In the first set Nishimoto set the tone by scoring several points in a row smashing towards Momota’s backhand, which was how many of these players beat him in the past two years. I think in the second and third sets Kento improved his anticipation and defence, his cross court clears towards Kenta’s forehand corner were deep and flat, like how he played with SYQ two days ago and this blunted Kenta’s attacks. You can sense his confidence coming back when he celebrated winning points in the third set. I feel this is how his belief can continue growing in any match, and if he can attain this level and sustain it in respective matches, he can beat anyone.
His smash anticipation, coupled with his immaculate defense, is what gave him the edge in 2019, I believe. Yes, Kento's smashes now lack that 'sting' or 'bite' but even before 2020 happened, he'd tire his opponents out. And then land an accurate down the line smash to win the point. Now, his defence quality is letting him down. His anticipation is letting him down. And his attack hasn't improved much.

I missed the first game, and I wondered why Kenta Nishimoto didn't smash to get winning points in the 2nd and 3rd game. Now, watching the replay of the 1st game, I see why . During the 1st game, Kento Momota destroyed Kenta power and fighting spirit. This playing style of Momota reminds me of Lindan style, who usually drain the opponents' energy in the first game and slowly killed in the 2nd and 3rd game. It's good to see Kento Momota evolve and make a comeback.
I wish him the best for the incoming tournaments, his physical condition has decrease since i saw him 2years ago so the smashes lack the bite to put pressure on his opponent but his game senses never left him.
Awesome point of view! I wish they make different views of the good games a lot more often. That is when you learn more from an angle. There is no dept perception if the camera is always positioned straight from the back.
