SIMPLY put...he's part of the team that "shakes" down units to find any contraband. special operations makes it seem like berks "COUNTY" jail....is a federal penitentiary lol. and NO this isn't a comment making fun of this gentleman or the correctional field. it just struck me as odd that a county jail would have a group of "special" operations officers.
Well you’d be surprised. State and county corrections have teams that go to houses, conduct raids, investigations, arrests etc within the prison system and with cases involved with the prison system. It’s why they also have shit like Gang intelligence. Some state departments across the US designate investigators as Agents rather than officers and they are plainclothes officers, similar to jump-out boys. They do shit like buy-busts to bust corrupt corrections officers, go out with SWAT, search for inmates, emergency response, etc. Now Federal BOP SORT (special operations response team) get trained and do some more interesting shit from what I’ve heard. But county corrections in many high-population counties across the US have SOG, CERT, Gang intel, etc. and a lot of specialized units. Some mostly do shakedowns and search, but anything can happen inside and outside the walls that they are trained to deal with depending on the state. In my state we don’t have LEOSA and can’t make arrests or carry off-duty without a CCW, but in a few counties the corrections deputies have full police powers and longer academies than the state. My academy is 6 weeks, but some have 10-14 weeks if they are trained for more than the jail. Since my county has the corrections department, sheriff’s office, and PD all separate, a lot of the duties done by the sheriff’s office in smaller counties are done by the detention department and police department, and the deputies focus on warrants and court duties. It all depends where you are.
