Interesting id like to see another one with De Bruyne to be honest because he’s said he is staying. Bernardo also looks like he is staying - his release clause has expired. I think it might actually be quite a quiet summer for City. Savio in , A Rodri cover (I think you might be onto something with Kimmich and potentially another attacking midfielder or right winger. I think if it’s Kimmich the inversion may come from right back and Ake tucks in. Love the video mate

I actually think this is a quiet, easy summer for City, where everyone comes back for a sort of "last dance" type of season. The one exception might be Walker (who I doubt will be super involved next year, which typically means he throws a bitch fit and Pep will show him the door) since I expect more traditional touchline wingers and inverting fullbacks/wingbacks after Ten Hag exposed the flaws in his late season tactical setup. I'd be shocked if Rico Lewis wasn't more involved next year...I think his involvement level will be similar to Alvarez's usage this season. Consistent starts against teams 8-20 in the league, rare starts when tactically sensible against top 5-6 teams. I'll say he stays and plays a lot in the Kimmich role (doubt he ends up at City) with a rotation of Kovacic and a return to the 23 tactic with Stones/Akanji stepping into midfield. I'd also wager that Gvardiol gets more time alongside Ake (who would play LCB) with him pushing high and maybe Rodri dropping between the centre halves to create a sort of 3-1-6 or 3-2-5 shape with Gvardiol-Ake-Dias as a back three, Rodri as a theoretical single pivot with Lewis/Kovacic often dropping deep or inverting into a double pivot, and Doku-Foden-Haaland-KDB-Bernardo as the front five. Of course, Alvarez will feature as both a deeper lying forward and a "free 8/10", Savio will play mainly off the right (especially if Bernardo is in midfield next to Rodri), Walker can come in as an overlapping right back for Lewis, Stones and Akanji will rotate in (although if Stones also moved on I wouldn't be shocked, especially as Gvardiol becomes a regular and Ake plays more centre half), and you have to imagine Bobb and maybe McAtee (who I personally don't rate, but there's a chance) come into the side on occasions as well. It's such a versatile squad, which gives off the impression that it's incredibly deep, when in reality there's only 17-18 players who get serious PT, and with a genius at the helm I have to begrudgingly accept that Liverpool's ceiling is probably second in the league and we'll realistically be third or fourth again while City dominate everyone.

A lot of nice ideas. But Kimmich is not a BWM (coming from a Bayern fan from Germany). He lost his midfield-role at Bayern because he couldn't be trusted to stay deep, as he always roamed forward from his DM position, conceiding a ton of counter attacks as a consequence. That led to Tuchel preferring Laimer as a true BWM with Goretzka or young Pavlovic in a DLP role as the double pivot, basically "relegating" Kimmich to play right back. As a midfielder, Kimmich is either a Regista or a Roaming Playmaker, he is way stronger in possession but can be a liability when out of possession. His lack of Positioning, Teamwork and Tackling aren't really well-represented in the game.

What's the difference between a Libero on defend and a Libero on support regarding the way they work in the match engine? I was very successful with an incredible Barcelona side in the mid-2030s that used this system: SK (S) IWB (S) L (S) L (S) IFB (D) CM (S)* CM (S)* W (S)** T (A) T (A) W(S)** It was a 4-2-4 which became a 1-2-7 in attack. How would my system have changed with Liberos on defend? Also I reckon you should try this tactic. See how it works. I cannot fully recall the player instructions but the general setup was a Vertical Tiki Taka, default. *The CM (S) both acted more as CM (A) in the system, with instructions similar to CM (A) rather than CM (S). **The W (S) were both told to cut inside from wide positions with the ball.

So you play with to wingers hugging the touchline while also having wide full backs? Pep would never use 2 players a side to keep the width.
