The concept of a Boer needs to be clarified. Is the term Boer racial or economical? If it is racial then any other farmer that is not white is not a Boer. Or if it is economical then all farmers are Boere. Killing of farmers is a recent trend and is not acceptable. But singing historical songs has a meaning to it and is acceptable. Hence our national anthem incorporates some of the historical songs. It is not acceptable to limit, hinder or shun someone from singing their historical songs because songs do not kill people but people kill people. And it is also unacceptable to take a life of a farmer because farmers feed the people.
Why were all our historical monuments torn down if history is so important? History is clearly a much higher priority to you than the present. Any person that incites violence in the present and want to use their own version of history to justify their evil racist hatred in the present, has absolutely no moral values at all.
As far as I can remember and understand the term boer means an Afrikaans farmer. It’s a word that has derogatory connotations amongst black people and has been extended to include any farmer (and any property land owner) who happens to be white. Its use in a political rallying song in post apartheid South Africa is racist and unacceptable. We’re back to the “one settler one bullet times” of the past.

The word “boer” should be placed in the same category as the “K” and “N” words. Then it’s use becomes derogatory and racist. In 2018, I was traveling in South Africa with 3 friends (all white), so during one of car travel, we made a stop at petrol station (gas station) to make nature call, and buy something to nibble as we were hungry. Long story short, we parked beside the black jeep and since I needed to go badly, I opened the back seat door in a hurry without noticing the Jeep. My door hit the Jeep and without time to react, there this tall white lady who came out of the Jeep, she had such an angry face, she did not communicate with me nor my friends, all she did is inspect the Jeep then she went back into the Jeep without saying anything, she left us wondering, all we did is also look 👀 if I had damaged the car, for us, there was no sign but we weren’t sure , then suddenly a man walks out from the shop of the station into the Jeep, then he comes out, makes the same inspection as the lady, says nothing, then drive off.
