Also Americans emphasise vowels a lot more. You said "prOtractor" emphasising the O, we just say protractor not emphasising any specific vowels. You guys say "antI" emphasising the I and we just say anti, every letter gets the same importance. We say the vowels in words the way we sound them out when learning the alphabet which sound different than if you just say the letters AEIOU. You guys say a lot of vowels more like you're saying the letters which is just a difference in how you learnt to use the alphabet.

You guys talk so much that you missed have of the things they were talking about , and that too without pausing… SMH

It's not the "r" that's pronounced differently Steph it's the vowels before it. In every accent that English is natively spoken the main difference is how the vowels are pronounced, that's what makes the words sound different. We pronounce the rr in Harry the same way you do, it's the "a" before it you pronounce differently. The one exception is Americans don't pronounce double d's in the middle of words properly, you pronounce them like double t's. I can't tell you how many American authors I've read that write a woman "shuttered" which makes no sense but they assume the d's in shuddered are tt's because of the way it's pronounced in the US. The name Katy is another example. In the US people say Kady which is mispronouncing the name. The bottom line is the way we learn to sound out the letters of the alphabet as children in the UK and US is different, especially the vowels.
