In the first numbers round, I saw Joseph S's solution below, and I also had these ones: 75 - 7 - 6 = 62 62 x 3 = 186 186 - 5 = 181 75 / 3 = 25 25 + 1 = 26 26 x 7 = 182 6 - 5 = 1 182 - 1 = 181 75 / 3 = 25 25 + 5 = 30 30 x 6 = 180 180 + 1 = 181 In the second numbers round, there are solutions for one either way, not just for 804 as Rachel implied: 6 x 6 = 36 36 - 4 = 32 32 x 25 = 800 800 + 3 + 3 = 806 25 - 3 = 22 22 x 6 x 6 = 792 4 x 3 = 12 792 + 12 = 804 In the third numbers round, I saw Rachel's solution and I believe her other way may have been this: 50 / 2 = 25 100 + 25 = 125 125 x 7 = 875 8 - 7 = 1 875 - 1 = 874 Or it may have been this: 100 x 8 = 800 7 x 7 = 49 800 + 49 = 849 50 / 2 = 25 849 + 25 = 874 In the final round, I saw Jenny's solution at once because I always factor the equations, so I spent the 30 seconds coming up with this one: 75 - 10 = 65 65 x 10 = 650 650 x 3 = 1950 1950 - 6 = 1944 1944 / 4 = 486 The logic behind this is something I've practiced in four-large games. Because the four large numbers are fixed, you can do not only make numbers like 2 (50 / 25), 3 (75 / 25), and 4 (100 / 25), but you can also do ratios like 3 : 2, (75 / 50), 3 : 4 (75 / 100), etc. However, you can obviously do that with the small numbers too, if you get them. 600 divided by 4 is 150 and 50 / 4 = 12.5, so 650 / 4 = 162.5. Multiply that by 3 and you get 487.5. That's 1.5 off from what I need, but I have a 6, which is 1.5 when divided by 4, so subtracting 6 from that large number before dividing it yields the correct answer.
For the last one sure its; 75*6 = 450 10*3 = 30 add that together = 480 10-4 = 6 Add it together = 486 (BTW - your way is very impressive - but those telephone numbers blow my mind hehe)
1) treat is like all smalls - divide target by 3 & work to the 62: 75-(7+6)=62x3=185-5 2) 6x(25-3)=132x6=792+(4x3)=804 - I hate the impossibles! 3) tricky - had to find a way to get a 25: 50÷2=25+100=125*7=875-(8-7)=874 4) find the divisible, which is 6 (x 81=486) so just add 10 to 75-4 thus 81x6=486
100+7 =107 107*8=856 50/2=25 856+25-881 881-7=874 Not sure why I even watch these, I'm generally terrible at the numbers rounds! Also Ann Robinson was totally the wrong presenter for thins; she really doesn't need to just repeat the target number Rachel has literally just said!
Rachel seemed to get that first one as she was speaking. That's the second video I've watched from this channel (which so far cover the numbers games since she came back from maternity leave) where she hasn't appeared to get the answer within the time, despite being reasonably easy. I used to be an absolute wizz at these (often getting them before the timer was started, and often getting them when Vorderman couldn't, back in the day before Rachel), but I have slowed down as I've got older (and use mental arithmetic less often). Whilst I haven't watched the show on TV for years, should I even see numbers games (normally on video clips like these or 8OOTCDC), I've typically found Rachel to be excellent - only very, very rarely is there one that I've got and she hasn't. Maybe "old age" or lack of practice has caught up with her, too.
You won't get any of the ones she doesn't get anymore. The reason she said 805 was impossible with such confidence is that there's a computer program that checks it backstage.
@@AndySurtees I seem to remember several years ago there were claims that dictionary corner used a computer program to help, which resulted in a load of fuss. I'm not sure they'd bother "cheating" like this - as it is, she often seems to need some extra time, suggesting she does it herself. And I would imagine they either record multiple versions and/or re-record parts, as needed (so she can always suggest more time is needed before recording a new clip saying it's not possible). As it is, given how competent she is, I think there are often times where she can determine something is impossible or not.
@@harryp7346 so I can tell you how it happens as I’ve been in the audience for countdown! If Rachel doesn’t solve it in the time she does actually sit there and work it out and gives a thumbs up if she manages it, then they go back to her. Then if it’s impossible someone will tell her in her ear that it can’t be done😅
