Designer Trish Johnston knew she wanted a modern vibe when she bought a fixer-upper in Bancroft, Ontario. The home was full of mismatched wood and aging appliances. See how she transformed this cottage with rustic accents like a stone backsplash while adding a touch of minimalist shine. The gleaming kitchen island is a single slab of white HanStone Quartz, perfectly complemented by a warm Real Cedar ceiling. How will you keep a stone backsplash clean? I cook everything from scratch and wash my backsplash tiles almost everyday.

I personally think that throwing away all the old cabinets etc was not needed. We have seen so many videos of others, austin flipsters, xomacenna, lonefox, and more, where they actually utilize old stuff to create something new and refreshing. throwing everything in the dumpster is not always a good thing. Anyways, the work looks good and I hope that it turned out well. Now going to watch the second part of the video. Thanks.

Can the stone be sealed with a product? It would be awfully difficult to maintain it if food we’re to splatter on it. But it does look beautiful. It’s my favorite feature of the kitchen.

Yes, you CAN seal all of it, including the cement. I’ve done it so I know.

Quartz is non porous making it very durable and easy to maintain. Quartz does not require any sealing. In fact, sealing will harm your quartz surface.

During the reno they were replacing the ceiling. Trashing those stupid ceiling tiles which was a good idea. But I liked the ceiling exposed much more I must say.

Nice job. I sure hope that things that could be donated to home recycled materials were, such as kitchen cabinets and doors, flooring, etc. No way should that sort of thing be thrown away so it goes in a landfill! It was all put in a dumpster, which is not a good sign of what happened to it.
