Ever wonder why you're only seeing deer at night? Frustrated by your neighbors always getting the deer you're after? The answer may be more simple than you think. Hint... it's not their food plots.

I see this around the house every year. This time of year deer are coming in CLOSE because of all the foliage (cover). As the foliage goes away, the deer move at different times, get further out, bed different areas, etc. Cover is so important for deer.

Lime and 13-13-13 fertilizer. The soil in Arkansas is highly acidic and the use of lime improves the ph. The more the better, I’ve been told you will not be able to put down too much. I used 500 pounds over about a half acre food plot with white clover ☘️ and a wild food blend of winter wheat, oats and clovers which did well on its own for two seasons. Also consider planets that will do well in extreme conditions like high heat and low water supply. The use of fertilizer raises the protein level of the natural forage and anything else you choose to over seed with will flourish.

Pretty much any plant that’s not a grass. Broadleaf plants.

Your title is definitely misconstrued! If you own property, and do have any food on the property, there is no pattern! Deer want a pattern everyday! For food plots as far as hunting, they should be hunting plots not destination plots! You want smaller plots because deer don’t like heading out to a middle of a 10 acres field during daylight period. But a 1/8 to 3/4 acre plot well screened and NOT pressured is the ticket! There’s more to just planting one of these plots like you did mention and I agree! They all tend to fall in line when cover, corridors, bedding, water, and food come together with the “NO PRESSURE “ aspect then and only then will you have the best property in the neighborhood! And I know I sound like a Jeff Sterjis advertisement, but I know 150% it works! And have done to 3 of the properties I manage and about to do it to another! And I live in the Hudson valley New York which is full with yahoo hunters! We aren’t killing 5-6 year olds here but we always kill our biggest bucks in the area 3-4 year olds every year!
