Those who are fans of my facebook page ( / cordeliagartsidemusic - like me!) will know that my microphones are now working!
I can now disclose that the issue was that I'd lost the serial number for my interface (the piece of equipment that means the microphones can talk to my computer) and as a result couldn't install the software for it on my new computer. After 5 months of hunting up and down my house I visited the Apogee support webpage, and spoke to a v helpful man called Brett, who told me that the serial number was the number starting with S/N on the bottom of my interface. .......Exactly. The moral of this story is that I'm a fool, and I apologise for the video hiatus recently.
