Joe reminds me of my dad who was an environmentalist before the term was coined. His passion was the Rideau canal. Back in the 60s they decided to open the canal system up to tourism. The huge yachts and traffic did heavy damage as dad had predicted.

I met Joe a few times on the river going back to the early '80s, he's been a fixture on the upper section for decades, he's accomplished a lot conservation wise. He deserves props for that. Enjoyed your documentary. Cheers. :)

When I produced this in 99 I think it was, Joe was the driving force behind having available land along the river bought up so that it would not be developed. Plus all the other Rod & Gun projects. Assuming you saw all three parts. Cheers!

My late husband lived near the Cowichan River at 3-mile...he was about the same age as Joe and also went to work in the mill after high school...he was also a musician and played at dances and such around the Cowichan Valley...wonder if they knew each other.

Did you see part one and part 3 of the Cowichan doc? I live up in the Comox Valley near Mt Wash turn off. The Tsolum River is close and it is a very pretty low gradient river.

Excellent hunting and fishing until the trees are cut down,the river is exploited and overfished,and a 100 other destructions. Happened to every river I've ever been on.
