oh yeah Littleton!!! I've been there 3 different years whilst on vacation in New England... love the riverwalk bridge, the magnificent Main Street and the beautiful river! To me, Littleton is the perfect representation of a New England town
Room 101 I'm only a tourist/visitor; so admit I'm guilty of seeing only the nicer side of New England cities/towns traveled to .... the attractive landscapes, buying souvenirs I wouldn't find in San Diego, chatting with the locals at a U-pick orchard, falling in love with the covered bridges and waterfalls, etc. I guess I would have to live there to get the total picture of Littleton's (or any town's) problems.
Nice video. Thinking of making a move to the area and settling down, raising my family. I'm a Midwestern by Birth but lived all over the US and a few countries. I just fell in love with New England in general. Fond of the people as I fond then to be so "real" and friendly And you just can't beat the 4 seasons, Atlantic Ocean, Lakes and Mountains.
I also lived how the lady in the video admitted that she let's her kids go to Chutters and smuggle contraband candy into the movie theatre. I bet the owners of Jax Jr. looooved hearing that! xD
Born in Littleton in 1962 and lived there as a kid until we moved away when I was 10. The things I remember the most about this town: Colder than a witch's titty in the winter - partly because of the river and the humidity; closed minded - Paton Placed mentality of the locals and complete lack of opportunity for gainful employment. Maybe number 2 and 3 have changed, but not number 1. Also, as I recall, drugs, alcohol and promiscuity were a huge problem in the 60's and 70's. I can't imagine that has changed. I also recall that someone was always fooling around with someone else's spouse. Lot's of domestic abuse.
Wages are low, the drug problem gets worse every year, there are no apartments for anyone making any money because an outfit called " Ahead" has control of most of them and if you make too much money, they will not rent to you. When anyone puts their hand out to you, it's just another panhandler begging for money so they can get enough for their next fix or a rack of beer. Right, welcome to Littleton NH.
I rent from Porfido’s. Live in a new one bedroom on cottage street for 775 a month everything included. I make 650 a week at FedEx just down the street. Don’t lie about Littleton
Small town living isn't so great. I moved here in '97 for a better life for my son and it was the WORST mistake I've ever made. Don't let this sweet little video fool you. A kid I knew was just murdered, there is a HUGE drug problem that no one wanted to admit until people started being found dead in public bathrooms and there is NO help for addicts because people don't want to see that "bad" element here. The Littleton natives have no clue what the real world is like and the term "small town, small brain" comes to mind daily. Good customer service is very rare (although I do spend money in and sing the praises of businesses who DO treat their customers well, but are few and far between). If someone does you wrong there is never any recourse (because Live Free or Die, man!) and the police are so desperate for action that they LIVE to ruin people's lives. Sure, the town is great for YOUNG children, but as soon as they are teenagers LOOK OUT. So many lost young people here. It's so sad. I left Los Angeles for a better life...and since I've been here I've had more issues with neighbors, drugs, alcoholics, and police contact then I EVER had in L.A. And I'm a good, law abiding citizen! On the second day that we moved here, we were still moving furniture in, and a neighbor called the police on my mother because she was parked on the road (she had no idea she wasn't supposed to). Welcome to the neighborhood! Look, Littleton does have a lot of positive attributes, I'm not saying it doesn't, but if you're a city slicker looking for a break from the craziness of the city, REALLY check this place out before you move here. Think about if this level of ignorance is something you can handle. You may find that the city that you are living in now is MUCH more civilized. And this person's comment below me that is saying it's "very white" here, as if that's the best way to be, well that should give you a clue about what you'll be dealing with. The impression I had about this town when I first moved here? Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. I wish I had never moved here.
Sorry about your experience. Must have been culture shock when you moved here. There is a lot of potential in Littleton and some improvements have sprung up here and there. But If you have a mind of your own, people will look down at you in these parts. If you suppress yourself you'll have less problems. But I refuse to let someone's ignorance influence how I see myself or live my life. BTW, have you tried exploring Vermont? Much more intelligence and diversity (depending which town).
How many Littleton residents are laughing at this presentation? If you wear Carhartts, are glued to your cell phone and flash those ski sunglasses then you should have no problems here. However, if you are open and feel comfortable in your own skin than you might wish to live elsewhere (unless you're a saint). Plenty of drinks/drug of choices too. If you don't care about these things than move right in. Why think your own thoughts? We got just the right outfit for you. A beautiful mountain river corrupted by human silence (unless you party hard).
+maciverandy1 Of course it's a "strange comment." Anyone in these parts that speak out of the "north country norms" is thought of as strange. The natural beauty of the area is wonderful. But I find the mentality unacceptably void of intelligence or awareness.
I also love how the Solomon's and the Schilling's restaurant are highlighted here. This is the "power elite" here. Not good people and will look down their noses at you if you aren't of a certain class. Ha!
