For the first numbers round, I got a different answer by factoring the target (which is obviously divisible by 7). 8 x 2 = 16 75 - 16 = 59 59 x 7 = 413 I finished early enough to look for alternatives, and found one with 75 x 5. 75 x 5 = 375 8 x 7 = 56 9 x 2 = 18 56 - 18 = 38 375 + 38 = 413 The answer to the second numbers round was obvious ((100 + 10) x 2), so I tried to find less obvious alternatives. 7 x 6 = 42 3 + 2 = 5 42 x 5 = 210 210 + 10 = 220 10 x 3 = 30 30 + 7 = 37 37 x 6 = 222 222 - 2 = 220 There were several obvious solutions to the third numbers round, so I went for one a little outre (though really it's just taking the relevant number and multiplying it by 4 / 3): 9 x 9 = 81 100 x 81 = 8100 8100 / 75 = 108 50 / 25 = 2 108 - 2 = 106 You also could do the following if you want to use all the numbers again: 9 / 9 = 1 75 + 50 = 125 125 / 25 = 5 100 + 5 + 1 = 106 In the following letters round, I got DIOXANE before it was mentioned on Dictionary Corner because of the aforementioned chemistry courses. Then I got UNVEILS as well as LINEUPS, but I think the latter might be too American for Susie's dictionary. The final numbers round was disappointing, because not only was it easy (I was surprised Alex didn't spot the answer!), but also because it didn't offer much scope for alternatives. However, there were a few: 75 + 25 + 9 = 109 9 - 7 = 2 109 x 2 = 218 218 + 3 = 221 75 + 7 = 82 82 x 3 = 246 246 - 25 = 221 75 + 9 = 84 84 / 3 = 28 28 x 7 = 196 196 + 25 = 221

Me being on the other side of the world, I've caught more of 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown. Watching this right after has really made it a bummer. Still great for the brain though.

At around 21:00, I calculated 106 a different way: 9x9=81 minus 75= 6 plus 100= 106 (Proud of myself to get the ‘teatime’ conundrums, and at ~28:45 I got a 7-letter word not appearing on their board: ‘Unveils’. Anyone else think Alex is too young to never smile? 😐

Notably this is Episode 5946 as of the S70 GF and the original 5775 was as of the 2nd semi in Series 67.
