Nice reaction.... apart from the 'generational' comment at the beginning :). I'm 68 and have been following Ren since I first heard Hi Ren months ago. The benefit of my age is that I've seen music innovation all my life, and didn't think there was any uncovered ground......... until I heard Ren! The Big Push video's are also incredible. Personal favourite is Paint it Black (Rolling Stones cover) where Ren actually shreds a bass guitar! Also his collaborations with Chinchilla who is another incredible independent artist. 'Chalk Outlines' (live version) is hauntingly beautiful. Also Chinchilla solo video of 'Fingers' (live version). Good luck going solo, although I quite enjoyed the Office Blokes React reactions, I've subscribed.... hopefully you won't boot me out because of my age! 🤣😂
Ash is delightful. She has wonderful insights into the meaning of the songs she reviews, and, wow, she must have a huge music library! She makes so many associations with other songs and artists even as she's listening. That's genuinely informative, and I appreciate it a lot. Gives me ideas for new people to listen to. In that vein, and since you two liked Ren so much, here's a suggestion for another performance that is both beautiful and powerful and is also about mental illness: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dGEjbJkxFhs.html I highly recommend it.
The other office blokes reaction to this song was so bizzare to me. Its not generational either, plenty of people older than them are hit by the beauty of this performance.
I'm 59 and I'm obsessed with Ren and watching reaction videos to Ren. I absolutely love music, but have never encountered anyone like Ren! He is a gift!! Much love! ❤
I was never a rap fan but Ren has pulled me in completely. I think there's a new genre of music just called Ren. He blends so many kinds of music together with theater. He embraces topics that help people. Good on him.
Hola! Fancy seeing you here! I'm the same as you. I'm not a huge rap fan either, but I've been stuck in the Ren rabbit hole since mid March, and I'm still totally sucked in. I don't like half the genres that he has covered usually, but somehow I end up loving everything he's done. Maybe it's voodoo. It's a mystery 😅
@Immi-1 hahaa, yeah, I totally get what you mean. I've given up trying to describe how or why I love this dude, and have conceded that he's basically a genius. And on top of all the lyrical and musical talent, he just brings out my maternal instincts so strongly it's like he's my own kid. I've seen that across the board, too. So many people feel like he's part of their family. Just a phenomenal and genuine artist AND human being. I've seen you around a few channels, so it's nice to say 'hello'. I'm sure I'll see you again. It's like a pilgrimage, this Ren rabbit hole. Lots to discover, and more and more people joining the journey ❤️

Great reaction Ash. I think you’re mean leaving her with one song I couldn’t cope. I truly believe Ren is the greatest artist across any generation breaking all boundaries of genres and subjects that matters. Raw emotion for us all to heal from pain. Defo need to show her Jenny and screetch Full version.
Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Erin Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990; he eventually moved to Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue; subsequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada, for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel; if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Ren's YT channel has less than 1 million subscribers, while his videos have garnered millions and millions of views. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to the world, and his work is important in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available.
Not Bristol hun. Brighton, so Ash was closer 😂 He does sound more like a Londoner. He himself says his accent is a hybrid of different ones. Ash is amazing. Hope you do lots more Ren with her. But I'm sure that she is now completely hooked, as all of us are on this young man's genius. Thankyou, take care 😊
Fab ! My smiles matched yours. Dont you dare listen to Ren without us watching lol. Can Ren Rap ?oh my haha. Sure the next requests will flow so ill observe from the shadows
Hey Dave, fellow musician from the US here. Glad you reacted to this on your own channel. The other office blokes, especially Daz didn't seem to care much for it lol. Personally, as an artist myself, I'm blown away by it. I think it's one of the greatest pieces art that I have seen in some time. Not everyone's going to get it, but for those of us who do, it's amazing!
This is a Masterpiece of Art. The therapeutic message this can and Will have on millions of people is the greatest legacy Ren will leave behind. This piece of art should be used and shown in psychiatric treatment and mental health clinics all over the world. The way Ren portray and deliver this inner struggle visually, sonically and lyrically are so good that no matter what walk of life we come from or how severe our struggles may be, every single human being on the planet can relate to this on some level. His ability to transform the personal inner struggle and show with a biblical archetype how it is part of the human condition across all of time really cuts straight into the soul. I'm not a religious person by any standard, but the message is so undeniably accurate and true that you can't but tear up when you realize the scope of the tragedy that is our human condition. It's a hard thing to accept, but when we do life becomes easier.
I enjoyed your joy, your smile, your honesty..now you can alternate with I shot the Sheriff (long version), The Hunger, Bittersweet Symphony, Story of Jenny Screech and Violet..hope to see you 2 soon :) and Dave it'q not a matter of age: I'm seventy..
Lol if words drive people away they prob won't get much from ren anyway.. Rather than a genre I usually describe him as an artist who plays different instruments and can sing and rap.. obv he can do more but that description is enough to get my peoples to take a chamce on him.
@@beesmitty3435 it's not so much the words specifically but the suggestions that ren is the first and old artist to ever play multiple instruments , have different performing styles and combine theater with music
I'm glad you took the advice to the song! Your genuine emotion is what people LOVE. No one on who is watches reactions for the right reasons thinks that is annoying... (before seeing the reaction) 11:06 Ren is a CHAMELEON! Also, NO! You cannot add him to your playlist! The order is reaction THEN playlist! Can't wait to see more! 17:54 That is what is great. You do not have to be musically inclined to know when something is truly special and made you feel something in a unique way. You have a terrible poker face and are very empathic. That makes you great for this and people like me who relive a first time experience with someone else who made us feel something we try to capture again ;)... Love the reaction!
Subbed for the whole Ash discovering Ren journey! She has such a pleasant demeanor. Follow up with Losing It or The Hunger, then Big Push stuff and Chinchilla…it’s amazing how much he gave us to pick and choose from. 🔥🔥🔥
Ash, it's a Ren reaction. You're allowed to just sit there and absorb all that is Ren. As you go down the Ren Rabbit-Hole you will get to meet Chinchilla (and that's another whole new world to explore) Dave, have the tissues handy when you get to Jenny and Screech
This song needs the highest award possible and an Oscar for the authenticity, the lyrics and delivery. I haven't heard something like that for years. Music is dying.
Kind of had to laugh at this...I'm from USA & 65 yrs old& my Daughter turned me on REN 5 months ago & went down REN rabbit hole & Ren reactions since...BUT I turned on a BFF I've had for 30 yrs on to him shortly after my daughter turned me on...she spent 4 yrs in UK about 17 yrs ago 2 yrs London & 2 in Brighton...She went down rabbit hole too && Knew the Brighton views...her Fav ones of picutures of it any that feature the pier!!
Good call, Dave, bringing Ash in. I watched her eyes the whole time, and could tell she really, really listened and watched. Thanks, Ash, you rock. Thanks, Dave.
Dave, if the other office guys didn't get the 'Hi Ren' message or enjoy it then they are about as deep as the fake wood veneer on the office desks. Ash is pure gold, love her reactions.
I watched office blokes from like 1.3k... That sucks if that channel is down. You guys introduced me to tons of new stuff. Anyways you seem to be doing well and you got a hell of a girl beside you. Keep it up
Ren is therapy for so many from one song he helps so many people open up in ways therapists struggle to do in person. We as consumers and fans of his music and his message need to push his channel he should have millions of subs on his channel this is a crime he's saves people with his music or at least helps them by them opening up and talking
That was a great reaction. Loved seeing the smile on your face. Mostly watched US reactors to this one, so nice to see fellow Brits enjoy this and get the humour in it. Good stuff
Dave, Thank you for reacting to this again. The reaction with the other 2 blokes was awful. I actually unsubscribed from TOB after that reaction. I've always been a big fan of yours so I'm glad you have your own channel. You 2 are adorable. Keep up the good work.
TOB should really stick to comedy that's where they shine. Part of the problem with reactions channels is the fans, so many fans just demand all their favorite reactors react to everything they like. Reaction channels were made for and at their best when they react to what the reactors love. Not that they shouldn't listen to their fans to find new things but keep it relative to their passions. So many popular reactors have mid reacts to hi ren while so many tiny little channels have the most profound reacts to it.
For me, this isn't a song for the car. Ren's acting is top notch and really feels like a huge part of this piece of art. By all means, enjoy it any way you want. If you want to introduce it to friends though, I would strongly suggest the video so they get the "whole package".
Thank you for doing this one again! I really don't get how the other 2 missed the mark so badly with this one. I'm old too and I think this is brilliant so they have no excuses haha! Also love you having some company here as well.
loved your reaction. It appears to me that while many people come around after listening, there's a huge divide between people who listen to music to find what's familiar and comforting, and those who are always listening for what is interesting - ie, different. Ren, of course, is always top quality, but he challenges expectations and his work isn't "comfortable." I'm obsessed. Love his work. Your smile said everything. And you've only just begun. You are going to have so much fun!
So, I think 'Hi Ren' resonates with anyone that has experienced mental health problems, we just couldn't put it into words or music like Ren does. For some people, it's a great song, for others, driven to tears because it encompasses the feeling to perfection.
Very recent drum and bass track by venbee called gutter also has a ren remix, there is also a drum and bass version of genesis by ren which is out. Spotify randomly introduced me to ren with that track on my release radar
I be mostly obsessed with two genres....Maid Rock and Ren. One risen from the east and the other settled on the ocean floor...off Anglesey or Brighton, im not sure.
I was into you guys before you even started the video. Absolutely subscribed. Also, I’m 53 years old and this song tears me up (you can read “tears” in both of it definitions and it works either way) every time. And I’ve watched it probably 50 times and maybe more. I don’t know if it’s an age gap or lived experience, or what. But I don’t think it’s an age thing, but I will have to go back and watch your other video. in any case I’m only seven minutes in and you guys are absolutely awesome. She has the best reaction I could hope for (and her voice reminds me a little of Natasha Khan from Bat for Lashes, who is one of my favorite artists ever). She really gives a shit. And dude does too. I really love this. I’m gonna shut up now.
Fun reaction video y’all! It fun watching someone see Hi Ren for the first time … I have watched every reaction video that I can find … it’s my new hobby … have fun going down the Ren rabbit hole … you should do some more of Rens stuff or The Big Push … I know y’all will like Jenny & Screech Peace ❤
I'm older than the other two office blokes almost put together. And even I understand this and one of the greatest songs of this century. So I don't know what that mess was about on the other channel.
I believe you're mistaken when you said it may be a age thing when it comes to appreciating Rens music, I'm older then dirt and feel every note..maybe life experiences?
So fun fact ren is not guitar trained he is self taught and learned from RU-vid videos. So bit of back story if you don't know ren was misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar and other illnesses so was fed wrong medications until he was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease.
thanks to JensRandolff ( comments below ) for the Ren bio: my thoughts --- Ren is still in treatment ( maybe for the rest of his life ) & has a GoFundMe account to help pay staggering medical bills -- the Pig is a butcher, Ren's opinion of many doctors and therapists....the discordant vocals and guitar symbolize his internal chaos, as do the blinking lights....."Truth in a blender, Deceitful Pretender".........
As a 45yo grandad I can assure you age bears no relation to understanding, appreciating and being touched by the music of Ren. I have no shame on admitting his music has changed me in ways I did not believe was possible. FOR JOE, wrecks me every time.
Welcome to Ash, great reaction. I would love to see you guide her down the Ren Rabbit hole. I don't think Ren is a generational artist, I am 62 and I love his music. I have seen comments from teenagers and people in their 70's and 80's who love him.
Fabulous reaction! I love this trend of reactors introducing new people to Ren. Just underlines what a phenomenal artist he is ❤ Yes! Bring Ash back for more Ren! I think 'The Hunger' might be a good one to go with next as she seemed super excited about the fact he can rap 😊 I don't think it's a generational thing, by the way. Ren's fans range from pre-teens to people in their 80's. Some people get it, some don't, and that's ok. But for the people who DO get it, it's a beautiful thing. ❤
