This type of tutorials help me a lot to understand the system. Thanks a lot and please upload more videos regarding the coupling efficiency of fiber.

This video is great. I wish I would have found it a few months earlier. You should definitely do more tutorials like this.

It would be better if you could tell us the effective focal length of the lens and the mode field diameter of the fiber

Does anyone know where one could find the "coupler" that he used, e.g. on Thorlabs or Newport?

Hi! thanks for the nice demos in optics. if you want to improve the sound and remove the pump's background noise, just ask me how to. cheers!

Do you have to worry how much you bend the fiber before breaking it?

There exist a couple of similar techniques to fiber couple a laser. This one demonstrates the easiest one.

Excellent demonstration! However I do not understand the logic behind mirror walking algorithm.

I think the idea is that by varying say, two variables, independently so that each variable is optimized without correlation to the other is not as optimized as varying both at the same time and taking into consideration the correlation. For instance, you can consider walking on a triangular pyramid, where the line drawn from one corner of the triangular base to the center of the base is 45 degrees with both the x and y axis. The corner of the triangle to the top of the pyramid forms one of the edges of the pyramid. If you were to start near this edge but away from the top of the pyramid along the x direction, you would rise until you reach the edge. Similarly, if you were to walk back and forth along the y direction, you would rise until you reach the same point. However, were you to walk along the line y=x, you would walk directly up to the top of the pyramid, a point which is higher than the point you were previously at when you were walking along x and y independently. Unfortunately, the above analogy does not work for a square pyramid, because of the orthogonality of the x and y directions. However, you can choose two directions which are not at right angles with one another which the same idea holds. What is the result of such pyramids? I would say it is the orientations of the mirrors and the directions in which the fine knobs move the mirrors. Alternatively, you can take the surface to be an upside down pyramid, so that the value of the surface function represents the distance between the center of the fiber coupler and the point which the laser crosses on a hypothetical plane located at the fiber coupler and normal to the designed incident entrance direction.

Can i couple the light using one mirror? or it requires at least 2 mirrors? Thank you for your help
@just_a_random_name_
@just_a_random_name_ 6 лет назад
In critical applications like coupling into a single mode fiber 2 mirrors are absolutely required. When coupling into a multimode fiber with core large enough, one mirror can be sufficient.
