They need a dman to play pp that can blast shots from the blue line, and hit the net. Reilly can’t hit the broad side of a barn door. They also need another rugged tough defensive sound dman. Benoit and Edmnudson would be a good third pair. I agree Tanev and Skei would be good. Or Montour and Tanev. Don’t think Montour will leave Fla. though.
Anaheim drafted well in the past on defence now all playing for other teams Josh Manson, Montour, Theodore, Lindholm and Fowler. Tvedovsky was also good but retired. If the leafs can get Montour or Theodore ? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Leaf's biggest gaping hole is middle six center, goalie and defense were not bad. So to spend Bert and Brodie's money on 2 d men, the Marner trade must include a top-six center. or top-3 d man.
A serious trade suggestion. Vegas is a reasonable possibility for a Marner trade. Theodore brings in a badly needed Dman, I don't love Thompson but whatever. Marner might actually waive to go there. If it were to happen, it definitely happens after July 1st. With Marner's bonus paid out he is only owed 775K in real money making it easy to get a team reaching for the salary cap basement to retain half his cap hit. I'm not entirely sure but could double retention with Marner going from the Leafs unretained to two other teams that both retain him and then to Vegas possible? That would remove the biggest hurtle, his massive salary. Sign and trade isn't necessary as both players are in their final years of their respective contracts. Theodore instantly becomes the Leafs's best Dman and their PP guy. He is going to need a new contract but i doubt he is looking for 100 million. Regardless of what he wants it balances out the money spent on forwards and defense. This is an interesting idea and could be an actual hockey trade. Would Theodore waive to his M-NMC/are the Leafs on his no trade list?

God I sure hope so! I’m not sure I can watch another season of Mitch Money sucking up cap space; I’ve never been able to cheer for him after he signed that brutal contract basically screwing the team.
I think DeMelo is an underrated option for the leafs. Should come in under $4M and is the perfect partner for Rielly. If you were able to add him, Theodore, and another big shutdown guy to play with Benoit the D core would be unreal. I am very weary of guys like Pesce, Montour, Tanev, Roy, Walker, Zadorov, and Skjei getting over paid. Would love any of them at the right price though.
Two D and give minten, Cowan and abruzezi (spelling ?) a shot, might be the only way to find out if you have one of those gems like Rodriguez we keep trading away.
and re-signing domi, bertuzzi, dewar, robertson, lilligren and gregor or replacing them leaves you with 2 yard sale d men and a yard sale goalie and crossing fingers. Marner and Tavares are both the best options at dumping salary to be able to build a 20 man hockey team instead of a the 5 man hockey team Du(m)bas built
