Hard to take the spotlight away from Yvette though. Her playing is just some damn beautiful to watch. I'm a drummer and my eyes were mostly glued to her playing.
BrandonJohnsonDrums When I saw them I was like “I don’t know how you play that high,” and he was like “Imma bout to show you, boy.” I definitely paraphrased that and used my own dialect. But he showed me for sure.
This was in my recommendations from signs of the swarm. Figured it was gonna be heavy as hell but nope. As a drummer i listen to everything and now I have a new group to explore. This guy's techniques are amazing. Me personally ni wouldn't have my cymbals that high but if it works for him i support it. Loved this
As someone who doesn't understand anything about drums, I find it amazing how drummers go just as ape shit over this guys drumming as some huge arena rock band drummer going all out. It's fascinating.
I haven’t had the chance to check out their new drummer, but I feel sorry for anyone having to fill Forrest’s shoes. 😅 I’m sure the new drummer is still good though.
Theyre SO different lol what. AAL always feels like theyre purposefully aiming to make their riffs/timing extra weird to the point that it feels like a contrived flex of technique (like I doubt many people listen to them for the song itself, but instead just to be awed at the complexity). Covet always feels like the melodies themself come first before the complexity. At least anything after their first EP which also felt like how I described AAL, but still more melodic as a whole imo. Edit: just to be clear Im saying as a whole. Songs like Another Year are an exception
@@DatHombre Your entitled to feel that way just like Im entitled to feel the way I feel. To me they just sound kinda corny and like they are definitely influence by AAL just no where near as good! Peace!!!
@@nwpdrummer85 Yeah but you're wrong!! Just kidding of course haha. But also if you haven't heard the new Covet album you should try it out you miiight like it possibly? Since you like AAL a lot you could try the song Atreyu if you're willing! My personal favorite is Parrot though I think that song is ridiculous Maybe you're mind won't change but you should give it a shot at some point just in case!
Sounds like AAL are the first prog metal/math rock you've ever heard. Covet are entirely their own thing, just because AAL are you're point of reference for this kind of music doesn't mean other bands in the similar genre are trying to emulate them
Covet's music is not for doing crazy shit on the drums, it has much more groove than conventional math rock, i think Forest is perfect for that band, he has formidable technique and lot of musicality.
