You may want to take a close look at the Piscifun Chaos XS. I’m pretty certain they are coming off the same assembly line. Same reel, different colors. That being said, I’ve got two chaos and am quite happy with them. At half the price of the lews.
I purchased six of these reels last march. I am very impressed. I abuse them with 10 oz sinkers and 80 lbs line. I fish a lot! The drag is more than you will ever use. So far i havent found the weak spots. Give me another twelve months and ill have a good evaluation.
@@andresjohnson2149 well ive had some issues with durability. Like i said i use these reels a lot. The part that goes into reel seat of rod gets loose. Rivets get loose.
I just got one of these in today for big swimbaits for bass fishing. I have looked and looked for info and videos about these but find hardly anything like you said. Out of the box it feels really nice for a hundred dollar reel. Excited to get it on the water and see how it performs.
Quinton, I have 4 of the Lews Speed Spool 600. I also upgraded from the Kastking Rover 40s and 60s. They cast like butter! I fish lakes in Texas so I don't throw the heavy weights like you do but I really like them. Very smooth. I hope they work for you as well as they do for me. I also bought 2 Penn Rival 50s. They have the big power handle and they seem much better suited for big fish. They don't cast as smooth or as far but like I said, they seem like they would pull in anything, any size. Love to see you review the Penn reel. They were priced about the same as the Kastking, where the Lews as you point out is more. I enjoy your videos, especially the reviews. Keep up the good work. Tight lines...
I use the SC600 also as a catfisherman. I dove in 6 deep just as you did. The ONLY con I have after this first year is the srews work loose of the housing rather quickly. I put a dab of silicone on them and it seems to work. I use them on my anchor rods as the castability is fantastic. I would have no problem dragging with them either. I just have another 6 on my drifting rods.
I baught 1 of these a few years ago. The first year it was awesome. Then it just slowly started breaking down. Definitely better reels out there rite at the $100 price range
What reels would you recommend in the $100 or under that you find better than these? I was going to try the picifun chaos X's but they only have the 40 size on Amazon and it won't ship until August same issue with kastking rover they only have the 40 size and won't ship until August. Cabela's near me didn't have any catmaxx reels in stock so I couldn't check those out. I can get a new diawa millionaire classic it'd but I can't find much info on them ughh. I'm all ears cuz I'd like to get something on this new rod relatively quick and I don't need a huge size reel but would like it to be able to hold a decent amount of twenty lb mono. I'm not sure if the 40 size will hold enough 20 lb or not since I cannot see one in person first. Cheers and tight lines.
I have a Lews bass real, that I purchased 30 years ago. Just took it out the other day and the reel performed flawlessly. It will be interesting to see how the new Lews do, and if they hold up. They look rounded like Abu Garcia reels.
I used to use an Abu Garcia man 100% I didn't buy a reel unless it was an Abu. Not anymore... their quality has drastically decreased in the last 20 years. But instead of finding some cheap, made in China baitcasters like kastking or Ming Yang, I swapped to spinning reels. I went with Penn Fierce 3 liveliners. I know they are made in China as well, but a spinning reel is much less complex than a baitcaster.
I have purchased 6 of these in the last week from Fish and Save. They gave me a 15% off coupon when I bought the first 2, so I ordered 4 more for 72.20 each. Great review.
For 100 dollars I would have went with a Penn Squall or Abu 6500, just my opinion. I havent had one fail me yet, even in saltwater. I'm really interested in seeing how those hold up.
I agree the marketing for these reels is almost non existent. I almost feel like Lew’s doesn’t want to even sell these reels. I found your video trying to get a solid answer on what max the drag is.
If you open up the sc600 you'll find there are a number of plastic gears inside. Also, although it has 6 centrifugal pins, only 2 can be turn on and off. The other 4 are permanently on. It's a very nice reel out of the box. Will it last for years? Only time will tell.
I’m not the biggest fan of the handles on these either I prefer the ones on the laser XL also made by Lew’s which is one of the best budget reels I’ve ever seen easily beating out the low grade Abu Garcia and beats out the mid grade and everything but casting Lew’s does make aftermarket grips that are a little bit bigger you just have to change out the grips to my knowledge I should work on your reels
I would have went with Abu Garcia 6500. I am interested to see how the Lews work out. I have some Abu’s that are 30yrs old and I just clean and lube every year and replace drag washers when needed.
Quinton I've never used a bait caster. I wanted to jump in and ask how Zander is doing. Pretty special kid in my book. He caught George the catfish. Tell him I'm hunting for Fred the Flathead. 😁 Hope your well buddy
I've fished the Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster reels for 3yrs just had them cleaned and serviced I fish in sandy area. I bought a Catmaxx setup for same you can't hear the bait clicker on Catmaxx. Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster baitclicker WILL bring you out of a sound sleep 😁 trust me on that. I've landed several 50lbs +flatheads and big blues on only in 3 yrs I changed the line a few times. I've seen the reel in the video. Fished the Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster 3yrs just had them cleaned and serviced. I'll be gettin ANOTHER Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster for $70 and I also found some interesting facts about the Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster reels. Can't repeat them but you boys just keep on buyin those Abu's and I'll just rebuild my Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster reels when needed PEACE OUT 🐝😎🐝
I NEVER fished the 600. But the 600 does cost more and I have had it in hand and thought about buying one. I like 6 or 7 Lews reels the 2 Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster and 5 light spinning setups for bass fishing and have had them longer and helped make the dissuion on buying the Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster. I can tell the reel you got is lighter than my Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster. 3 of the bait shops I go to are Lews dealers I drove 120 miles to get the 2 I got. I JUST put them back on their rods from beginning serviced I mean minutes ago 😁I was headed out but the Ohio river is up MAYBE NEXT week? BTW I've have nothing but good things to say about their customer service. They sent me stuff that wasn't even their fault. It was from my abuse I mean I didn't even do routine maintenance for 3 years other than change the line. The Catmaxx setup same money DOESN'T even come close. BUT I thought long and hard about the reel you got. I just like the metal feel of the Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster. For some reason Lews seems less interested in the Catfish market. I've spoken to the regional sales rep about Dieter Melhorn asked about a Lews pole to match up to my reels. I just got the impression that Catfishing wasn't a market they were into the Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster when came out was supposed to be the catfishermens alternative to the move expensive reels. Excuse the loooong message I tried to cover alot of information. PEACE OUT 🐝😎🐝
Just stumbled across the 600, the certainly don't go out of their way to market it, as you said.. I'm looking for a low ratio deep cranking and swimbait reel that isn't 2-300$. How do you think it will hold up as a cast and retrieve reel? Also, does rhe levelwind disengage when casting? Thanks!
Hey Quinton those look really nice but I’ve always been an open bail guy. Thinking about switching a rod or two to a bait caster but I don’t put a fraction of the miles on mine that you do. What were your reels that you just switched from?
Great informative video!!!!! I’m looking to get a good catfish reel. I dropped a like and a subscribe. Awsome channel that will improve mine I’m sure. Cheers
