Could YOUR Lawn Recover From THIS?!?

In this video, I scalp my bermudagrass lawn to do what we call a height of cut reset or a summer scalp. The reason I wanted to scalp the bermuda grass is because I had already scalped half of it to make the mini golf course on my lawn, so it wasn't much more work to scalp the rest of the bermudagrass. I wanted to get rid of brown spots and brown patches of grass or thatch in my bermuda lawn, and scalping helps accomplish that. As you can see in the video, the lawn turned out great - back to its normal dark green lush beautiful green bermudagrass color! Thanks to lawn star for sending this fertilizer to me free of charge to get my lawn looking great again. Also, thanks to Zesen for sending these power strips for free, they will make our garages much more functionable!

Our favorite tree is a "Spring Snow" flowering Crabapple. It doesn't get huge, cool blossoms in the spring, no fruit, and is very resilient. I also like honey locusts since they grow quick and the leaves are small.

That was awesome! Thanks for having me! I had a blast too! Incredible how far the lawn came in those few weeks after the golf course. That day I was there, I would have never known it had just gone through what it did. Gosh, bermuda is best. The utility box thing had me cracking up. I always hate to see the screwdriver test suggestion. It just doesn't hold much water when it comes to bermuda. It grows anywhere!!! Can we talk about the wolf shirt in the beginning 🔥? Thanks again. Appreciate ya making me look so good in the video 👊! Oh, and tell Carol I miss her!

Replace the Maple tree with a Honey Locust. Here is why - they grow quick, form a beautiful open canopy (good for grass beneath), last for decades, and have tiny leafs (also good for grass). Most of the leafs will simply blow away in the wind.
@wayneessar7489
@wayneessar7489 4 года назад
They also leaf out a bit later than other trees and loose the foliage early so their shade is only in the hottest months. Strong branches and great winter interest from all the small ones.

Great Vid! Loved the Wolf shirt in the intro, one of my favorite animals! For the Tree, look at a Weeping Cherry, they form a nice Umbrella shape and bloom a beautiful flower in the spring and are fairly easy to maintain. Devil grass can't kill it for sure, bring it down to almost bare dirt and it pops right back! Peace and God's Love! Chad Upstate NY

Most standard maples are going to eventually get huge. I’d put a small Japanese maple or even a weeping cherry or weeping redbud tree. A redbud in general would be great as it’s a medium sized tree that is slow growing and doesn’t have a very dense canopy, plus beautiful flowers in Spring. I have one and when the flowers drop, it’s hardly noticeable because they’re so tiny.

Was this done in September? I want to do a test patch in my friend’s lawn because he is way over grown. I am in El Paso, Tx and our temps are dropping from the 100’s. With the right fertilizer treatment I thin we can do it but I would really appreciate your input. My Bermuda is cut at just under half an inch and super green after the cut. Can I save his high cut Bermuda this late? I love the content and watch religiously. Any rely would be super awesome!

Avoid Bradford Pear! Grow too fast, ears soul of Arkansas and north Texas Roos stay to close to surface and eventually a typical summer thunderstorm/hail storm will bring enough wind to split the soft wood. Agree with other comments of Japanese maples below.

I have a 6ish year old Shumard oak, and I love it so far. Have to invest in training it, and may start dropping acorns as it gets older (none yet, thankfully)... but none of the major shallow root-related drawbacks of a maple. I think it’d do ok in your zone.

Right tool, that Maple dieing is a blessing in disguise let me tell you why.. they are notorious for roots on the top of the ground when they start getting mature and taken off and I don't think you would like that too well going over with your greens mower. They create a big canopy and a lot of your Bermuda around that area 40- 50 ft out would eventually die over the next 10 years. Get a red crepe myrtle , they stay more compact and they don't drop as much junk as compared to the white and purple ones. They grow a lot slower too.
@allensanchez5817

Maples are good but depending on the cultivar some have the helicopters and drop seedlings everywhere, you could go with Japanese style maple depending on how big you want it to get the emperor Japanese maple is pretty cool, do bald cypresses grow in your area? we have one and it looks like an evergreen but it drops leaves in the fall. Chinese Pistache are cool it just depends on what you want your end goal to be

Don't plant what you think might be great for today, as once any tree gets large enough, the shade will prevent your Bermuda from being able to get the necessary sun to grow and reproduce. I live in Texas and have fought this problem for years with oak trees. Had massive oaks in my yard that shaded our house and added lots of interest to the front of the house...I love oak trees and when I built my new house seven years ago, I planted an 8" caliper cathedral oak in my front yard. The Bermuda did great for three years....now that the tree is about 30' tall, I have had to remove the Bermuda and replace with Zoysia. You have great turf ... so be sure to take the future of whatever you plant into consideration. By the way, what is the little lime green reel mower you use? Have not seen one before.
