Omg I almost spit out my coffee when you showed that handful of bacon! Love it! Glad your family could join you. I love road trips with my kid and you are planting lots of ideas. Thanks!!
I appreciate your including these non war related videos recently. Don't get me wrong. I know how important that stuff is. But every once in a while it's nice to get a break and just enjoy some good ol' Americana etc.
The look on your daughter's face was priceless! Great series so far! And to think I wanted to just fly that route. I would have missed a heck of a lot. Thanks for this great series. I can tell you have had a great time on this trip.
The Old West is one of my favorite time periods in our country's history. Lived in Montana for a couple years. My then-15 yr old cowgirl daughter worked on a horse ranch and actually went on a cattle drive. Amazing experiences and memories. So glad your wife and daughter are there with you to experience this part of your trip and make some precious family memories. Awesome video, as always. Your passion for our history is contagious and very much appreciated. Your daughter's reaction to the Rocky Mountain oysters was priceless. She is adorable.
Awesomeness! 🇺🇸 Unfortunately the modern generation won’t get to watch the “Duke” They won’t be watching TV where the only movie is a Western, no John Wayne, no Clint 😢 Us old timers will reminisce 🤠 I do like your food clips, as a Brit I just love watching your American food types, remember you take it for granted what you eat, biscuits & gravy for breakfast…..what the heck 😂 Don’t get me started on how you guys do your bacon 🫣🥓 Maybe do a food episode after you finish this amazing journey 🫡🇺🇸 Looking forward to the next episode 🇬🇧🫶🏻🇺🇸
I'm so enjoying these videos 😊 My husband and I bought an RV this year. He's originally from Texas and has always promised to take me there. We're from Indiana, and will be following Route 66 to New Mexico (coming back via Roswell and Carlsbad, my bucket list) into southern Texas. I have made plenty of notes as where we're to stop 😀 Many thanks! ❤
The 72 oz. Challenge also has non-official winners. Both did it in 90 seconds or less. They are non-official because one was a 600 pound Siberian tiger and the other was a lion. The lion is the current champion at 80 seconds. I love that the restaurant tracks this, even if they are non-official.
Hours & Hours watching Gunsmoke, Bonanza & The Big Valley with my grandfather. Did everyone see Miss Kitty's green dress in the corner of the display? Great Museum!
I am really enjoying this series on Route 66, and learning some interesting facts along the way! Love anything "cowboy" and the West, where I call home! Thanks JD
As someone who grew up in Colorado, seeing the daughter nonchalantly chow down on a Rocky Mountain Oyster my thought was, “Wow! That was bold. Good for her.” Then the realization and her reaction was priceless. In addition, I admire the fact that J.D. grabbed a handful of pocket bacon for the road. Great video. Now I need to visit Oklahoma City just for that museum.
Absolutely love it! That is one of my favorite breakfast spots here in okc. Never been to the cowboy museum. Thank you for your insight and humor along the way. Keep it up JD.
My daughter & 4 grandchildren live in Amarillo. I've been to the Big Texan on multiple occasions. Most locals do not go there. It is strictly for tourists. I would recommend the chicken fried steak over the steaks. But you seemed pleased so that's good.
Excellent episode. I moved to OKC from the east last year. The cowboy museum is one of the best museums I’ve ever seen. If you’re out here again stop into the 45th infantry division museum.
Great video! Sharing that you grew up on a farm is very endearing to many of us! I grew up on a PA dairy farm. Raised steers for market as well. Shout out to farm/ranch folks❤️🇺🇸.
We also went to OKC on our Route 66 trip, visiting the OKC Bombing museum, and the Cowboy Museum. The Cowboy Museum had a Route 66 exhibit at the time...! And one all about denim 👖. We barely scratched the surface. 😭 Just too many wonderful things to see!
Loved this video. The National Cowboy Museum is on my bucket list. I am a hugh Gunsmoke fan. Thanks for showing the items from the show. That was a funny joke you played on your daughter at dinner. I got a laugh out of that.
"There's been a mistake... you've accidentally given me the food that my food eats" -Ron Swanson when given a salad, also, J.D. probably... Awesome video, really enjoying this series.
Good to see a working stockyards still around today. We had the largest stockyards here in Omaha back in the 60's. Moving the packing houses out of Omaha to small rural towns, was the beginning of the end for our stockyards.
Another great video JD! The expression and reaction of your daughter was priceless! I also replied to your post on X asking if you took the 72 ounce steak challenge, but alas... 😊
The Cattlemen’s Restaurant was off the chain. Yum 😋. Enjoyed the Cowboy Museum. And John Wayne. Or Marion Morris is a my Cousin. It is an incredible place. Thank you JD for sharing this trip. 💯❤️👊👍
I also broke some bones bull and saddle bronc riding. I'm now at age 70. Those breaks hurt more now in the morning than they did back then. Thanks for bringing up your Cowboy in you. Long time subscriber.
Saw American Pie in your playlist. Your next video should be a visit at the Surf Ballroom. Which was the last place The Big Bopper, Buddy Holly and Richie Valens performed.
The inventor of the curved chutes and races for cattle handling and the improvement of slaughterhouse practices is Dr. Temple Grandin who was diagnosed with autism in the 1950’s.
Seriously enjoying this Route 66 series! I must also say, the editing is really cool. Something as simple as the drone following the car driving down the road. Love it. Keep it up! Can’t wait for the next video!
chickenhawk talked a big game then hid behind his kids to stay out of combat.. rtted his friendsout to the mcarthy hearings.. believed he was in the master race
as a huge John Wayne fan, you should visit the Ft Worth Stockyards where his son has a museum full of his things. Really a great museum. Worth the trip
So much appreciate your work JD! Glad you’re having a great time and sharing it with us. God bless our ranchers and cowboys who grow the beef! Think I’ll have a steak for dinner tonight! 👍💪🇺🇸 Awesome series from flyover country.
I'm definitely a man of the Golden West! The family is from western Nebraska, on the Oregon Trail, and currently in Oregon. I lived California decades ago, western Montana, and Arizona...on Rt. 66 (what a coincidence! LOL!). You are absolutely correct, the West truly IS a huge work of art, just as beautiful as all those old cars! Sure wish you could spend all day in all those cool museums; you make a great tour guide! The Remington sculptures were fantastic! That breakfast sure looked tasty, I cooked lots of similar meals on the road, but mostly to order, not buffet. You have now covered the big food icons on Rt. 66... biscuits and gravy, known as "B&G" to us insiders! The Big Texan is a requirement, and the chicken fried steak is another Rt. 66 staple, good for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Dang, now I have a craving for a cholesterol bomb! LOL!
Loved this video ! Glad stopped by there, I visited it with My Dad about 20 years ago, outstanding museum ! Love the way you create your videos. and music tracks fit perfectly. Happy to hear you plan to go back and do one sometime on the Quanah Parker house. I did a couple back when the owner was still living, however, that was back when the best recording at the time was VHS tape. Although the house was moved to its current location (in defunct Eagle Park in Cache, OK) it is still a national treasure but in great state of decay. Also in the same park there are other historically significant buildings the owner had moved there in attempt to save them for future generations. I could tell you some stories about that place, very similar to one of your recent Rt 66 stops, sadly all of them are heading in the same direction of decay. Keep up the great work. I have a friend at church who is a history teacher and we both share the interest in your channel.
I've been following the Route 66 series and have I have really enjoyed them. That was hilarious about the oysters. 😂 As a life long Okie, I can't believe you didn't go to the Davis gun musuem. Should've skipped the blue whale and stopped at the Davis gun musuem. You have no idea what you and your viewers missed out on. Keep up the fantastic work! Your videos are very educational and well put together.
Don't wait for your kids to grow up. Do it now and make those memories with the kids. We bought a rv almost 4 years ago and as a family. Best thing we ever could have spent money on. I didn't get that experience as a kid and am glad I can have those memories now with my daughter.
When I graduated from high school in '78 my folks had a new pickup and 5th wheel setting in the driveway ready to go and a long term lease on the house. They left a week later and full time RVed for 22 yrs. They drove to all 49 states, Canada, and Mexico and never regretted a minute of it! Only cancer and old age could stop them! Miss you mom and dad!
But he doesn't like fruit for breakfast, nor does he like salad, and medium rare is not the only way to cook a steak. I like mine medium well. Every person is unique.
A couple of meal comments. 1) Yeah, fruit is definitely out when bacon and sausage are available. 2) I'm surprised you're still with us as I would have thought your daughter would have killed you in your sleep over the Rocky Mountain Oysters. Lol
Another great video! A couple comments. Oklahoma City has an interesting history in more contemporary times as well. From the first sit in that spurred the Civil Rights Movement to the Oklahoma City bombing. I appreciate how you show the honesty in your videos. From the Mexican Vaqueros to hunting in the US. It is true that hunters, trappers and fishermen support and take care of the conservation of our American wildlife.
JD, one of the very best sandwiches to eat on the while you are flying down the highway is bacon and scrambled eggs, Fix it before you leave the house or hotel (from that 'free' breakfast and wrap it in tin foil. Then, after about 3 to4 hours or so when the sandwich has cooled off and the flavors are all good and mixed together, open that baby up and enjoy the feast. Ain't nothin better anywhere!!... And, If I were you, I would be on the look out for some payback over the Rocky Mountain Oysters...HaHa. Loving this video like all that have come before it! Thank you! Hope you all continue to have a great trip!
Oooo...did someone say "Steak"? Come on JD, 72oz steak is nothing...lol. I also hate salad so I am on your side here. Thanks for another great video. LOL....I was wodering if she knew what she was so happily picking up and eating. HAHA.
Nothing like a handful of bacon for road trip snacks 😋😅 You're starting to get to areas I've been to at one time or another. Looking forward to seeing more 👍 Back when I was in college and driving a semi for a moving company, we stopped at the Big Texan and my coworker decided to go for the steak challenge. You have to pay for it up front and they give you your money back, along with a certificate if you make it in time. He had nothing on the baked potato, no dressing on the salad and no butter on the roll. He made it in about 55 minutes. The thing is, an hour before we got there I watched him polish off a box of Ritz crackers and a half a jar of peanut butter 😅 I got to listen to him complain about his stomach for the next two days on our way to California 🤢😆
Great video series, I’ve become a fan of your channel. You and your family get up into northwest Montana sometime I could set you up with some history from around the area.
That museum looks awesome. Would definitely like to check that out. Fun fact for when you were talking about rodeo, my little town I lived in for a bit, Deer Trail, CO, is the home of the worlds first rodeo. Pecos TX claims it from what I’ve read, but we have them beat by about 14 years. The first was held July 4, 1869. And we were going to go to the Big Texan for dinner a couple weeks ago and didn’t make it unfortunately! Next time.
I knew what they were before I tried them for the first time. They are DELICIOUS!!!! It's been ages since I've had any - only because it's been ages since I've been anywhere that they were served. Seeing them on the table made me start salivating.
@@williamrobinson827 haha we don't have them here in Wales as far as I know, what are they like? I'm not sure I'd have the balls to try them (pun absolutely intended) 😅
@@rockstarJDP To me, they taste a lot like sirloin. About the only Welsh dish that I have had is rarebit. It was an experiment and probably not quite genuine - I doubt if I used the right kind of cheese, but it turned out pretty good.
My favorite episode of this adventure so far I also grew up on a working farm/ ranch I miss it now. Great prank on to bigger things thanks for taking me along. If you get the chance check out the pbr Great show
They have added some things since I last visited the Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma City. You and I are in violent agreement on one key fact. A good steak is always cooked medium rare.
