You two are awesome!!! I live in Toronto Canada and I previously had a Mirage 27 on which I lived aboard and sailed the Great Lakes. I plan to "escape" from traditional lifestyle to the Caribbean for a start in the near future hopefully. Then the Globe awaits. Thanks again as you are so "down to earth and REAL" :)

im getting a 3 in one heater dehumidifier and air conditioner, on kijji im paying 75 cents a watt canadian so im buying four 335 watt panels and a 400 watt wind to power eight 6volt batteries to hold over 2000 amp hours plus im integrating a 10 kw electrick motor onto the shaft past the transmission so i can have backup for my diesel engin but plan on using the electrical

Hi. Nice boat you got. I live in Denmark in a kylix 27. I'll tell you what i do to get a dry and warm boat. My boat is a lot more primitive than yours. Get insulation mats, Rockwool in plastic, it's called winter mats... Put these all over the deck, really everywhere. If you want to go out sailing, they are easy to roll up. Insulate the hull with EVA mats, some you can buy with aluminium on one side. Just glue it with double-sided tape to the hull. It prevents mould on your things. Or just store things away from the hull. I had a wood stove. It's good to keep the boat dry, but it is not healthy. Particles inside are bad for health. Even if you got the best stoves, you can't prevent it. I lived in glass fibre, steal, now wood. Wood is to prefer. But of course, if you insulate the others, they are as good as well. Also, there's fero cement, but I never lived on one. They have to be insulated, so I guess they are pretty good. Steal is the same. I lived in Sweden and Denmark in my boats. It is really just insulation that makes the difference. And keep the air flow through the boat. Winter should be cozy in the boat. And it is not difficult or very expensive to make it that way. Happy sailing :-)

It does cheap to liveaboard, I once liveaboard a 35 footer for 600 a month, with plenty of free time to sail, now I bought a house and have to work crazy busy like a dog, spend thousands monthly to pay for the mortgage and land tax and the endless house maintenance.

On another point; you said that there's only 35 feet for separation in the event you need to be away from each other; I've heard that catamarans can allow one person to be in one hull while the other person is in the other hull. Thoughts on this?

Marine technician pro tip: Keep your sat phone in either the oven or microwave. These appliances provide the best chance of having a working sat phone in the event of a lightning strike, when everything else on the boat is fried (including vhf/gps)

Great vid you guys!! What are the actual costs of living on a sailboat I've been wanting this life style for many years. I've done a pile of research and this topic always eludes me. It can't be as expensive as owning a house lol.? Or is it?

genius, downsizing to "rightsize". 35 feet for two people seems very manageable.

Good advice, but think about the end game. What about when you are older. You have not got on the property ladder. When you are finished with boat life, you have no house, and no capital!
@Differentmedia
@Differentmedia 6 лет назад
they wouldn't have to worry much for 30+ years, and by then most likely would adapt appropriately
@fuzzyspork
@fuzzyspork 6 лет назад
You assume their end game involves owning property - It's a rabbit hole that so many people go down, chasing something that ultimately means they can't afford to live the life they would like otherwise live. We all only get one go at this whole life thing and we should all do our best to do it right. Owning a home doesn't bring happiness, having a fantastic life does. I completely understand that to some, happiness is a home full of people and things, to others it's adventures and experiences. Fortunate is the person who can afford both. These guys are living in BC, the home of the $3,000,000 bungalow. They have a boat, an adventure, and each other. They're miles ahead of most of the world!

Forrest Stevens I'm sure living in a boat enables them to save money they would be spending living in a house. That soon adds up year on year to a tidy sum.
