Here's a list of the Musicians in the order they played.... Roy Eldridge (Trumpet), Johnny Griffin (tenor saxophone), Milt Jackson (Vibraphone), Count Basie (Piano), Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen (Upright Bass), Louis Bellson (Drummer)
I went to my first Basie concert in 1958 (at the Royal Festival hall, London). I never cease to be amazed to find more great musical moments Basie has created with so many wonderful musicians and combinations of groups. What has Basie so special that so many musicians wanted to perform with him?.
And don't forget Norman Granz ( nickname 'Smedley ) viz Clark Terry's ' Blues for Smedley '. Granz made it all happen , got the players decent conditions, serious money etc ; they loved and respected him. R.I.P. Smedley.
He lived in Switzerland. I saw this incredible gig. Went twice to TMJF in 1975-77. Will never forget those incredible (Pablo recorded it) Jazz Artists. G’day & Cheers!
La musique,du Faso est une source intarissable de douceurs. Elle permet de plonger au plus profond de soi et simultanément d'entrer en résonance avec son prochain, Yé Lassina Coulibaly❤❤❤❤❤
Stood 4 feet away from The Count, just out of his field of view to be mannerly and respectful. Disneyland, June 1978-I think. Heard Al Green play the meanest T-bone solo ever. The set started with “Queen Bee.” What musicians these people were (are). The epitome of subtlety and kindliness in musicianship.
Maybe one of the greatest jams I've ever heard. Basie fan from the beginning, the 30s, and Billie's Bounce with Coltrane's solo is maybe the best. Johnny Griffin, however, absolutely kills it. But the tempo here and the genius of all live is something I'll come back to again and again... My brother plays stand-up bass. I'm send him this NOW! Thank you for posting... (And Basie is unmatched. His sweet silences are unmatched.)
George Kilroy The tenor sax looking like a baritone because of his smallish stature. But by Jesus, he could blow the feathers of the birds! Dig & Enjoy & Cheers!
P - Count Basie B - NHOP(Niel Henning Orsted Pedersen) Tp - Roy Eldridge Ds - Louie Bellson Vib - Milt Jackson Sax - Johnny Griffin Here are jazz tunes what you must know -> visionmusic2014.blog.me/221254035427
Mr. Basie a jazz legend!
Here, in this video COUNT BASIE looks very happy and also he is happy to bring his great musicians to this highest level. It's GREAT. Krikor from L. A. CA.
This is the best performance ever for F blues. Not only audience but all musicians here enjoyed playing. A lots of CEOs should learn how to move and motivate his men from Basie.
re hommefriday. I saw and heard the great Basie Band on the same tour. It was in the now non existent ST Andrews hall in Glasgow. When this lot shuffled onto the platform and went into one of their head arrangements., I thought my whole body was going to dissolve. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I spoke to the bass player outside. These guys have no airs and graces , just fantastic human beings. Did not shout Henry but "Coker" ! One has to realise that Basie's real genius was in knowing the right tempo for every tune. Music dies if the tempo is not absolutely right.
It's a great tribute to a master musician Bill Basie that all the wonderful musicians here are really trying hard to come up to awesome level of swing and creativity that he established in jazz through the decades. There is no doubt at any moment who's in charge of the rhythm section and the whole proceedings and Basie does it with minimal fuss and effort. BTW, this delightful jam occurred in 1975 (July 19 to be exact) and NOT in 77.
vova47 You’re correct! I did (again) attend the ‘77 Jam Session also. Those exiting Jazz days are (very sadly) long gone. I have been very fortunate to have experienced this incredible Jazz music. A huge loss for the current generation(s). YT is therefore a godsend for them to be able to access what great, inventive, passionate Jazz was/is all about. Enjoy & Cheers!
sorry, but just putting good musicans together does not mean, that the result is great. Pedersons electric sound, does not match the basie sound at all.
Great Video. It even made me to subscribe to your channel. However, i must voice my deep displeasure. Not listing the Artists by name and Instrument is 'criminal'. This is Jazz. Jazz is 'INTELLECTUAL'! Every thing must be perfect.
Neils henning orsted peterson was one of the most in demand bass players in europe. Often listed as the top bass players. Played frequently with dexter gordon and oscar peterson.
Electrifying performance by Basie & his fantastic men! I was among the crowd that went absolutely berserk. Two years later had the same effect, with the Pablo-stable of these marvellous Jazz artists. But this gig blew the top of the roof! Sweet memories of a bygone era that once was.... And vova47 is correct that this ripper concert was in 1975. Two years later was again a rippin’ Basie Jam-Session! Dig this, enjoy & Cheers!
eromadrol eromadrol I was also (this one was in ‘75), and again in 1977. Unbelievable experience. Those were (indeed) the greatest Jazz days. Enjoy & Cheers!
Lucky you! I was born 10 months later... 50 years too late, definitely! I still could listen to Ray Brown live though @ Marignac Festival early 2000's. But I missed the Jazz Train by 50 years, forever sorry, given the plain shite we get to hear nowadays...
Romain JACCOUD At least we’ve got those recordings/tapes Romain. I’ve been very lucky to have been able to see quite a few of these incredible Jazz-man during the 1970’s whilst living in Holland, before returning to Australia. The years from 1945 till 1985 were the best of the best fantastic Jazz. What we’ve got now is mostly mediocre, in my opinion. Good talking to you. Just Dig this great clip, Enjoy & Cheers!
Sometimes I wish I was 80 today instead of just 42... some time like this when I listen to THE CREAM OF THE CREAM! Moreover in homeland Switzerland Lac Léman Montreux!!! 🇨🇭❤
@@ronaldunkel2681 thank you for sharing your valuable experience, I just have my imagination left to figure myself in such a gig... crying out sheer auditive climax, I guess, in awe 😂😂 they were just all perfect together!! As a matter of fact, I listen to this tune everyday after work, among others, and play the piano or trumpet along 😉
