Life finds a way…Jake (that’s me!) is enjoying a relaxing vacation at Jurassic Park when something goes terribly wrong and the dinosaurs escape their cages. With the prehistoric beasts running rampant, the race is on to get to the last boat off the island…and see if you could survive the awesome power of a T-Rex bite, being hunted by Pterosaurs and conversely, whether or not dinosaurs could actually survive in OUR world.

Of course you can think of it this way in the wild there is diverse eco system of animals that hunt each other living in harmony just to get one thing water so why would domesticated dino's whom depend on the humans at that point in its life ! just eat all its food without letting the next gen produce those dino will go for the young and slow just like insects in a terrarium?

Funny thing about the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park is they are similar to a Raptor species named Utahraptor. Ironically Utahraptor was discovered a couple of months before Jurassic Park’s debut in 1993. Crazy that in trying to make scarier Velociraptors, ILM basically predicted a species of dinosaur not yet discovered.

So from what I remembering reading, the book explains that the raptors are not the smaller more turkey-like velociraptor mongoliensis, but instead the deinonychus, which back when the book was written was also referred to as velociraptor antirrhopus. But both the author and Spielberg chose to use velociraptor because it sounds cooler than deinonychus. And yeah, the raptors in the movies still should be smaller snd have feathers.

The oxygen deprivation experiment simulated if you brought a dinosaur via a time machine to our present day and made it run. If they were born in our time, I would suspect that a similar thing that happens to humans that experience a decrease in oxygen would occur; that is, the body eventually adapts to the new conditions (primarily by increasing red blood cell count). This is why many athletes will train at high altitudes. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that life would, um, find a way.

7:54 that is not the replica of a T-rex skull, but rather a replica of an Acrocanthosaur skull, another large north-American carnivore. Edit: It is important to state this because Acrocanthosaurus had a jaw and tooth morphology designed to slice and tear flesh, not having the robust teeth and powerful jaws of a Tyrannosaur, which crushed and ate bone on a regular basis.

Yes indeed! Good eye. You'll be pleased to know, though, that we retrofitted Cathy with rex teeth and scaled the bite force up to tyrannosaur scale. The exact shape of the bite is not 100% precise for a tyrannosaur, but the overall effect should be roughly correct.

The one thing people always seem to forget when comparing scientific discoveries with Jurassic Park is that in JP they used DNA splicing to fill the gaps of missing sequences from modern day animals, which would more or less explain the JP dinosaurs' different looks from what they would've looked back in their time.

There actually were some Raptor species that did grow to be the size of the ones in jurassic park, if not bigger. Also, recent studies have put the feathered t rex into question. And it turns out that scaly skin is more reasonable for the same reason elephants dont have fur, t rex probably didnt need feathers cause it was plenty big enough and didnt live where it was cold all that much. so. yea.

@electro7435
@electro7435 2 года назад
The main reason it turned out like that was because of the poor usage of sources by Michael Crichton. He used the infamous Princeton Field Guide which are well known in the palaeontological community for not distinguishing dinosaurs and constantly 'grouping' animals. That is why the Velociraptor and Deinonychus were considered to be from the same species. The movies of course did not help with this by having our friend Alan Grant digging up Velociraptor in Montana.

actually, in the book he has doctor grant specifically call out that the raptors are too big. a youtuber known as klayton fioriti talks about it in detail here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ooaf_f1a8ZA.html Further, Crichton chose to "misname" the raptors as a way to further underline how the park was not fit to run as a park, and how it was doomed to fail. He also further wanted to mention the historical debate when deinonychus was classified as velociraptor antirrhopus (as you pointed out. nice catch! i actually came into the comments to share that same info!) Speilberg chose to omit the discussion and keep calling them velociraptor, as you said, because it sounded cooler. I wish they had kept the bit where grant talks about deinonychus' classification and such, it's a fun bit of paleontological drama that emphasizes how taxonomy and classification is often not a straightforward process.
@Blackdawn80

But thankfully for us all both Crichton and Spielberg chose to write a great book and excellent movie instead of worrying about a 100% accurate to science representation.

man, i used to be such a huge dinosaur nerd, me and my friend who was a bit of jurassic park fanatic, we both used to have these massive dinosaur encyclopedias with all these huge illustrations and whatnot, and we would debate this exact thing. we came to the conclusion that the raptors in jurassic park are some version of the Deinonychus.
@livethefuture2492
@livethefuture2492 2 года назад
although to be fair one of the big arguments made, is that in jurassic park the all the dinosaurs are genetically modified hybrids, they all have DNA of other organisms added in, to add certain traits that would make them more suitable to the present day environment.
