the fake eye was such an important part of the original show, his eyes were THE metaphor for Spike's entire character and they made his fighting EVEN MORE impressive because of the handicap.. my jaw dropped when he said he didnt know about it omg

"Look into my eyes Faye...one of them's a fake 'cause I lost it in an accident. Since then, I've been seeing the past in one eye, and the present in the other, never the whole picture". I mean...they didn't do that in season 1 and they actually show Spike's backstory pretty fully and we never see him lose the eye so I guess he doesn't in live action but if they were gonna do that it'd be good if he was told that.

I'd argue a scene where live-action Spike watches a drop of water falling in slow-motion before starting to fight was a hint of this fake eye. There was a zoom-in on his face that looked like he had a lens or something. I could be wrong, but the whole thing felt suspicious to me. I've always took Spike for being even more "powerful" (skilled) than the average person due to his cybernetic eye - which explains to me why he could face-off against people using stimulants (like Asimov on Red-Eye on the first EP of the anime). If they get a Season 2 and ignore this fact, they are missing a huge point.

@@gabeux It's hinted that onto of his cybernetic eye he has nanomachines that aid in healing. All of it is kind of a reference to his retelling of the cat that lived a million lives(a Japanese children's book) in that he is unable to die until he follows his love into the afterlife.

Inane dialogue, juvenile writing, unsympathetic characters, B film look without the charm, etc. Even worse if you enjoyed the anime, because you will be bogged down with political/nonsensical revisions/additions to the plot and characters

A lot of bad reviews; The adaptation isn't considered perfect enough (terrible by half, just alright and watchable by the other half)... As the production costs a lot and Netflix decided quite early it's a flop, they canceled it to save money for projects that will attract more viewers (and make them more money)...

It's kind of a bummer that they're adapting Cowboy Bebop but they didn't recognize that the "fake eye" question was referring to the original where Spike says that "with one eye, he sees the present, with the other he sees the past", since it's kind of a cornerstone to his character

Spike's beagle does have one fake glass eye, he told Faye that in one episode in the animation! I remember that! To the nice people in the comments section that let me know it was not a glass eye, it was a reconstruction of his eye/Robotic version of his Normal one, Thankyou!

I mean, part of me says it's fine that they don't know about Spike's eye. Not every actor knows about the stuff they're working in. I just find it weird none of the writers told them about it. I get everyone thinks it's based on an animation and thus not deserving of respect but then why make and adaptation? That's exactly what an anime should be to an actor if you're making a live adaptation out of it. Its sort of a soft script which lets you witness the nuances of your character that just can't be explained on sheets of paper dialogues. But hey, its your opinion, go off!

Spikes eye was indeed artificial. One could only see the past whereas the other sees the present. Final episode he decided he was going to face vicious not to die but to see if he's really alive. 🤔 I was a kid when I first watched this show. I've seen it more than 10x minimum... no season 2 for CB

I can excuse john cho for not knowing the fake eye thing because he wasn’t really an anime guy and he didn’t really watch it except maybe once like he said, but i can’t excuse Danielle because she was saying again and again that she watched the anime 3 time and knows the characters better than anyone, so how come she didn’t know this little detail, it’s not like it was a hidden one, spike blatantly said i have a fake eye one for the past the other the real one is for the present
