She's incredible, incomparable, stunning and everything else that makes good to our minds, hearts and souls. Thank you Courtney, you're blessed 🙏 Michael must be in heaven, glad and proud of you. 💕💕💕
I had this original album on tape & listened to it over and again & loved it. Courtney gives the perfect homage, with slight irony, never losing the original spirit of this album. In removing the overproduction, she brings back the blues & breathes new life into the songs - like a new sensation. ;-) Devil Inside - so melodious, so precise, even darker than the original - who would've thought? Mediate gets a gentle & beautiful treatment, also. I find something new each time I listen to this version of Kick. And her other original songs - absolutely marvelous.
18:50 Tamara, the lady tossing the cards during Mediate is adorable. She was terrified at first, and needed Courtney so bad. You could see Courtney just wanting to sink into her guitar's intonations with that sampler, but she gave more of herself in nods and encouraging smiles. It was really fun to watch. And touching. Both their smiles made me smile, repeatedly.
Convinces me at last that my high-school-days love for this record wasn't completely misplaced. There's real good stuff down under the '80s production nonsense. Thanks, Courtney!
Like all great artist's they pull you in from start to finish and leave you walking away with an opinion, amazing stuff Courtney, good on ya for stepping out the square and doing your own thing, great take on an old classic album , looking forward to hearing more from ya , :-)
Beautiful, and one more piece of evidence on the power of great songs, no matter the style they are performed in. In this case, a win-win: INXS songs plus Courtney's sober, raw performances.
This is terrific! It sounds like INXS if the tunes were written by The Velvet Underground to me. @Lana Del Rey for Next Libération magazine 2014 of April. Photographed by Mathieu Cesar
I would sell my soul to be go back in time and been there.oh the right I sound my soul to the devil to get Kraftwerk touring again years ago, was fucking amazing and so is this.seeing Courtney again in concert in July Raglan New Zealand
Years later revisiting this video...totally thought this was me you were referring to for a moment as I have an identical rear profile middles-aged-man receding hairline. Until, that is, I review the photography I was hired to do that day and realise it wasn't me at all....thankfully. Totally different angles and seating position to me. Okay Courtney, just saw you on Good Morning America this morning and promptly looked you up on RU-vid....when you gonna tour the states, specifically Northern Michigan ?
I'd love to see her cover the Hoodoo Gurus. Beck covered this album too DAMN... I MISS INXS !!!! I'd love to see her cover the Hoodoo Gurus. I like her she is so cute This sounds like INXS on heroin... I'd love to see her cover the Hoodoo Gurus.
+jackiejanetm first time i checked someone's list.....music and food.....you're my kind of woman......waiting for bowie's album on the 8th.....maybe i'll try the pork shank recipe to celebrate....happy new year
this and new sensation seem kind of like something cat power might have covered in her early years. completely reworked and almost a different song, the guitar almost sounds similar.
Timothy Germann I gotta agree with this, it's nice but I'd love to see her cover AC/DC's "Big Balls" -- something with clever lyrics. Let's forgive her, Timothy! :)
3188 seconds of my life are way too many to listen to a nevertheless talented songwriter singing for fun a whole (rather mediocre but commercial) album on a sole guitar!
You may be a shrew but you ain't very shrewd. I suspect you haven't listened to her EPs either. Courtney Barnett is a hugely talented songwriter, her guitar-playing is pretty damn cool as well; and the fact you are too cloth-eared and pedantic to appreciate that is your loss. Its interesting to see the INXS songs in a different musical setting and style, stripped back to simply words and melody rather all the eighties bombast and clutter of the original album. The fact some of you prefer the INXS versions is completely - so do I mostly - but that is beside the point.
INXS sucked after the Listen Like Thieves album. This is a rendition of their most successful album done sincerely by an artist who has a genuinely raw talent .Rather listen to this than the crud INXS put out in their latter career.
