Brian, thank you so much for this! love seeing your take on my deck, and it was so much fun watching you pilot it today. Frog is really good and def worth making the deck more blue, and I think there's something to be said for opp having to play around FOW once they see underground sea, but it not actually being in the deck. I agree with your final thoughts, and while I really like the idea of an "I win" button in the deck, like I was doing with Timetwister in my list, I think one of the strengths of the deck is having high velocity and just being able to apply pressure to the hand/mana/board. You also mentioned how this deck isn't great against the "fair" decks, and I've found that to be true as well. I think this deck is as good as it's creatures can disrupt the opps gameplan, and so the less our creature's textboxes read, the worse the matchup generally. Thank you again, man!
Round 4 game 2 i was thinking: Fetch underground see. Crack lotud for black. Cast frog floating BB. Discard grief to frogs ability. Reanimate grief. Take 1 card and have 2 threats in play. Mulligan flux away, keep timewalk for possible land of the top for extra turn with 2 beaters. Looked so good for them but then baiting them into playing into flux ended up being so much better
I can see Bauble being Restricted in Vintage. It functions much like Chalice and Lavinia, and it is good enough to be seeing so much play in decks that want to prevent combo interruptions. It's a pretty disgusting card. It's the Chalice interaction, where the person on the play gets to dump so much free mana and then play the Chalice to shut down the opponent's ability to counter or play their zeros. This is coming from someone on the outs of Vintage, where I only watch, but I can absolutely see it going to one.
It exacerbates the die roll, which is already a huge deal in vintage to begin with. At the NYSE while I was looking at other matches, there were so many instances where the person on the draw had a handful of power, and was just totally stuffed by bauble.
@StevenRiseNYC exactly! It's a disgusting card that stuffs a lot of play in vintage. The die roll isn't the end-all, be-all of Vintage, but in some matches, it's ABSOLUTELY a deciding factor, and Bauble can stifle that.
So much seratonin from this video. BUG plus dark ritual plus that ancestral on consultation win. When bug shouldn't be winning but it does feels like bant yorion from last year ❤
I love your content. It feels like you really love the game and have fun playing it so it is really refreshing. Of course you are an awesome player too and let's not forget that you play the best formats xD
Cool to see some vintage content! Always a nice diversion from the Legacy grind :) Frog didn't seem too impressive. In fact, your Oath lists might be nice against people trying the Frog.
I think frog is one of the biggest reasons to add blue after recall and time walk, once you scam/discard/dump your hand distrupting your opp, frog lets you start to build card advantage, and I think works perfect in this deck
