For once i was right. This fight was indeed the best fight from the episode. Poor Deathroll, such a bad luck for them to get stuck like that. Knowing the damage Gigabyte sustained, I'm sure Deathroll can beat them if they survive or can self right

A side piece that protects Death Roll's weapon hub was ripped off by Gigabyte so it made self-righting harder. I think the weapon of Death Roll died too. Even without the flipper there, Death Roll was in a very bad spot.

@@Dysphoros Good point, I didn't really appreciate that half of deathroll's head was ripped off. A minute and a half left with their primary weapon gone, it would have been a gritty fight to continue with Gigabyte who seemed to be spinning just fine. I believe most teams consider the self-righting mechanism as an afterthought but your bot is not always going to be flat on the floor with space all around it.

That instance was actually extremely abnormal and not the result of a design mistake. A chinese company just thought, or *alledgedly* earnestly believed that melting high grade aluminum and casting it would result in having high grade aluminum and refuted the idea that the bad part was their fault. And good luck suing a company in china if you're not chinese.

This actually was the end for Gigabyte. I believe the team said on reddit that they used their last undamaged pole mount in this fight and Death Roll broke it. Thats why it shatters apart in thr Free Shipping fight.

@@gtcreations7666 Won by all KOs though, which means it was deserved in a way. Plus, Gary has won multiple trophies in other competitions over the years, using effectively the same robot just without a weapon on it. Don't underestimate how much experience counts for, especially in a competition like Champions with limited repair windows, he's used to maintaining his bots in events where you are only guaranteed about half an hour to get ready between matches (though often get longer in earlier stages.)

I was really hoping we would get to see a Deathroll (AUS) v Endgame (NZ) rematch at some point, this squashed that hope. Bit sad the two teams live in neighbouring countries, travel ages to get to America and then still not get to fight.

In the last encounter DeathRoll beat EndGame due to Endgames self righter failing like Deathrolls did in this fight. That fight was years ago now and Endgame have made massive refinements since then while DeathRoll has largely been in a crate. It would be an uphill battle, but one I want to see and one we get bragging rights over if we win lol (I'm Australian)

They did a good job of controlling gigabyte. In previous fights it seemed a lot of their damage was self inflicted by rushing into a hit and going flying everywhere. The held back on aggression, spun up and let death roll come to them. A risky strategy if the fight went to a judges decision, but it did pay off. If death roll hadn’t gotten stuck, who knows. But they did manage to control gigabyte better than I’ve seen before

I think that's a bit of a design choice. They want the weapons be a disturbance, they want the bots to be destroyed mainly by the adversary, not by the arena itself.

@@therealking6202 Robot Wars was a British show doing the same sort of thing as Battlebots, and ran between 1998-2004, and 2016-2017. Rather different in style of how it was presented and the arena, but for many fans of the sport outside of the US, it was what we started with, and one of the arena hazards in it was a literal "floor flipper", a panel of the floor which would pop up to hurl robots around.

This fight was wild. As an Aussie I'm disappointed by the result but definitely not disappointed by the fight. Felt pretty bad seeing what happened after the fight though, it was like watching the winning fighter dying of its wounds after the fight had already ended. What is that wall thing meant to actually do in the arena?

The elevated section? It's called the 'upper deck'; if you're on top of it, you have to get back off within 20 seconds or you lose the fight. It's meant to replace out-of-the-arena flips as those areas are now blocked off for safety reasons. In practice, it's widely derided by builders and fans alike and just ends up nerfing full-body-spinners like Gigabyte who hit the wall or get stuck in the two upper corners of the ring.

I meant the flipper sticking out of the wall that DeathRoll just got stuck behind. its just kind of a sticking hazard. edit:: But yeah the upper deck is also terrible. I'm yet to be convinced that the best arena isnt just a simple empty box or maybe a cylinder/circle so there are no corners

To be fair, the second time, Free Shipping really didn't have to do much. Gigabyte was out of their mast assemblies and had to hope, to not get flipped. And of course, first thing that happend in that match? They get flipped and unsupported and damaged selfrighter breaks. If they had one more undamaged, they likely could continue the fight much longer.

Massive improvement by Derek Tran and RDC in this bracket, I still expected Death Roll to dominate and make this a repeat of Gigabyte's prior clashes with verts. It certainly looked that way from the start but once Gigabyte had a couple good spin-up opportunities the Aussies stood no chance. Still a Pyrrhic victory with the battery fire afterward but very happy to see a full-body spinner remain at least somewhat relevant in a meta that's very stacked against them.

Big props to Gigabyte for taking all those hits and still running, in exchanges where they were up to speed they fared quite favorably but it's so easy to slow Gigabyte down, you just have to get them into any wall (and their spin up time is just too long) that said they got pretty lucky here, Deathroll probably would of had it if the fight had continued.

I think one solution to make Full body spinners like Gigabyte be a bit more effective and avoid flying across the box is to use magnets like Claw Viper uses. A bunch on the bottom would make them stick to the floor more and so at least those smaller exchanges they wouldn't jump around. This would also improve traction, if they used powerful enough motors, again, like Claw Viper uses.

If you see Claw Viper's fights in the last Championship, he improved on his speed massively because he understood the amount of magnets to have a good grip on the floor without being too much. That's why he's crazy fast, because he can put all the power down on the wheels and stay stable. There is even a fight where he gets beaten hard and you can see the magnets under the bot, seven of them of them, star shaped. Also other teams started using magnets on the forks to have them stay down during clashes. Sawblaze and Scorpios use them.

As far as clickbaity titles go, this one was alright? Gigabyte was really having some issues in previous seasons (the shelf doesn't help horizontals and especially full body spinners either) and they've kinda been demoted as the B-team by Robotic Death Company putting most of their focus into Cobalt. Deathroll is one of the hardest hitting verts out there and could have reasonably retired it by just stomping it so hard the team gives up on it. They needed a win to still show this robot has potential and although a bit of luck was needed, this match has shown that Gigabyte still has some things going for it.

Free Shipping would've been toast. While Free Shipping may be lower, Deathroll's reach is no joke and Free Shipping has A LOT of areas that can get snagged easily by any vert.

We don't know how long it would've taken for them to catch fire if the fight had continued. Like I said, Gigabyte was fully spun up, not on fire, and ready to pounce. They still had another big hit left in them.

I don't know why GB doesn't try harder to get to center of the arena. They do much better there. Corners and edges are usually bad for horizontal weapons because if knocked around they don't have margin to spin up in. In center you have more directions to escape to in order to buy time to spin back up. Have Jan Brady drive next time: Center Center Center! Glad to see them win regardless.

gigabyte looks better than it has in a very long time with this new crew. Gigabyte was a monster 15 years ago. New batlebots tho it just gets wrecked every season. Outdated design i think. Same reason they had to retire Son of Whyachi. Everyone figured out you just throw a massive wedge on the front and drive into it till it breaks itself.
