was over. Zelda has often shifted focus to middleman villains like Zant, where also many pointed out that all Ganon did in Twilight Princess was twirl his proverbial mustache before he died, while also worthy of note is that Skyward Sword and BOTW both carefully avoided the issue, one by giving Ganon a creator (who himself is mostly obscured behind Ghirahim’s stage presence) and the other by making him mute and mindless. They’re trying to avoid being forced to write his character as much as possible but the series will always be intrinsically tied to him, and it shows as BOTW2 is on the way and is presumably about the real Ganon this time. I have no doubt they don’t want more than one literary pickle like that. They have every power to bring whatever they want but that scene meant in this case they don’t want to. They locked the door and threw away the key on Twilight; a decision I think might have been the right one.

I have one problem with the dark world from Link to the Past being the Twilight Realm; that being that in the game the dark world is explained as the corrupted form of the Sacred Realm (by Ganon's influence), and at the end of the game it is restored to its pure form with a quick shot of this being shown in the end credit crawl. And if I remember correctly, the Twilight and Sacred Realms are two different worlds.

Throughout Twilight Princess, Zant was able to travel between Hyrule and the Twilight Realm without the use of the mirror. Midna also revealed that she was able to do this. After Zant attempts to kill her, she tells Link that she can no longer travel to the Twilight Realm without Zant's power. This is the entire reason why they sought the mirror in the first place. Thus, it's reasonable to believe that travel between realms is not only still possible but possible without the need for an artifact. Zant's powers in Twilight Princess were previously unknown to the dwellers of the Twilight, so it's very likely that his ability to travel between realms freely was only possible due to the immense power of the Triforce of Power that Ganondorf had housed within him. However, the Triforce of Power and the complete Triforce itself have their ways of reappearing when it's most convenient for Nintendo's development schedule, so it's possible that this power can be used again to create another connection between the realms in the future. It's also possible that there's still a connection between the realms - either a physical object or an ability to teleport - that does not include the Triforce or the Mirror Of Twilight. When the light spirits banished the interlopers to what would become known as the Twilight Realm, they also fragmented the embodiment of their dark magic - The Fused Shadow - into four pieces. Three of these pieces were sealed away in the depths of dungeons spread throughout Hyrule, but one of these pieces somehow ended up within the Twilight Realm; Midna would later come to wear it as a helmet after being transformed by Zant. While it is possible that this fragment was always left in the Twilight and passed down over time, it's also quite likely that the light spirits wouldn't have wanted any of the Fused Shadow to be left there and had the fourth piece sealed away as well, only to have it stolen at some point later on. If the latter is the case, then there would be past instances of travel between Hyrule and the Twilight Realm, which would further increase the likelihood of the two worlds crossing once again.

Something i have noticed is if your favourite zelda game was ocarina of time before 2017 the now your favourite zelda game might just be breath of the wild now but if your favourite zelda game is something else (e.g twilight princess) then it it likely that it is still your favourite zelda game but not always

I've seen this loosely mentioned but I want to see where the train of thought may lead: OoT: Rauru exists in the Sacred Realm and says Ganondorf's heart/desire has corrupted it, leaving only the Chamber of Sages safe. ALttP: The Dark World is stated to have been corrupted by Ganon's attaining the Triforce and being imprisoned. Both ALBW and TP have world's that are stated to be "different sides of the same coin" in earnest, different shades of the same world. The time of which the events of the Interlopers is not specified, but we do know that Ganondorf's banishment through the mirror leads to a similar corruption of the Twilight Realm as to the Dark World and the Sacred Realm prior. So I have two thoughts. The first is that if Rauru could exist in the Sacred Realm along with the Sages, who are not described as immortal, then why couldn't there be other races/societies existing in the Sacred Realm at all points in the Timelines? Even the idea that the Sages are dead when awakened in OoT still leaves the question of why there are always new or alternate Sages existing to replace the old ones, who usually cease to exist as normal beings in Hyrule. The second thought is that, as far as I can think of, no single Zelda game has ever allowed there to be more than one alternative accessible world, so wouldn't it make sense for all of these alternate worlds to be different states of the Sacred Realm? Access is almost always only granted to those "blessed by the gods" and tied to the Triforce (the Twilight Realm may not stated to havve a strong connnection to The Triforce, but there is the Triforce central to the mirror), and it is often easily warped by magic, especially that associated with the Triforce. But now I'm thinking, why is the Sacred Realm usually left to be corrupted by Ganon/Ganondorf? If his piece of the Triforce and his desires are enough to ruin it in OoT and seep out into the temples, why is it that neither Link nor Zelda create one that is a purified paradise of sorts? Maybe too much thinking lol

One question: If the Mirror was broken years before Zant and Midna got into Hyrule, but at least Midna needed it to return to her home country, how they did it? And how Zant was able to return to Twili even when the Mirror was not yet reconstructed? Was it in the power of Ganondorf perhaps? But why would he do it for Midna? To torture her by the light (at the same time Zant was covering Hyrule with twilight)?

One thing that could support the existence of multiple portals is that there's every chance the Twili likely would only know of the one. The Interlopers were banished by the golden goddesses to the Twilight Realm and intended to never return. If they knew multiple ways in and out of the Twilight Realm existed that would increase the chances of them escaping. So the goddesses, in full control over the information about the Twilight Realm, could have easily lied and said there is only one. The Twili, decedents of the Interlopers, would only have their information to go on and thus believe that the mirror in the Arbiters Grounds is the only entrance.

Simple solution: Timeshift stone brought to arbiters grounds = fixed mirror of Twilight.

A potential long shot here, but I like to think the green hand we see in BOTW 2 trailer that is holding Ganondorf's skeleton is of a Twili, Midna to be specific. If the Twili are indeed to return in future games, this would be a really good nod to Twilight Princess.

What if in *Breath of the wild 2* there's a quest where we can extract Twilight power from a Twilight relic to go back into the Twilight realm? Or another quest in *Breath of the wild 2* where you find all the shards of the Mirror of Twilight, (or most of it) and rebuild the Mirror (or most of it) to be able to go to the Twilight realm as long as you want? (or for a temporary amount of time.)

It make sense that there are other entrance or exits to or from the Twilight realm. In Twilight Princess we have to put the Mirror of Twilight back together to get to the Twilight realm but knowbody brings up the fact that the Twilight infected the world of light. That means there was another way for the Twilight to access the world of light.

I have this weird theory that the Sheikah are somehow connected to the tribe and that's why those in the Twilight Realm have magic. The Palace of Twilight has a similar feel and look to other structures (Tower of Gods, BotW shrines, etc), so I wouldn't be surprised. I also believe the Lord of the Mountain is from the Realm, due to his strange markings and how odd his faces look, but that's more of a playful theory lol.

One thing I just glanced at in the Zelda Encyclopedia is that the Dark World in Link to the Past is the sacred realm tranformed after Ganon got the Triforce. The Twilight Realm is not the Dark World. The light spirits went into the sacred realm, got the dark interlopers out, and banished them to the twilight realm. Not sealed into the sacred realm which was transformed into the twilight realm. The twilight realm was a different place.

My own personal headcanon regarding the timeline placement of breath of the Wild as being at the end of all three timelines which it is is that what if the Calamity that takes place ten thousand years ago where the sheikah tribe had to build the Divine beasts and the Guardians 2 combat the Calamity Ganon was because of a merger between all three timelines cataclysm that brought in the worlds from Wind Waker Twilight Princess and the original Legend of Zelda games, including Link to the Past Link's Awakening and the various Game Boy games, caused by demise trying to pull himself back together. As the timeline split not only caused the different realities, but also split Demise's soul amongst them , weakening him. While the man Ganondorf himself found himself in the Wind Waker timeline, his human side without the influence of demise regretted his actions and allowed the Wind Waker to deliver the final blow, if you remember he almost looked content with the outcome like he wanted it. And then with split between the the Twilight Princess timeline and the link to the past timeline like where the spirit of demise was split. Imagine if you will but the death of Ganondorf at the Wind Wakers hands, somehow strengthened the other two pieces of Ganon, allowing him to try to pull his divided self back together but in doing so cause they merge between the three timelines, pulling all the locations people and places together into one reality this merge would be pretty chaotic and some landmarks would probably get pushed around to try to locate himself into this new reality. And what if in order save the world the gods themselves came into play to reorder it but could not stop demise and so gave the sheikah the knowledge and power they needed to build the Divine beasts and Guardians in order to seal away once again denies now known as the Calamity Ganon...... That's just my little headcanon though I'm kind of hoping that breath of the wild two will shed a little bit more light and have it confirmed timeline placement in a reason as to why locations from all the timelines show up in one world. But for now my idea works for me. And with the Calamity taking place 10,000 years before the start a breath of the Wild nobody would ever know the truth of what really happened inside their own world.

I had an Idea for a Sequel to Twilight Princess. However it takes place Sooner than any of them would Expect.

I got a theory, even though the mirror was destroyed, the chamber in which it was housed wasn't. If the Arbiter's Grounds we see in BOTW is in fact the same one from Twilight Princess, (albeit in ruins and covered in sand) then the chamber, or at least what's left of it, could potentially still be there.

Unless there's been a retcon, The Dark World isn't the Twilight realm it's the sacred realm shaped by Ganon's power/wishes. It's possible that if you could leave the Chamber of Sages in OoT you might see areas that look similar to areas of the Dark World in LttP. Also it might be possible that the interlopers were sealed away before the timeline split which means they could make a game in one or both other timelines. If the theory that BotW takes place after the 3 timelines became one again; then maybe what caused them to rejoin was a major event that happened in all 3, say a magical object like the twilight mirror being destroyed.

The twilight realm may be coming back in Echoes of wisdom, specially due to the similarities between the twilight realm's floating islands, and the floating islands shown in the rifts of echoes of wisdom.

The problem with the Twilight Realm being the Dark World is that the Dark World is actually a corruption of the Sacred Realm, which was transformed when Ganon obtained the completed Triforce. The Sacred Realm is where the goddesses created the world from and is essentially a holy land. Using a holy land as a prison doesn't really seem like the kind of thing the goddesses would do; while the Sacred Realm HAS been used as a prison in the past, as Ganon in A Link to the Past was sentenced there, this was done as a preventative measure to keep the King of Evil and his minions from swarming across the kingdom, and was not actually done by the goddesses but rather was a command from the King of Hyrule.

I know it would be the most boring way, but, there is a really easy way of making the Twilight Realms (that I really don't think is also the Dark Realms but I understand the logic) return. Remember the Triforce? If the weilder is a curious Zelda who red about it in some old book talking about the Twilight Realms and wished for a new way to travel there or at least asked for how to create a new mirror. Maybe that's why we see Zelda and Link finding Ganondorf in the Trailer. Maybe she needed some of its essence to get to the Twilight Realms
