My top 10 list 1 - Turing Machine 2 - Mind MGMT 3 - Final Girl 4 - Food Chain Magnat 5 - Brass Brimingham 6 - Terraforming Mars 7 - U Boot 8 - This War Of Mine 9 - Wasteland Express Delivery 10 - Black Sonata
I really hope to get Mind MGMT out more. Such a good game. Easily the best hidden movement game I've played. Black Sonata is also so damn cool. Fully agree on that one. Most of the others I want to play but haven't gotten a chance to yet. 👍
Ha when you were talking about "beat your own score" solo games, I immediately thought of Super Skill Pinball as a great example of a beat-your-score done well (and thematically that's really all Pinball is anyway). So glad it made your list!
Let me preface this by saying #TeamJeff, but it gives me so much joy to hear Jamie talk about solo games! Jamie we WILL play Marvel Champs together one of these days darn it! And I will bring a fun custom deck for ya. So many of these games are on my wishlist: Overboss, 3 Sisters, Ugly Gryphon Inn (on my shelf of shame), Town 66, Friday.
First of all Reggie.. what is your wife's name because I'm gonna have to be on her team then... haha OMG I would so love to play Marvel Champions with you!
Great video! I really like that you mentioned games that I've never heard of. I now have some research to do! I've been hesitant to go with Final Girl, but you've convinced me to go with season 2 once it's going to be more available!
Just got final girl season 2, and so far i completely agree. I actually enjoy the setup, it kind of sets the scene and gets me in the mind set. Also, i can confirm star trek super skill pinball is also hella fun! Great list, thanks!
I won Friday the very first time I played it and thought, "This isn't so hard to win." I've played it about a dozen more times since then and lost every time. I may never win again!
No solo games list is complete without Hadrian's wall! Garphill games have their own campaign, which you can play through, making it an awesome experience. I know you don't usually love games where you beat your previous scores, but the campaign adds extra goals and challenges that I think will make up for it!
I love Final Girl. That said, for the past few years I bust out Zombicide: Night of the Living Dead on Halloween. I also play the movie at the same time as background noise.
Right there with you on Final Girl, Jamie! I was late to the party and missed the Series 1 Kickstarter, but eventually got all of the films (bought my last 3 and the storage box at PAX U), and I COULD NOT be more excited for Series 2! I went all in this time; can't wait!!
Did you try Mechanical Beast? Love the art work on that too and the theme actually comes through very well in this unique and sort of relaxing puzzler... You can play with more people, but solo is where the game really shines...
If you haven't tried it, I actually really like to play Earth solo (and competitive, so that makes up for the box size). Gaia is quite difficult to beat. I also don't like "just beat your own score" solo games. Gaia's AI is quite nice in that your choices influence Gaia's score and vice versa.
The publisher requested that a farmer named Kate should be added to the game but the designer said no. The reason being that you can't have your Kate and Edith, too.
Most of your favorite Button Shy games here are ones I haven't played yet, but look forward to trying eventually! My favorite solo games at the moment, in no certain order, are: Grove, Orchard, Agropolis, Sprawlopolis, Tussie Mussie, Gentle Rain, Birds of a Feather, Three Sisters, and Fleet. Town 66 is good but I've only solo'd once so it doesn't earn a spot on the list yet. I've also been playing Evergreen solo on BGA but haven't tried it solo in person. I'm hoping to branch out into some heavier solo games this year and would love to see continued solo content from you!
After dozens of plays I finally got to where I was beating Friday pretty consistently. I haven’t played in years, so I’m guessing I would be back at square 1. For me: 1. Mage Knight - Far and away the best. 2. Too Many Bones (two handed) 3. Voidfall 4. Roads and Boats 5. Gaia Project 6. Gloomhaven 7. 1862 8. Arkham Horror LCG 9. Robinson Crusoe 10. Onirim I need to play a lot of other solo games.
Welcome!! (Chants of "One of us! One of us!" in the background :)) Spirit Island...Andrew Pfister games like Maracaibo or GWT...ah...so many...it truly is the AGE OF SOLO with so many great games for solo players! Nicely done on the video and look forward to more! Maybe while you are filming...Jeff will start playing solo games upstairs :P
Really great video Jamie! I knew of some of these games but I have really been loving solo games this past year so I am excited to try some of these, especially town 66, looks really cool!
Love Overboss solo campaign. I just bought all of season 1 of Final Girl and all the extras, just waiting for all that to be shipped. My Ugly Gryphon Inn w/ all expansions and ragemore just shipped too. I got a lot of solo gaming ahead of me.
Absolutely love playing Overboss solo. Wonder if the digital version will change the need to get out the physical copy though Coincidentally, Jamie playing Overboss solo was one of the first videos we saw from you
I love Town 66! Solo, multi-player, all of it. Coffee Roaster, Mr. Cabbagehead's Garden (is so weird), Grove, and Pocket Master Builder are some other favorites.
@@FostertheMeeple Quick question: You have Marvel Champions and Arkham Horror the Card Game on your list. If you had to pick just one, which would you choose?
This is awesome!! It’s funny, because I’m curating my own list for a similar video, but not I have more I need to look up and play!! Rove looks delightful, as does Town 66!
Love your #1 choice! :-D A huge favorite of mine, as well. Have you ever tried Nemo's War? It's a longer one, but is really excellent. It technically has a co-op mode, but it is really made as a solo game. Black Sonata is another very clever solo one I can recommend to try. :-)
Really good list. I really need to play Buttonshy games some time. Friday and Super Skill Pinball would 100% be in my list. Easily. I'm not super opposed to score chasing style but I do agree that I like fighting the game more. I really love when designers make a nice AI for enemies. Some examples would be like with *Darwin's Journey,* there is a list of things on each card that the opponent will do. If not possible, they do the next until the only option is something they can universally do. The AI in *Vinhos* is pretty funny because it's supposed to be Vital Lacerda and they'll just break game rules because they can. *Archipelago* is my favorite game of all time and it has a dedicated solo mode that's a deck of card you can buy with nice setups and objectives. It's quite enjoyable. It's amazing to me that every👏 single👏 player count is enjoyable in Archipelago (I don't know if I could say that about any other 1-5 player count game or most games in general). Shame it's too complicated for my family to enjoy.
Thank You Jamie! I play solo most of the time. I will have to order some button shy games! I have never won Friday! You need a frog to eat that fly! 😆🐸
Great video! I have been wanting to look into solo gaming and have Ugly Gryphon Inn and Town 66 on my wish list! (thanks to you guys, that list is a mile long!). Can't wait to try them!
Awesome list! I struggle soloing if there is a lot of setup. Maybe we need to remember we are worth it...or we're just lazy. I dunno. Anyway, I went all in for a final Girl and can't freakin' wait!
I've got lots of these and love them all! I don't have any of the button shys or overboss, but everything else I have and love! For me I try to find things that are solo only (which is getting easier thank goodness) only because I feel like then all the care and effort is put into it and it's not just oh here's a 2-5 player game and oh yeah we will tack on at the end a solo mode to beat your own score or something if that makes sense.but I ALSO want something that isn't a huge set up and tear down (not because I'm not worth it, I so am) but because I wanna get to the game and enjoy it and not stress about setting it up or having to take it down when I'm done. Final girl is my most favorite game. I'm a "seasonal" boardgame player where there are only certain games I wanna play during certain seasons..but final girl is my exception to that I want to play that anytime anywhere. Usually I lean towards RAWs for soloing because it's usually a super easy setup plus that is my favorite genre? Of game so I have tons. I love bargain basement bathysphere right now. Solo only RAW..I mean c'mon, my bread and butter right there! If only there was a way to play dice throne solo...hmm..
Ohhh I have bargain basement bathysphere I just haven't played it yet! I would agree, I really do enjoy playing a game that was designed to be played solo, I find Button Shy so great for that!
I love buttonshy games !!!! Great list. I did not enjoy Friday it just was not fun for me, so I gave it away. I enjoy Triplock, gentle rain, warps edge, under failing skies, calico solo
I haven't tried the campaign mode for Overboss, I will need to check that out! I've been playing a lot of Marvel Unite Solo recently, it's extremely light and quick to table, a theme I enjoy, and quick to play/table. Basically exactly what I am looking for after a hard work day.
Hey! Nice list and great video! Which FF do you recommend the most for Final Girl? I finallybdecided to pickup the core and a couple of FF but I can’t decide since they all look amazing!
Jamie here! I would say for a beginner pick up Camp Happy Trails from Season 1 or Once upon a Full Moon from Season 2. But I did do a whole video ranking the sets if interested!
I read need to get on these button shy games and get my hands on town 66. Waiting for my copy of Final Girl to get here. Received an email the other day and seems like it’s getting close. Which one is you favorite from season 1? Also, I enjoy the fight with that heifer farmer Edith.
Completely with you on Final Girl.....but FRIDAY??!!?! Argh! I just don't get it. I've now officially played it about 30,000 times and I still don't quite see the appeal. I *KNOW* it's a quality game....but for some reason, I dislike Robinson Crusoe even more than Friday (evidently) does. I'm actually ROOTING for the pirates to win every time I play it.
@Foster the Meeple if I remember correctly, since the game is already kinda multiplayer solitaire, the solo mode just pulls I'm another player's deck so you have options for the tetris shapes, market options, etc. I just love the combo nature of it all!
P.S. Unrelated to this game, some of my other fav solo experienced are Apotheca (spatial deduction game), Sagrada, and Legendary Encounters (Alien, Predator, etc.).
Funny story, Spirit Island is one of the first games we added to our collection and we didn't like it and sold it, but it has come up so many times now about being a great solo game I kinda wanna get it back!!
I am interested in Final Girls board game but where do I start there seems to be so many expansions. I am not sure what I need to buy because the base game needs an expansion to play right? I don't want to spend 200+ on the whole game incase I don't like it.
No too many bones!?! This list lacks all credibility!!!! But great list. I’ve been branching out to solo games lately and need some that play quick. Sprawlopolis has been my go to when I just want to play something quick. This give me some ideas from what we have to try solo
