I had one .. Kept it about month. I liked those days of the big "base" radios. Wish they was more companies building them. A lot of them had the looks but not performance. Rebuilding them with a new board is a great idea. Doesn't look like there is much room for a freq-counter, but it would be nice feature. The problem with amplifiers nowadays is about all of them are built for the mobile market and need / use external power supplies. I like the base amps. Just plug them in the wall and done. I had a small amp for years (like 250 out on AM) .. It plugged in the wall and worked great. I wish I would have kept it now. A new board and building an amplifier & power supply inside would be awesome.
