Countryside walk to LADYBOWER Reservoir [Peak District England]  

Pleasant and easy walk through the countryside until I reached LADYBOWER Reservoir [Peak District England], I used bus 272 from Sheffield which dropped me off near the entrance to the Torhnhill & Yorkshire Bidge trail in Hope Valley, I walked the trail and passed through Tornhill Carrs Nature Reserve and continued enjoying nature until Ladybower Reservoir. The walk lasted around 40 minutes (stopping and admiring) then I went close to Bamford Edge, but I was short on time to catch the train back home, so I took bus 257 to Sheffield (at the Yorkshire Bridge Hotel bus stop) . Bamford Edge will remain for the next tour.

In the heart of the Peak District National Park lies Ladybower Reservoir, a large Y-shaped reservoir in the Upper Derwent Valley. The construction of the reservoir took place between 1935 and 1943, and it was officially inaugurated by King George VI on September 24, 1945.
The long, deep valley and narrow points ideal for dam construction made Ladybower an attractive location for water storage. Coupled with high average rainfall, low population density, and significant water demand from the industrial towns around the Peak District, these factors solidified the need for the reservoir.
In the 1990s, the Dam's wall was heightened and reinforced to mitigate the risk of 'over-topping' during a major flood.
