Short trip Westwards at Cow Green reservoir shot on the same day as Cauldron Snout. Flying up Long Band Hush then across the shake holes at Pikestone Hurth and following the old waggonway up to Dubby sike mine. Tried to fly on to Green Hurth mine which still has the leas dressing floor visible but started get video link distance problems, so flew back to the car park.

I was there in the summer of 1984 when cow green was empty & you could go down into the bottom of it. There was still cottages stood & a stream running through it.

Wow! wish I'd seen that! Or better still if I'd had the drone to make a video of it. A few years ago I did see the old village and roadways in Hawswater, as it dried up, I thought it was a bit spooky!

Thanks Graham, I never thought of that, it'd be great for the Perseid shower in August! I sometimes go up onto Stanhope moor for that.

Wonderful video John as always. I love this flight and the sound track gave it some reality feeling if that makes sense. Can't describe what I mean lol. As you flew over this beautiful landscape there were ridges and indents in the land and some that looked as though earth had been scooped up in one big shovel. 0.56 seconds into the film with the road to the left. Just curious. Thank you for this wonderful video John. I enjoyed it very much. Happy New Year to you and your family.😃👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you Kim. I can't give you a definitive answer (0.56 seconds) the old maps just show it as 'Track' . I can tell you that the whole area was heavily mined and quarried for numerous minerals but mainly galena (lead ore) which contained about 10% - 20% silver and was skimmed off. The old timers used bell pits, test holes and hushes to expose mineral seams when they were prospecting, some of those became full blown mines. Many of them (mines) are still there, along with a lot of open shafts, I used to go exploring in them a few years ago.
