Always loved this album. Country Joe's understated voice is just perfect for this selection of songs, which for me surpass many of the original versions and arrangements. Superb musicians. Although in this period many rock musicians took to country rock, most of the rock guys lacked the chops, dexterity and subtlety to play country music in a polished way. This is more straight country - just superb. Grady Martin one of my favourite guitar players - his work on Buffy Sainte Marie's equally fantastic Nashville album 'I'm Gonna Be A Country Girl Again', also recorded around this time is sublime as it is also here.

Recorded at Bradley's Barn ... Hargus Robbins and the gang. The best studio musicians that ever lived!

One of my favorite albums during the 1970s and 80s. Still sounds great. I love the album cover too.

I found out about this album because of Country Joe's Woody Guthrie album which I just bought. Although I'm not really a "country music" fan, this is fantastic.

Many of us are also folk and country fans. Heck I play psychedelic rock and bluegrass.

this is a surprise and very nicely done. who knew the old hippie had this in him. hope i find some more of this.

My late wife and I played the grooves off this record then got another copy. Still know most of the lyrics to every song. We loved it and I used some lyrics from Friend, Lover, Woman, Wife at her life celebration. She was all of those to me.

Hal Rugg gives a regular seminar on steel playing on this album!!!! An indelible influence for me.
