lol "batter up" is a term that comes from baseball it essentially means the next person stepping up to the plate to swing the bat, so as to their debut song its them stepping into the kpop scene!
Kpop music from YG is full of hidden messages. When Baby Monster was launched Blackpink 7 year contract with YG was almost at an end. These girls are actually trained and specially selected to replace Blackpink. They each now have more than 5 years training except for Chiquita with only 2 years training. The selection for Baby Monster started as soon as Blackpink debuted 7 years ago. References like Batter up could mean more than just a baseball theme. It can also mean YG saying to Blackpink girls to sign up a new contract because we have your replacements highly trained, super talented and prepared to step onto the plate to bat for you. Batter Up. Blinks are saying copying Blackpink but Blackpink brand is owned by YG. The brand name Lisa Manoban, Lalisa, Jisoo, Jennie Kim, Rose' are all owned by YG.
The baseball references throughout coincide with the message of the lyrics. "Batter Up" means it is their turn to rock the world with their music and they are stepping up to the plate and we are swinging for the fence and it will be a homerun! Especially at the closing chorus when they say, "We're the monsters of the world," "let us show you who we are." there are many references to baseball. In Ruka's rap, she raps the lyrics, "going, going, gone" which is what an announcer would say as the ball flies over the fence. Also in Asa's Korean rap she actually say the word "homerun". They actually start flexing when Rami begins with "I'm on a mission," "Don't need permission," "No matter what I'm gonna make my own decisions." Then Rora says, "I'm talkin you, you want it to." I'm pretty and kind but watch how I turn into a monster." Pharita's, "remember me, sting like a bee." "Like a hungry lion I've got personality." More baseball references...Chiquita says she's "gonna swing away," which means she's being an aggressive batter. She's not lay down a bunt but instead, swinging for the fence. Valen is spot on when she said it is about baseball. They are all swinging hard and then watching the ball as it sails over the fence. Clever writing and choreo. Yes, they have a backtrack which is prominent in this performance. Thank you for your reaction. You are a perfect example of fans that know good music when they hear it even though you you said you don't know about baseball. Thanks so much, Bob
Dream is Baby Monster predebut song. I think YG wants to remix the Dream song into a main single in their album coming up. Not sure why there is a copyright ban still in place but likely still waiting for an official release.
batter-up is a perfect time. If you consider YG as a baseball team then BP is its biggest player and Babymonster is the next upcoming player after BP scored a home run. YG is projecting and introducing BM as the next big player in its line up. I thought the message was so cringe and yet it makes a perfect sense. I hope BM will go far.
I am a faithful Lovebites fan they play power metal all female band from Japan I was never a K-pop fan till I heard the voices of Babymonster and followed their Journey binging Last Evaluation even. I still prefer Lovebites overall though Babymonster is my K-pop exception I will follow and have shared also from Korea love the K-rock band Rolling Quartz Jayoung can sing my favorites though Bassist Arem and Guitarist Hyunjung.
Great reaction...try some of their individual performances, there are 7 short ones in black and white which you could easily cover in 1 reaction vid and there are 7 colour ones that came after.
