A few things to comment. First, “little girl” is not meant to be taken literally in this song. It’s obviously talking about his woman. At the time of this performance, Stevie had gotten sober .In the performances you’ve reacted to where he is sweating buckets and seems to be on another planet, that is definitely mind bending amounts of cocaine. Before and during shows he would continue downing whisky with cocaine mixed in. He was a real fiend, and it was intense to witness. It was beautiful to see the change when he got sober and happy. He used to always mention “living on borrowed time.” After seeing him find balance and happiness in sobriety, it was devastating to het the news of his death.

Could literally be a little girl, little and girl doesn't mean adolescent. The term has been used throughout the history of music by many artists. When I was young the age of consent was 13 in parts of the US and elsewhere.

Right on. While I enjoy the kinda magic and energy of of those performances, it's hard to watch in a way. His sober performances are cleaner, and I enjoy watching them knowing he's healthier and happier.

@@pablozee6359 don't think I missed the point, ..what kept him from hurting him, her the other guy and was manhood.., not culture not macho shit, he turned away, probably 3 months down the road full of heartache and mer someone completely different ....unlike today's cowards , snowflake, entitled little pussys that have to take out her , the kids, the crossing guards , the lunch lady, the bus drivers, cuz their little tiny narcissist heart got broken....Cry me a damn River

Seriously? If you knew ANYTHING about Stevie, and his music, you would know that he was singing about his GIRLFRIEND getting harassed by another man, calling her house and flirting with her. Stevie busted him by picking up on the other extension. He also got killed in a Helicopter crash, and he had been at least 4 years clean when he sang this song. Please do some research BEFORE you say things about our HERO. He is America's G.O.A.T. AND SOMEONE WE ARE VERY PROUD OF AND MISS VERY MUCH.

Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1985 got clean off the drugs. If you listen to the live without you after 1985 in the middle of the song he gives a testimony how he got clean off the drugs and he hopes that other people could to. How he died was in a helicopter crash. He also had one son.😢

Stevie was clean during during that particular time, he was reformed. He died in a helicopter crash, not from drugs. The cocaine song Eric Clapton performed was written by JJ Cale, who was great in his own right. He wrote several songs that were covered by Eric Clapton and others. Ya'll might want to do some research before your reactions.

Just to clarify. SRV was clean and sober at the time of this performance, which was shortly before his untimely death, making it even more tragic. The song was my favorite off of the last Double Trouble album, and when I saw him perform on a double headlining tour with Jeff Beck, this was the one he pulled out all the stops on, playing the solo behind his back. You cite Eric Clapton's version of Cocaine as being a drug song, but it was written in a very sarcastic way by JJ Cale. Not a glorification of the drug, but cautionary.

I don't know if you knew that Stevie played 13 gauge strings and would go as heavy as 17 gauge . With you playing guitars you will know those are more like piano wires than guitar strings ! Somehow he was able to do the bends , hammer ons and hammer offs . A lot of other well known guitar players say he had very large and very strong hands . And somehow he still managed to break strings . On one of my guitars , my 48 year old Peavey T 60 is strung with 13 gauge strings . After trying to play it and when putting it up I have to back the strings off . If I leave the tension on , I usually have to adjust the truss bar to get it back flat before I play . One thing that has always stuck in my brain is what Eric Clapton said . He said that while driving his car . One of Stevie's songs came on his radio and he instantly pulled off the road to listen and he had to find out who this guy was ! Also in the same interview he said , Stevie never got lost or hung up , he always knew where he was going and exactly how he was going to get there !! Also there were times when Stevie had to super glue the skin back onto his fingers to finish a show !

Just think, Double trouble used to be Chris Latham on drums (here) Tommy Shannon on bass, (here) Stevie on guitar, (yes he was on cocaine everyday until 1985, 4 years before he died he got sober) and they had a female lead singer in the 70s in Texas.

I was blessed to see him play many times, and even if I didn’t know what year this was I can tell he was clean here. When he was messed up his music actually probably flowed better. When he got clean he unleashed furious bursts of notes, just like he does here. He played some bad shows, if you can believe it, just before he had the breakdown that convinced him he had to clean up. A friend of mine was working the Austin Opera House when they were recording the ‘Live Alive’ album, and he let me in to hear some, and it was not good: loud as hell, out of tune, miscommunication, even dead-ends, which he never does. When he got clean he was gunshy for a while, not sure if he could still play. This video is recorded when he’s been clean for a while and has his confidence back, which unfortunately makes it near the end.

Stevie got sober in 1985, and surprisingly, his playing barely missed a step, some think he got better those last few years, I am not so sure. Tommy Shannon, is his book claimed that the El Mocambo performance was their best on tape. However, SRV almost died an hour before the show, and had medical personnel revive him with lots of IV fluids and vitamins. He was sweating out liters of saline, and pouring out so many extra notes, in that show, he nearly caused a Texas flood.

Did you say he "stole a plane, that's how he died."? SRV died in a helicopter crash. He and several legendary blues guitarists, including Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy, had just finished a concert a little north of Chicago and along with a few others was being flown to Chicago. The investigation concluded it was pilot error (the pilot was not Stevie) who wasn't certified for "instrument" flight. There was heavy fog in the area and the pilot must have become disoriented resulting in the tragic crash.

In interviews when asked to play, Stevie admits, I don't know how to just play. When the band gets behinds me and I get that groove, then I can fall into a song. But just playing in the quiet studio was too "ungroovable". Stevie has no idea what notes he is playing. Like many of the greats, reading music never happened or was abandoned, and everything is played by "feel" or "ear".

Yeah. "Little girl" is a frequent term in music, especially rock and roll. It almost always refers to a girlfriend, not a literal "little girl" as in a girl too young. Of course, the age of consent was very young in some states. When Jerry Lee Lewis went to the UK to perform, there was a big deal made about his 13 year old wife, who just happened to also be his cousin. It was not uncommon for girls to get married at a much younger age back then. It was not considered untoward. An older, more stable, more settled man was desirable as a husband. Having a young daughter get married was usually a plus for her family, socially and sometimes economically. Things are very different now, but young girls can still get married with their parents' consent, usually 16 years old or so.
