There is one Coach Someone' Douche bag making fun out of this video of yours calling you inappropriate names.. I would love to see you response to the TRT junky idiot..
Left unsaid here is low carb high good fats and proteins in one or two meals a day, and eating until you are comfortably full, will NEVER leave you hungry. NEVER. You may initially have cravings for sweets, but that is not hunger. Your body will magically get to where it wants to be, not where YOU want it to be. So many good things will result that you’ll never go back to high carbs and processed foods. It took me 6 months, a ton of videos (Dr. Berry’s are my favorites), but there are others that You Tube will send you. Watch, learn and discern. My goal is to have my last days and years with good health and no chronic issues that can be torture. I’m convinced this is the way and that this is the pathway to better health.
I'm telling people I've cut out sugar and simple carbs (as a way of life), because the minute I say "Keto" people are telling me (who really know nothing about it) how "dangerous" it is. However, they think it's really cool that I've cut out sugar and simple carbs, lol.
Yep. Also as soon as I say I am keto diet people say, "why you are already skinny." They don't realize that skinny fat is a thing and is very unhealthy and also that cutting sugar is a way to be healthy, not just to lose weight.
Yes, I told my uncle that keto diet seemed to be the healthy way now. Then he started telling me how dangerous it is. All the saturated fats. But I learned that he actually ate very little carb. He ate lots of vegetables, some meat and a lot of nuts. So I think he is sort of doing keto diet without knowing it.
@@SuccessforLifester he probably is. Saturated fats are our friends, the problem is he's going to be cutting out sodium and fats, and still having his insulin spike some from all that protein, and he's going to create more glucose out of that, and that COULD negatively impact his health. He needs to eat his dang fats.
Amen brother. Couldn’t agree with this video more. I was doing OMAD eating anything I wanted, the scale went down, but plateaued for months and months! Cut out all processed sugars and 95% of my carbs and holy shit! I’m eating over 3 meals a day I’m so satiated and full and the scale is going down the body fat is falling off! I can’t believe it. Fat calories and sugar calories are definitely not equal.
Lost 31 lbs. in five months! Did not count calories at all. Did not exercise at all. I am now below my goal weight. I am 68 years old, and look the best I have looked in 25 years! Thank you Dr. Berry and the Keto diet!
same here didn't do exercise just cut off my snacks, fruit and sugary drinks and I loss 2.5 inches on my waist for two months .. as an asian who are used in eating rice and so on it's difficult to cut it off totally
@@marcusmanmarcus if you are overweight your body would first gets it's protein from your skin before getting it from your muscle but if you are afraid of muscle lost just rise protein and calorie count
Well said Doc! Hubby and I have been working out and “eating clean” for 20 years. We recently went Keto and have never been so lean! Our abs have popped, our veins in our arms are popping, we are absolutely loving it! Oh and husbands blood pressure is the lowest it’s been (he was on meds for 15 years) so glad we found this!
@@MichPreps Perhaps by offering free, great advice on how to solve the obesity, heart disease, diabetes etc. epidemic that is plaguing our nation? I dunno, just a guess.
I've been doing the ketogenic diet since April 2017 and recently started intermittent fasting. In total, I've lost 62 pounds and I'm still dropping. I've never felt better!!! No. More. Hypoglycemia!! So happy to not get dizzy anymore!! So happy to see my midsection drop INCHES!!! So happy to feel good about myself!! This is my new lifestyle! So loving this!
I just found your videos. I am a relatively recent convert to LCHF. My life and my patient's life have changed for the better! As a fellow family doc, it's refreshing to find there is another PCP giving sound nutrition advice. Keep it up!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I have been preaching this over and over - even inside keto diet groups - but nobody believes me. This mis-information about calories is so ingrained. Thank you so much for finally providing a video wd can share with studies and sources, instead of just our own knowledge. Thank you!
Kris Bryant ....yah these same people are the ones getting mad cause you turned down their offer of a piece of cake!!! I gave up on explaining how keto works because a lot of people insist on believing calories in versus calories out and fat is bad....THEY DONT WANT TO KNOW!! 😞
Yep, true, but I meant inside my keto diet groups on FB, other people on keto. I never try to convert or convince those outside of keto, they're too uneducated about nutrition, but those inside the keto community who are already following a keto diet, many of them are still also counting calories and preaching "calories in, calories out". Sure, there is some truth to not overeating even on keto, but I do that by regulating my fat intake, not counting calories.
I’ve just stopped counting calories for the first time in years and my mind is telling me that I will turn into a ballon. However you just told those negative thoughts that they’re stupid and invalid. This gave me so much motivation! Thank you!
spive21 love the comment spive21. I hate reading comments and seeing all negativity when we're are supposed to be using this for motivating each other. Great vibes here!
Thank you so much for all these videos! I have my entire family, husband & 3 kids ages 10-16 "living the keto life" as my 16 year old daughter tells people. I'm finally losing weight again & my husband recently had his bloodwork done to find out he's OUT of the diabetic scale! In less than 2 months of changing g over to keto!❤ We're all in love with keto & not looking back!
In my experience, I have to disagree. I am a T2 diabetic. Before Keto, I was using nearly a vial of insulin daily. On "lazy" Keto (just watching carbs), my insulin usage went down to a third of a vial of insulin daily. In both cases, my blood sugars were only moderately under control. And no weight loss. Probably a gain (I was too heavy for any scale I had access to). At the start of 2017, I started a restricted 1200-calorie version of Keto. I haven't needed insulin since, and stopped taking Metformin a few months ago. I also lost 180 pounds in the past 13 months. My pre-meal or fasting blood sugar is typically between 83 and 100 (with a severe "dawn phenomenon effect"). The main difference between "lazy" Keto and restricted 1200-calorie Keto? I eliminated or cut back on several favorite items -- sausages, butter, and cheese. All nearly zero carb, but lots of fats (and thus calories). But, yes, calories (alone) may not be the correct thing to measure. But carbs (alone) aren't either. At least for me. I need to "count" both.
Randy: I am a type 2 diabetic also, and I have had a difficult time losing weight. I have failed at keto multiple times and only succeeded when I have counted my calories also. I agree with your conclusion that you need to look at both calories and carbs. In addition, I get better results even when I allow myself more carbs, so long as I keep my calories under control and fast 16-18 hours per day. I allow myself about 80 carbs per day, but I usually do not eat carbs after lunch.
Finally someone telling it like it really is.You and Dr. Berg keep up the good work.I have done exactly what you guys said and I have lost 60 lbs. in 120 days and completely got off all my medications and totally reversed my type 2 Diabetes. My inflammation in every joint is also better, thanks.
“Obesity and being overweight is not a calorie problem it’s a hormone problem” yes and why do we have a hormone problem (in most cases) it’s the food we eat, usually being processed foods.
Dr. BERRY, THANK YOU FOR KEEPING THIS SIMPLE. SO MANY PEOPLE give us to much info we will never remember it all. I love your info and will continue to follow you. Love you, Geri
When I hear you, Jason Wittrock, and Dr. Berg agree on the fundamentals, and indeed, everything I can think of , I feel completely assured that keto isn't just the right way, but its the only way. 4 thousand years ago the Chinese medicine classics recommend essentially a high fat, moderate, meat, high veggie, low starch diet. Then 4000 years of losing our minds and then 2010 the world comes full circle. I am PERMANENTLY subscribed. Keep up the great work!!!
I tried calorie restricting for 3 months, only to lose a few pound, and then put twice as much back on. Since cutting out the carbs and going keto, I've lost a lot of weight without restricting or counting calories, in fact now I'm fat adapted I'm still losing weight without even needing or wanting to lose anymore. I'm glad that more people like yourself are putting this truth out there, people are spending millions a year on weight watchers and slimming world, and adding up every single thing they eat. Absolutely bonkers
My new favorite channel! Love this guy. Day 3 carnivore diet and I cannot believe how amazing i feel. Digestion ia great. Mood ia great! No more sweets cravings. Cant wait to share my weighoss results as they happen.
Jason hi... do you stay under 15 g carbs total or net? I'm wondering if you incorporate the leafy veggies such as Dr Berg recommends to avoid potential fatty liver....?
I do not count fiber. I did not type that out correctly though. I stay under 15g of carbs per day minus fiber. Sorry for the confusion. I dont worry about fatty liver.
And I would bet that didn't work for you in the long run .The only way to lose weight/fat is from a calorie deficit . While keto is one of the healthiest ways of eating no argument there .Eating super High fat and not keeping track of calorie intake back fires for most people after that initial 20 to 30 lbs loss. Good luck though and I hope you lost more that the 20 lbs water weight by now
Jason That is really good advice actually. Don’t count calories. Just count carbs. Cutting down on wheat and sugar will reduce inflammation so much it’s unbelievable.
the average woman only needs about 1800 to maintain, so if you are eating one meal a day you are deff eating in a calorie deficit. a 1800 calorie meal is pretty big even for me as a guy that can eat allot.
Doesn't mean you weren't in a calorie deficit. Doing IF allowed you to eat less calories, eating less carbs allowed you to hold less glycogen and water.
@@darishennen898 yes it does, the only way to lose weight is with a calorie deficit, its just basic science. Everything with keto, macros, and IF all just are cico in disquise, all those diets result in a defecit of calories.
@@epiclamp44 I think you're specifically thinking more of losing fat. You can lose weight at maintenance or even in a surplus temporarily if you're not taking in carbs or water. Weighing in on a scale will show a significant drop in weight if you're dehydrated or have less glycogen.
I am wondering about this. I once did a HCLF 600kcal diet and a LCHF 1600kcal diet, and the weight loss was exactly the same. My TDEE at the time was 2100kcal a day. Same starting weight for both diets, and very similar body composition when I started. I now work with a dietitian who estimates what my TDEE is and how much of a calorie deficit I should do, she started me off on a moderate carb diet but we saw such slow result (less than the CICO calculation projected) that she decreased the carb intake to a low carb but non ketogenic diet. She didn't want to recommend keto. I wasn't feeling my best on that low carb non keto diet, and had once had better results keto-ing on my own, so I made some adjustments (still going with her recommendations on calorie intake and protein intake, I was just exchanging some carbs for fat). I feel much better now on keto, and have better results than on the low carb non keto diet. But even within keto I lose more weight the more I restrict the carbs. My goal weight is in sight, and I've started wondering about how to stabilize weight. Sometimes it happens on its own, but my previous experience tells me I tend to drop a little too low. Some people recommend not increasing calories, but only increasing carbs. Others recommend increasing both. Some recommend only increasing calories, which will be hard to do since my current macros and calorie intake combo fills me up. I can't ask the dietitian, who is still along for the ride supervising me doing keto even though that wasn't what she wanted me to do, because she doesn't know much about keto. Sorry if TLDR. Maybe I should ask the keto reddit.
@@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 im just starting and eating 1600 and 30 carbs Should i lower it to 20? I also dont eat much fat or protein, just a slice of ham, 3 slices of chz worth, and a chk thigh in airfryer a day Cant tell what i should up or lower, but ive hit a stall just a few days in and im usually hungry and i eat 2 meals a day Same tdee as u too lol
@@bruty16 A stall for a few days is absolutely normal, even people who water fast (don't take in anything except for water) experience stalls that last for a few days. Give it a week or two. Going from 30gr net carbs a day to 20gr net carbs a day can't hurt though. Where are those 1600kcal coming from if you don't eat much fat or protein? What you say you eat doesn't sound like enough. In any case if you're hungry too often eat more. Don't be afraid to stop counting calories, just eat according to hunger and satiety cues. It's much better for your metabolism in the long run.
I changed my diet last September to keto I kept my kcals roughly the same 4500\5000 but just changed my macro's I lost 40lb in 10 weeks and in the process feel 10 times better more energy I'm sticking to this way of life love it . Totally agree with what your saying great video thanks 😁
how about we track the calories of the people who are losing weight using keto? id like to see a study where someone loses weight at a surplus on keto.
There’s an implication here that can potentially confuse people. Instead of saying the amount of calories has NOTHING to do with weight gain or loss, you should say calories are not the SOLE metric to consider in issues of weight. The quantity in / quantity out concept is still somewhat relevant, even as a secondary consideration to hormonal imbalance. You shouldn’t imply that quantities of food (portion sizes) play zero part. That’s what a lot of people want to hear so that’s what they end up gleaning from this video.
Thanks Dr Berry. Watch all your videos. I am brand new to keto. 2 weeks now. Going great. You are a true source of knowledge for me. Lost 15 lbs so far and off 1 blood pressure medicine, my long acting insulin already. My numbers have never been this good in 15 years. I was 270 to start and want to get down to 180. Keep the videos coming.
THANK YOU! I have been keto for several months...calories are high but still losing weight. I was really concerned about the calories, but it seems like it's all working out well.
I’ve always wanted to see a study where identical twins eat 2000 calories every day for a year, one twin eats brownies and muffins and the other twin eats steak and eggs and compare the physiques I think it would open people’s eyes
Enjoying your book, "Lies My Doctor Told Me". Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing such a great book. This is the most important book about health I've ever read. Keto Way of Eating is making me feel and look younger. The weight is coming off, but the big surprise is how much my health has improved.
But this causes the body to hold onto fat by lowering the metabolic rate. So you will gain everything right back as soon as you go to a more normal eating pattern.
Suzanne Dallape that’s why you use diet breaks slowly go back to maintenance. People gain the weight back because they go back to eating how they were.
Dr. Berry, I have watched your videos with skepticism. The more I have watched, the more sense you seem to make. So my wife and I embarked on our annual diet with your suggestions. We are nearing the end of our 11th week. I have religiously followed your suggestions and this morning when I weighed, I had achieved my initial goal of -50.6 lbs. My wife is at -38.0 lbs. We love our new lifestyle (not diet) and want to help all our friends who are amazed at the new us. My wife no longer is on her high blood pressure medicine and my cardiologist was totally shocked that I had lost 30 lbs since June 12th of this year. I am now down 50.6 and want to get down 66 as my next goal. My ultimate goal is to weigh 191, which was my weight 29 years ago when we got married. I can't thank you enough and while I wish I could have learned what you have taught me when I was young (and I can't), perhaps I can help some others who truly need to listen to your videos so they can lead productive and healthy lives.
I was 190 lbs (5'7" 55 years old) 10 months ago. Traditional dieting did not work at all for me. Once I started eating more fatty foods, no soft drinks, cheese, eggs, salami, and peanuts for snacks, fasting except from 12-5, I lost 40 lbs. I now weigh what I did in High school for the first time since then. I am not hardcore and will eat carbs when eating out. I eat ice cream (homemade all cream, stevia sweetener), and all the stuff we were told was bad (pork belly, bacon, etc.), and all my numbers improved (cholesterol, triglycerides, etc.). I don't eat any processed snacks, or soft drinks, and I don't miss them. My Dr seems unaware of the ideas presented here, but was asking me for more information after seeing the change. You are on to something, keep up the good work.
I'm so thankful for this relatively easy lifestyle. I don't count carbs, calories, fat or protein anymore. What an utter waste of time that was. I just follow the basic guidelines of LCHF, eat very tasty food and listen to my body's satiety and hunger signals. I'm down to one meal a day and with good sleep, it's not an issue. I love it!
You will get there. I've always had trouble sleeping or staying asleep. I've come to terms with waking once during the night on most nights (used to be two) and that has helped relax me about sleeping. I've made several adjustments, the largest one is sleeping in a separate room because my husband snores. I also try to get in bed at the same time every night, surf, read then I fall asleep. I take my sleep very seriously now because of the impact it has on health. If I don't get enough sleep, I want to eat everything, even on LCHF.
Yes!! This completely resonates with me!! Most of the modern food we eat has sugar added hence ‘carbs of which are sugars’ even Bread has sugar added and jars of bolognese sauce! Restaurants promote carb rich foods because sugar is addictive and makes them want more. It’s shocking what the food industry has done. Thank you so much for this video! I have never been one for counting calories until the last few days and now I will stop and delete the app I used to count them. Thank You! 🤩
Totally agree! After doing keto for the last year and losing 50lbs without counting or tracking a dang thing or any crazy exercise this could not be more true!! The calorie myth is a great book to read regarding this!
I am another physician with a different opinion. Calories are still useful for determining an upper threshold of intake above which fat loss will either be stunted or will not occur. It also works well for people who use flexible dieting. Personally, I pay more attention to protein and fiber intake while keeping calories constant, and I've lost 16 pounds doing that. Some people still enjoy the occasional brownie sundae and keep their weight in check, all thanks to tracking caloric intake. -Dushyant S. Mann, M.D.
So true! I lost about 80 pounds on Weight Watchers decades ago ... I kept the weight off for several years, but eventually I gained and gained and gained again. Keto is a much easier, tastier, and a reasonable approach to better health/weight loss. Thank you for pointing all of this out, Dr. Berry!
Well I use keto, intermittent fasting and count calories.. Perfect combination for me and I lost over 72 lbs, I'm at my maintenance weight and was able to get off of several medications..... I think this is the only time I've disagreed with you doctor..Calories do matter a great deal in my opinion..Thanks again for the continued videos and keep them coming. ☺☺☺
If you are limiting your carbs and timing your meals(intermittent fasting) that is going to help you lose weight. It’s not necessary to count calories. You may know how many calories you are eating but now how many of those calories your body is using.
Thank you Dr. Berry. So far the Keto diet had been helping me tremendously. Yes, it is the sugar and carbs we need to fear. Great job making this video.
I started keto on January 5th and I've lost 6.7 lbs so far. I was getting frustrated by all the information I was given and how expensive it was going to be until I stumbled on your video about cheap keto and how hot dogs and mustard are better than not eating keto. I have been counting my macros and calories religiously because I was under the understanding that I had to eat at a caloric deficit and keep my macros in a particular ratio of fat:protein:carbs or I wouldn't lose weight. It has been stressing me out a little and people that don't count on keto seem to lose just as much weight. Thanks for making these videos, I've learned a lot and it's helping me change my life.
Thankyou so much for your videos . I'm just starting out doing keto and have been baffled by the maths of it all till I watched you video on can you eat too much fat? This put my mind at rest. I'm doing keto to loose some weight but also hopefully help treat my epilepsy and reduce pain levels from my fybromialgia. I have done so many low fat diets in the past also slimming world and yes I lost weight but god! I was hungry all the time and slimming world encourage you to fill up on pasta and carbs . They also allowed you to eat a lot of processed food that there was no way good for you. Then a friend mentioned keto to me last week as I was already looking into going sugar free. So I looked it up and watched your videos and started it about 4 days ago . Already I have stopped craving junk and only need to eat a couple of times a day . I don't wake up starving for breakfast either now. I've noticed after the first couple of days my pain levels had dropped because I was no longer consuming sugar and junk. I will weigh myself at the end of the week and see what has happened. I've absolutly loved being able to Put full fat foods in my shopping trolley. The difference in sugar amounts in the full fat compared to low fat or fat free is crazy. We are always being told fat is bad but sugar is the one we should worry about. Keep making the videos , they are so helpful !
emma bridges , yes it's amazing how we can eat the stuff that was told bad for us and actually lose weight, and the stuff we taught was good harm is, I started in late October to December 9,n list 30lbs, relasp on the holidays and just started back but really only gained 5lbs back n feel like crap.
If your trying to lose weight I wouldn’t eat slot of fat just enough till your body tells you too because your going to be burning more of consuming fat then the body fat. Your going to start seeing results but first it’s water weight
Dr Ken i swear your a genious… i couldnt have expected such a perfect explanation with the experiments and trials to back it up. I’ve lost 10 lbs so far going to the gym and doing carnivore diet… im subbing to your channel rn 🙏🏼👏🏼😭
Counting calories works. More so counting macros. Just be consistent. I worked out and counted calories for years.... you will lose weight like clock work as long as you are consistent.
i have been watching your videos for months now and it is so refreshing how you can make things so simple. ever since i went carnivore, primarily for weight loss, i've been obsessed with nutrition and optimal health and you have been a wealth of information. i will most definitely keep watching. CARNIVORE FTW
I use them as a way to track intake. It’s not a perfect system, but I’ve had good results with it. Managing energy balance is they key to me getting very lean or not too fat on a caloric surplus. Just one person’s opinion and experience.
I just love the way you put things! It explains so much better why I’ve tried and failed so bad all the diets I tried in my life. I was counting calories and writing them down like a nut job. Now I do intermittent fasting (24h 3x a week) and I’ve never felt better. I still want to drop some pounds, about 10 or so... but finally I see that it is possible. Thanks so much. Here in Brazil people are still scared of IF. I don’t mind. I educated myself reading and watching RU-vid videos like this.
OMG this video is life changing for me. I've been eating keto and doing IF since March and I've been counting every calorie and carb I've been eating. The only reason is because I have been brainwashed by the medical community and diet industry that you HAVE to count calories in a deficit everyday in order to lose weight. I'm so angry that I've wasted decades of my life doing this only to gain the weight back and start all over again. Today it stops!!!!! Thank you Dr. Berry, you are so awesome!
I agree with you 100%. Obese? Is high insulin (triggered by carbs). Makes a lot of sense. Heck, our ancestors didn't count calories or portion control. Eat until you're comfortably full (fats and protein). Ketovore might be the right diet for me.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around not counting calories. For at least the first 9 months on low carb I didn't even think about calories, or count them. Then hit a tiny stall and have been counting ever since. Turns out that stall was just my body waiting for the monthly woosh. At 15 months I've lost 140 pounds and for the first time hit a stall but I've been staying under 20 carbs and 1400-1600 calories a day. I'm a patient person and not freaking out about it and I know that the stress I've been under lately is most likely the culprit. But.. I'm still counting calories (hard habit to kick)
Are you following a Ketogenic diet? If so, you CAN'T EAT too many calories. You fill before you go beyond your calorie needs. It is carbs that don't get used, they get stored as fat because insulin resistance sets in. And you stay hungry. Add some intermittent fasting too.
bassmaster1953 oh really? So I, a 5'1" woman can eat 4000 calories a day? It's a total myth. Many people have to be careful about calories..I was on keto for about a year and lost nothing. I could eat a burger with cheese, queso and bacon and still be hungry. The total calorie count on that one burger was about 900 calories. My BMR for a day, without any activity is about 1100-1200 calories.
I've never counted calories. Too damned confusing. I focus on serving portions related to my body appearance. It's worked for me 50+ years. Still lean and mean, muscle machine... Great video Dr. Berry. (careful of the AMA)
It's true that counting calories is not a requirement for weight loss. However, for many people, myself included, counting calories is just a tool that works. If somebody doesn't like counting calories or doesn't find it useful then they should not count calories. Should we tell somebody that was 350 lbs and is now 185 lbs that they did something stupid because they counted calories?
I tried Intermittent fasting for 6 months and maybe lost a little weight, but I was working out at the same time. Certainly not nearly the level of weight loss achieved that this guy is suggesting will come. I did 16 hour fasting/8 hour feeding window and was pretty damn consistent with it. I came to the conclusion I was not reducing my calories enough.
Lordy, I went and said this to a friend and she flat out said "and that's why you are fat" ---- Can I PLEASE have permission to knock someone's block off? I can't wait to prove your theory right and shove it in her face. GRR -- Thanks for this information and proposing this concept. I've been eating "to satiety" (yes - still logging what I eat for the net carb count, but I'm NOT looking at the calories at all) and when I looked back over the past 15 days (I've lost 15 pounds in that time -- mostly the swelling/inflammation around my ankles and knees, I suspect), I've eaten WAY more than most people do (between 1700 - 2300 calories) and all these benefits have happened ANYWAY. Obviously, once my body EVENTUALLY gets fat-adapted (WHEN???), my hunger and all will go away and I'll WANT to eat less (right?) and I can finally focus on bringing the fats down. I think. Still studying all this keto stuff. Still wondering if this concept will keep working for me, long-term. ;) Goal is to lose 178.8 pounds so it'll be a while...
That was just a rude comment. But we are all fighting a hard battle that others know nothing about, so try to react with kindness, even if someone else is not capable of doing the same. You know what is working for your body. You don't have to "prove" anything to anyone, except to yourself. Yes, hunger is diminished as one becomes used to burning fat for fuel, as long as carbs and anything sweet is greatly reduced, so the cravings don't return. Someone just told me the other day, carb cravings are like stray cats, if you feed them they will keep coming back. Truer words never spoken! Best of luck!!
I watch Jason Whittrock on RU-vid and he’s been saying calories in/calories out is complete bull. He did a 4,000 cal a day for 21 days challenge. He lost body fat and weight in that 21 days... hmmmmm 🤔
It was a neat experiment, but I think it's a little more complicated (I lost 150lbs keto and am maintaining ideal body weight, btw) than he gives it credit for. JW is a freakin' genetic anomaly I think, or at least has highly attuned his body to using those calories - he was an athlete as a youth and that already sets up your body for different metabolic adaptations for life. Matt from KetoConnect did the same challenge and gained a *bit* of weight and looked bloated as heck. So hmm is right!!
C F I haven’t watched the Keto Connect’s version of the challenge. I work out pretty hard 5-6 days per week and if I eat a lot of food for a few days, I’ll blow up. Everyone is so different!
Just discovered your channel. Really love not only the science but the origins of why we do what we do. Keto is the real deal but people have such a hard time breaking free from the ideas they have held for so long. I'm one of those body types that gains weight and belly fat even in severe caloric restriction. First place I burn fat on keto? Belly and back fat.
I mean, yeah, of course its going to work and take off the weight. But a ton of people, after losing that weight will eventually go back to their old ways. And some people starve themselves just to lose the weight and that isn't sustainable. Eventually the weight will be put back on. I do eye my calorie intake but if I get up to 2,000-3,000 calories I'm still losing weight. Everyone is different so do what works for you and what you're comfortable with. Congrats on the weightloss though!
I'm so glad I found your channel plain talking you dismissed all the fake Keto bashing out there. I just started today after alot of research 3 stone to get to my ideal weight.
I'm stupid too!! I've been counting calories for 8 months and lost over 50lbs. I lowered my cholesterol, I'm no longer obese (which I've been obese for about 15 years). Yeah, I'll keep being stupid and counting my calories.
If you eat in a calorie surplus over an extended period of time and are following keto or fasting you will still put on weight. It still comes down to calories whether you track them or not. Metabolism, NEAT, thermic effect of food all have a role in how many calories you burn. Knowing about metabolic adaptation and the effect your hormones have on feeling hungry is still important to understand for long term health. You are putting out bad information. If keto puts you in a deficit long enough to loose the weight and then you can still maintain it long term then that is great. Anecdotally I know many people who tried keto and or fasting and still continue to yo-yo diet. The fact is that no one can stay in a deficit forever and setting unrealistic weight loss goals will set you up for failure. It's finding balance after you cut the weight you want to loose. You don't get to straw man calories in vs calories out. Extremely disingenuous to say 99.9% of people who calorie count don't maintain a healthy weight.
I withstood the holiday season. I lost weight instead of gaining with intermittent fasting and fasted training. I still enjoyed eating what I want but in moderation. I'm learning a lot from your videos.
Good for you. Counting calories is still not the most reliable way for sustainable weight loss. It works initially. You may know how many calories you are eating but you have no idea how many calories your body is consuming.
I love listening to your advice. You tell it like it is. Stupid calorie counters! Have chatted with American Diabetes Association and told them they are so full of bad info and will not follow them!
So true about the hormone statement. It took a nutritionist to alert me to a weak master gland or endocrine gland issue I have... 41 years (at that time). Almost a life time. I know you’re spot on because now eating ketogenic, I am satisfied at 2 or some days, 1 meal a day, especially after my fast days.
Stupid or not, you won't lose weight unless you are in calories deficit..for those who are saying they lost weight without counting calories doesn't mean you were not in calorie deficit..keto and IF didn't make you lose weight, being in a deficit did
What do you recommend for competitive bodybuilders who, allegedly, need to consume x amount of protein, carbs, and fat to bulk-up and lean out? I’ve been flip-flopping with whether I want to try keto or not because what you suggest basically contradicts everything I thought I knew about building and maintaining lean muscle. Love the videos! Keep me coming!
TheGhost of JohnMordaunt he’s been in my feed for a while! Just having a hard time with making the switch because I love fruit, particularly ripe and sugary bananas.
At first I was skeptical as I watched the videos. What convinced me was not the video, but the many comments below his videos that reported amazing results. Instead of sending videos, you might try this. Find 3 or 4 amazing comments and send an email with those comments. Ask them if they think the comments are fake. Ask them if they think the comments are made by people lying to themselves. Point out that there are hundreds of such comments below Dr. Berry's many videos. If you do this and it works, please let me know by replying here. Thanks.
