I've noticed some people rolling out as Ball, see what the enemy tank is, then roll back to their spawn to swap accordingly at the start of the game. Exasperating.

Only if there was a second tank to help mitigate the weak points of the tank you’re playing, therefore counterswapping won’t be as problematic.

I feel like we are in this weird cycle. Stage 1) players say they don't like rock, paper scissors, fall over tank. Stage 2) Blizzard says new season they are doing something to help this. Stage 3) New Season drops. We think maybe the changes is it. Stage 4) Tanks play a game of counters only to fall over and over. Stage 5) We die alittle on the inside as we put our clown makeup on because we know we will be back next season.

NGL, this is why I actually quit playing OW2. It's nothing but SwapWatch when you queue as Tank, except in my games, I have usually have at least one of the DPS and Support heroes counter-swap me too. It's made the game unplayable for me. I expect this to happen in Comp, but it actually happened to me more in QP. Edit: Bring back 6v6 and I might play again. The 5v5 format sucks major ass.

Wasn't one of the main focus of this patch to help tanks popping? I'm just annoyed at this point that the devs have made it so tanks one purpose(To be able to tank damage) is just kinda impossible now.

In a Meta where Counter-picking is more valuable than skill or ultimates (which has got to be the worst meta) Sombra countering nearly the entire cast is probably the worst balancing decision they have done.

Well that is a tactic... counter swap picking and keeping the other tank in spawn as they keep habitually swapping and checking the scoreboard to see what you swapped to while keeping the fights to 4v4 cover based fps death match.

I fr hate counterswap, i go winton and they start orisa or sum then i win and they swap to reaper bastion and a counter tank, then u have to swap or u throw

I think a good way to discourage counter-swapping would be to have customized passives you can select, but they only activate once you use your ult once or twice, and they go away if you swap. These passives could be gameplay-defining, such as reduced headshot damage taken, increased healing when at low health, or increased healing from the global healing passive. There should be a group of universal passives and role specific passive you can choose from of course.

Counterswapping is most of the reason why playing tank feels miserable. They really need to reduce the effectiveness or incentive to counter swap so often on Tank. Its not an easy problem to solve but its one they HAVE to solve if they are going to keep it 5v5 with one tank.

To be honest my dude, everything in this game has gotten out of hand. From counter picking to hard counters to forced metas to the power creep to the dps passive band-aid to the 5v5 format. It all started with the 5v5 format replacing the 6v6 format. Sure, we had counter swaps back in OW1 but it was never that bad. Never as bad as it is in the 5v5 format, especially since most heroes are still tuned for 6v6! and i'll keep saying that until we get 6v6 back. 5v5 is just a horrible format for this specific game. Tanking is a mess and a nightmare throughout most of the ranks. DPS have neve been more oppressive together with the already oppressive support comps. 6v6 can't return fast enough. I wanna have a tank buddy again.

Just a reminder to everyone that the devs WANT the tank role to be a skill-less rock paper scissors swap fest… they want what you pick to be more important towards winning than how well you play it… Spilo brought this up to them at the latest creator summit and they shrugged it off.

Counter swapping is so bad right now. In all my games if i beat the other tank 1 they insta swap to my hard counter then i swap to theirs and kill them then they swap again and it keeps repeating. Im tired of hero muscical chairs, i wanna play the heroes i like not the meta. Ive only really noticed tanks having to swap, dps/supports almost never have to at least from what ive seen. Also screw sombra, lets make it so you can use your hero abilities in a hero shooter. Fun

Counter swapping causing you trouble? I have a bit of a crazy idea… hear me out it’s a gamemode you’ve never heard off where there is 2 of every role so you can have another tank cover some of the weaknesses of another wouldn’t that be interesting I know it sounds crazy

Im finding it harder and harder to play Overwatch for more than an hour at a time, this season. Ive been playing this game since 2016 and theyve managed to turn into something I can barely stand. I dont know that it's one thing that can be changed to bring it back, but it's pretty obvious theyve dug themselves into a hole that they have no clue how to get out of.

Gonna go out on a limb and say you probably shouldn't be able to either see the enemy team entirely, or, see people after they die, until they reenter you line of sight.

I really do not understand what changed in this season, but I feel like every single match I lose is because the enemy team outswapped mine.

I’ve had multiple games where me and the other tank sit in spawn spamming swaps while looking at tab. If the other guy swaps, just go back to spawn and swap again and it kept going

its funny how i rarely use my ult as a tank these days. saying "ill ult then swap" is basically throwing

I think a good solution to counterwatch would be limited switches, at least in ranked.

This is why I stopped playing ow2 recently. I had a realisation I was never getting to play the heroes I liked to play because people will instantly swap and harass you all game. I always get forced into heroes I don’t like so why even play in the first place.

It really makes tanking a lot less fun having to play like this. It's already a hard role to learn, but to need to learn the entire roster of tanks really sucks.

It’s interesting seeing how many people don’t know that this game is a hybrid FPS or just don’t know or accept what that means. Explains why there are so many players that think they can win 1v5s and try to face tank an entire team by themselves.

They should come out with a gamemode called hero lock or something. You have until the spawn doors open but once they open you can’t swap PERIOD. I’d even take it as an arcade mode.

It’s the exact same in plat lobbies too. I kill one widow, ashe or soldier as Winton and within the next 10 seconds they’ll get a reaper

If the devs really wanted to change this behavior, they would do the thing one-tricks have been asking for since the beginning and add changes that reward character knowledge and skill. One such change would be to make ult charge faster the longer you play a character.

There are two tanks, MAIN TANK AND FLEX TANK, these each counter each other. THE BEAUTIFUL THING about having two, is the counters aren’t as serious 5v5 would have worked if it was 2 tanks, 1 dps and 2 supps, because even FLEX DPS get consistent value 1 TANK DOES NOT WORK

it feels like half of the heroes in ow2 are designed to make sure another specific hero is unable to play the game.

I would consider this to be just another reason why removing a tank from the game was a mistake. Counter swapping wouldn't vanish with two tanks, but it would be less practical/incentivized when you have two enemy tanks to deal with, as well as synergy with your tank partner to consider. Solo tank also comes with the issue of that one tank being forced into becoming the most important player on each team, having the highest impact of any one character and allowing the enemy team free reign if they fall. I personally have issues with role queue as well, but whatever :P

With this patch instead of nerfing damage and healing they buff health which kind of did the same thing in the other direction. But they buffed hit detection which buffed certain characters more than others

Yesternight I had a match were my tanks was swaping as the enemy tank was coming out with a diff hero. The enemy tank said "tank you counterswap loser", and I was like "blud th you talking about, this is Counterwacth. Overwatch died 2 years ago"

I’ve always loved when I play Junker Queen and then, the second the enemy tank dies, they switch to Orisa or Zarya. Very fun.

I feel like they should add a pick phase. And that you can still swap but not to a hero that is taken by any team. To make the game more tactical you risk that your hero can be taken by the other team if you swap. And no mirror comp.

There is also a problem that players acting like a hive mind, that learns something kinda slow, but when it does it's really hard to wipe it from memory, even if its not effective anymore I'm pretty sure that behavior of counterswapping will stay for way longer than it will be effective I guess I tried to say that even if Dev team wants to get rid of it, hive mind won't let it so easily, and tank players will suffer way longer that it will be necessary to change balance

Tanks cant tank with dps passive. Alleviating the pressure by swapping to a countering tank means your team uses less resources on you and more resources on killing the enemy team. A forced playstyle for tank otherwise you throw. I mean, you know its bad when 1 tricks are having a more difficult time than usual battling their counters (which they specialize playing against) cyx and zbra gameplay can look incredibly depressing this season lol

Seems the issue is the Sombra at the start. The moment the backline died once to it they all swapped. And it's not much of a counter picking but just mystery heroes.

Yo should tanks be immune to the dps passive? Or at least reduced healing reduction compared to other roles. Just an idea, but it could help the role
