Hey man. I used to cut my teeth on trying to get a coyote back in high school. I would call some in for my friends with my FoxPro but they would always do the shooting, and it was usually the younger small coyotes that come into an electronic distress call around here. The older ones aren't stupid. They'll 9/10 go downwind of that call so out someone on the backdoor and they'll usually be the one to get a shot. It's funny because that guy usually thinks hes getting stiffed but he has the best spot. If there's fresh snow, then I wood hunt woods near marshes and only lip squeek with your mouth. Make those high pitched noises that makes your dogs go crazy. Lip squeaking is way underrated when close quarter coyote hunting. Especially if you have quiet access with that fresh snow. Coyotes generally don't go downwind to scent check a mouse squeek as that's pretty much their main diet but you damn right know they'll go downwind to scent check a rabbit in distress. Leave the rabbit calls in the truck. Everyone uses them. Last but not least,. Don't hunt your spots until late January, February. Coyotes are in heat right now and all you have to do is do a long coyote howl. Just do it with your mouth. You don't need a hand call or electronic call. Just go "AwhhhWOOOOOOO" really deep. Maybe do a couple of them. You can do a couple little barks before the howl. "Roof, Roof, AwhhWOOOOOOO". And then just wait a good solid 15 minutes before doing anything more. Wait. Give them some time to get to you. Also if you do have an electronic call. I'd only use it for coyote in distress. It works great to bring out that second coyote after you shoot the first one. If you one is running away from you,. Howl at it,. It'll most likely stop perfectly broadside and look back at you. And if you want to really clean up on some predators and don't mind not keeping the pelt. Hunt April and March too. After a long cold winter, and after the breeding in Feb. They are hungry AF and still very territorial.. February , march, and April man! And howl at them! You don't need the rabbit distress. They work here & there but they seem to call in the young ones that weigh about 20 lbs and don't go downwind

@@mknight6556 hey bro, thank you BIG time for the tips! The effort you put in and the information you have helped me with is definitely going to be put to work. I really do appreciate it. Since my initial comment, I’ve gone out a couple times more.. still no luck. However, I was able to take a wolf recently while out looking for good stand spots so that was a huge highlight. I’m gonna ditch the e caller for awhile and have less weight and do more hand, or just simple mouth noises.

@@1776carpediem a wolf?! That is badazz man! Congrats! Vocal chord are one heck of a free call with practice. And with coyotes, less is way more. Sometimes curiosity kills cat. Good luck this season on the coyotes!

Fur prices have collapsed in recent years (pandemic?) but good western coyote furs would fetch upwards of $100, bottoming out at around $50. And because they're predators with no real predators they are huntable year round in western states.

Canada Goose is going to stop taking / producing coyote furs so it really hurt the fur market in general. Whole fur market is in collapse.
