For some reason this song always gives me chills when i listen to it..even when seeing it live.. The band almost always wears suits in their concert performances. I discovered this band about a year or before this album and this one cemented my enjoyment for them.
The one that always gets me from VNV Nation is "Illusion". What a great song and message. You schould check it out. By the way, I think this (Covenant) was recorded (Video, audio is Studio Version I think) at "Wave Gothic Treffen" in Leipzig, Germany and I think I have been at that show. The song is nearly 20 years old.
Good music, for me it sounds like a mixture of Kraftwerk (synthesizer electronics) and Human League/ Depeche Mode (vocals) with a nineties touch, melodic as well.
Don't forget, in Europe this song has a specific meaning, made poetic...."calling the ships to port" means lighting up the signal-beacons along the coast..if one lights up, followed by another, and another...they either need you back to save them or to save yourself, you need all vessels returned to safe berth because either the waters got dangerous or someone landed and the people now need help.
I saw this band live in Utrecht (the Netherlands) when they still had the yearly summer darkness festival. Another song of them that I like is stalker. Greetings from the Netherlands.🇳🇱👍
A very good track, from a good band. The singer is very friendly, I did met long time ago, on a Dutch Gothic musicfestival, called "Summer Darkness". I'm still playing their music up until this day.
try also the german band 'And One'. Also heavily inspired by Depeche Mode. Fan Fact their singer went to the barber looking for a Dave Gahan haircut. 2nd time he tried it by himself. It was kind of a disaster but he kept it up to our days as a trademark of his!! Maybe start with Military Fashion Show by them!
