Today's video is about pichwai painting .Pichhwai (also pichhavai, pichhvai, pechhavai etc) are large devotional Hindu painted pictures, normally on cloth, which portray Krishna. They are mainly made to hang in Hindu temples of the Pushtimarg devotional tradition, especially the Shrinathji Temple in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, built around 1672.Pichwai is created to depict the story of Shrinathji, another form of Lord Krishna holding the Govardhan hill.
The word ‘Pichwai’ comes from ‘pich’ (back) and ‘wai’ (textile wall hanging) and addresses the tradition of hanging Pichwai artworks depicting Srinathji, behind the deity. Today, these paintings are no longer restricted to the temple and adorn the walls of homes and offices due their bright hues and auspicious motifs. The traditionally ornate Pichwais can now be easily found on cushion covers, carpets, etc. However, this doesn’t diminish the beauty of Pichwai art in the least.
