The moving violation might matter. For example, let's say Captain Stern was caught with a car full of dope (while disguised as a nun). There would be obvious questions of "why did the police stop him?" But when you have that moving violation in the indictment, it is pretty easy to figure out- it started as a traffic stop, and it developed into a search from there (likely after they noticed the nun costume, and felt it was suspicious)
Back in High School when this movie first came out my buddies and I saw it one night. After that any time we were about to do something that we knew was really stupid we would stand up tall and proclaim, "I got an angle"
Guy was dead to rights, surrounded by guards, in the middle of the court. Now there are no guards, people are fleeing, pure chaos, giving Stern a means to escape and prolong his evil. THAT was Loc-nar's angle.
I disagree. The Loc-Nar is the sum of all human evils. I always viewed as an evil, that is so evil, that it cannot stand any lesser evils. If it truly wanted him to escape, then it would’ve turned Sternn into a monster, or just let the events play out. I believe its thought process would be more like: “Here’s this scumbag, lowest of the low, monster among monsters, and he refuses to take credit?” That’d piss anyone off. Finally, when Sternn engages in another act of evil (i.e. fulfilling the bribe) thats enough to placate the Loc-Nar for a moment, fulfilling its master plan of allowing him to spread itself and its evil to earth. It wasn’t about Sturm escaping, it was about the Loc-Nar escaping.
@@noxamillion4514 Maybe but I see it as....The Loc Nar could make you powerful but only if it found YOU. As it did with Hannover on the witness stand and Den, accidentally stumbling across it and putting it away til the lightening storm. If you tried to find IT for exploitation purposes, it destroyed you.
In answer to this, I think the Loc-Nar's angle was not just evil, but also chaos and terror. A miniscule man tears up a courtroom, nay a space station, with it all being completely unexpected. Hanover was the one who chose to pound Sternn. The Loc-Nar chose Hanover to corrupt and destroy a meek and innocent man while wreaking havoc throughout.
@@BadassName17 ....Anyone who could master a pre-schoolers' prostitution ring, probably has concocted a way out or evasion. Better than Jeffery Epstein did.
Brannigan was a parody of James T. Kirk. Brannigan is incompetent in every area that Kirk excels in. He's bad with women, a terrible leader and a lousy tactician and strategist. Stern is a satire of square jawed two-fisted Campbellian sci-fi heroes. He's the opposite of everything they represented and stood for.
@@nepntzerZer Classic for those who grew up watching it. Different nations and societies different style. Something being 'better' in this case is purely subjective.
@@nepntzerZer Oh come on kid, respect your elder cinema! Today's adult animation like Bojack Horseman, Undone, DC animation, Waltz with Bashir, Venture Brothers, Invincibile and more would never exist if it wasn't for this movie, Wizards, Watership Down, Fritz the Cat, Heavy Traffic, Hey Good Looking, American Pop, Spawn TAS, Batman TAS, Batman Mask of the Phantasm, The Maxx, Aeon Flux, Plague Dogs, Pink Floyd The Wall, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Felidae, Fire and Ice, MTV animation, Starchaser, Rock and Rule, Fantastic Planet, Ninja Scroll, Akira, Wicked City, Vampire Hunter D, Fist of the North Star the movie, Golgo 13 Professional, Cowboy Bebop, Lightyears aka Gandahar, Princess Mononoke etc. paved the way for this century's adult animated movies and adult cartoon shows. And besides this is a European/Canadian co production as it was a UK/Canadian film and an influential classic that inspired MTV animation makers especially Fifth Element to the Nicolas Cage movie Mandy. Plus it gave us one of the all time great strong female heroes Taarna back in a time when you can create likable engaging female heroes without feeling like agenda like the woke nonsense nowadays which those twittertards would cancel her because she's wearing a skimpy outfit and would cancel den for being a masculine guy who is a womanizer as he's conan meets bond, those twitter wokesters just hate masculine men charactersand sexy women characters and back from a time when men were men and women were women as we had strong men and strong feminine women. Sex sells as nothing wrong with masculine men or sexy strong minded women hero characters.
I had this movie recored on a VHS that also had Ralph Bakshi's Wizards and Pink Floyd The Wall!! I was a cook and a dishwasher at Bennigans and would come home, smoke a lot weed, and just veg out watching these movies. Got me thru a challenging time!
Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes... I've heard of cases where they read a suspects charges and it'll be a bunch of major felonies...plus driving on a suspended license!
The soundtracks like Reach Out and Take It from Cheap Trick really make this movie. If we ever get a faithful sequel to Heavy Metal, we need more soundtracks with the story segments.
This scene is in my top ten favorite scenes in any movie, ever! The combination of the double misdirect of the scene itself, AND remembering how it was love-at-first-listen when those fist keyboard licks from "Reach Out" started playing! [and yes, that *is* a typo, but for obvious reasons I'm not correcting it!]
@kingbeef66 I don't care what a bunch of artsy critics think. I thought it was badass, and definitely wouldn't be possible to make a film like this in this climate.
Way, waaaaaay back when, I played a game of Teenagers From Outer Space, and Hanover Fiste was the highschool varsity football team's center. He'd come out this scrawny little dude in a tent-sized jersey, but at the line of scrimmage the rest of the team would tell him about how the other team was telling jokes about his mom, and let him Hulk Out before the snap...
This video continues to make me laugh! Especially at 3:15 when Hanover Fiste says, "Aw, gimme a break!". And then again when Hanover really starts to lose control at 3:26 of the video. "Steerrrnn! He's nothing but a low-down, double dealing, back stabbing, larcenous, perverted worm!".
The Procescuter is voiced by the same actor who voiced Rupert Thorne in Batman The Animated Series, he sounds just like Rupert Thorne despite this movie being made so many years before Batman The Animated Series was my how voices rarely change.
If they'd made a live-action version of this in the '90s, Bruce Campbell could have played Stern and Steve Buscemi could have played his lawyer. But who would have played Hanover Fist?
It’s too bad we don’t get to see what happens to Stern after that whole incident, but I can only assume that he got a worse fate than dying in outer space.
Ya know this one didn't make sense to me the orb promotes evil and misery and while fist destroyed alot of stuff stern was a great evil that if released would have insisted alot of evil, course if it believed this was the only way for him to escape it does make some sense. A character witness should stop him from getting locked up but wanton destruction that gives him an escape route does help him
The loc-nar is just a plot device to connect all these originally unrelated stories in the film. Hannover fist got all hulk mode on purpose and planned it all with stern. That was the escape plan
All that theater allowed Stern to scape and continue his evil. Who knows what other things he will be guilty of from this point on, instead of facing justice by hanging right that moment. Who knows if he will add genocide or some universal disaster to his long list of crimes. All that is the Green Ball of Doom's gain.
When this movie came out they had it as a double feature for the week with Cheech & Chong's Nice Dreams. 50 cents admission as a promotion. A bunch of went to every showing for all five nights.
Yeah man I saw this thing in the theater when I was a kid in my our neighbourhood kids were high on mushrooms and LSD smoking reaper and drinking Jack it's probably my favourite movie of all time I just can't find me original anywhere anymore I had copies back in the day but I lost them now all you see is the new heavy metal I really don't care for it I will if you could tell me where I can find a full copy of the original I would really appreciate it very much Thank you brother for his sister❤❤❤
It's darkly funny how after the prosecutor's call of "One moving violation", at 0:48, the lawyer made a look as if the last one tops ALL the heinous crimes Captain Sternn had committed.
@@Poppaea-Sabina no that's Bill Fagerbakke the voice of Patrick Star on Spongebob. Rodger Bumpass does the voice of squidward/Hannover fiste and many other voices too many to name here.
In case anyone is curious, the track starting at 4:09 is reach out and take it by cheap trick. One of their forgotten tracks, but it's better than "I want you to want me"(so overplayed)
It's pretty clear that like the loc-nor sterns is evil as hell & if I was the orb, I would go inside his body and did a lot of damage after court & got killed later on, so I'm wondering why it didn't do all of that cause this will prove that stern actually did all of his horrible deeds
You always try to plead down even when you are as guilty as Captain Stern here. I always hoped to see a cartoon about his illegal antics, selling dope dressed as a nun, etc
Not much of a reach, it was quickly apparent the evil sphere in 5th Element was the Loknar, and when Bruce Willis was introed as the Cab Driver, the Harry Canyon connection was instantly right there.
