Beer leagues out here in SLC and surrounding areas are growing at an unsustainable rate. 300 people joined both of my leagues in each of the last two years. Additionally; it’s getting harder and harder to get into Youth hockey leagues because of the growth. Hockey is getting huge in Utah and the NHL is only going to grow that. As a future season ticket holder of the Utah ____, I am pumped
I doubt his wife would let him after she blasted me in the comments few years ago but stranger things have happened and would love to share a chat and be proven wrong
Great podcast today! Thanks for the shout out, glad I was able to make someone’s day while driving the bus sometimes that’s a very hard task Keep up the great work guys!!!
Wheeler starting the pod talking Masters Golf was perfect after an amazing tournament in the last four days. Gained a ton more respect for the three time Bizkit host, lol
Don't live in Salt Lake but real close by. There's a huge thirst for ANY major sports team. There's not much to do here besides hitting the slopes, going hiking, or going to sporting events. The amount of support that our teams get is insane. Season ticket holders and non-season ticket holders regularly drive 1-2-3 hours just to catch Utah Jazz games, which is why their games are always sold out no matter how bad they play. College football is also a religion in and of itself. The NHL will definitely thrive here in Utah and i'm personally fucking stoked about the Coyotes moving here. I grew up a Jazz fan but a new team I can root for from day 1 is going to be something special. I'm so happy it's hockey. Edit: I also want to add... Mormons are pent up all day everyday which results in them being very "passionate" (hostile and aggressive) at games. I think hockey is going to be a perfect outlet for them. And tbh, I think the NHL will overtake the NBA in popularity in Utah.
Utah is a great place due to the fact that it’s a booming place for rich mormons and they’re willing to spend money to support sports teams especially a winter sport
Dave friggin' nailed it in his justified rant about AZ moving to Utah. Maybe Utah will work, I guess we'll see. But Arizona has proven it's not a good market for hockey, and I absolutely agree with his take on Atlanta... they've tried it twice before, why do they want to give it another go? Atlanta is not a good hockey market! And I'd love Quebec City, they should get a team. But we all know the NHL isn't going to entertain that idea, it's not gonna happen. They should, but they won't. Anyway, I agree with all of what Dave said about teams moving & expansion.
@@slanginthebizkitpodcast Wiki... "In 1996, team owner Barry Shenkarow sold the team to American businessmen Steven Gluckstern and Richard Burke. Burke and Gluckstern originally planned to move the team to Minnesota (which had lost the North Stars to Dallas in 1993), but eventually reached an agreement with Phoenix businessman Jerry Colangelo that would see the team move to Arizona and become the Phoenix Coyotes."
Utah has the ECHL grizzlies right up the road from SLC and that team does great on attendance. The yotes will be fine in utah . And I believe Tucson should just take over the grizzlies echl to AHL makes more sense
Canada should never have another team for pure growth of the sport. a new NHL team in Canada will not provide a single new fan. We have seen the growth of the sport with Arizona, Texas, Florida, that has grown the sport, and create new fans.
Ok Dave lost me with his comment that the majority of Sabres fans are from Hamilton. Buffalo LOVES the Sabres (in a love/hate kind of way). There's no way that Hamilton has more Sabres fans than Buffalo. I live in Rochester & we probably have more Sabres fans than Hamilton. Dave's a bit offside on that take. As disillusioned as Buffalo fans are, they are a very loyal fanbase. The majority of Sabres fans are absolutely in Western NY.
Here in Utah, many sports fans like myself haven’t historically followed the NHL, but we badly want to support other major sports franchises. I can promise you the NHL will be fully embraced. Just look at the Jazz- even in bad years, we sell out every single game. We support the hell out of our teams. Now we know that the NHL is coming, we’ll do our research and become hockey people.
Winnipeg jets are averaging 13,100 fans this year a lower average attendance of any year in Atlanta who averaged 13,500 their last year which was their lowest since became a team in 1999. Atlanta left not because of attendance issues but they couldn’t secure an arena deal. Quebec is to small a market just like Winnipeg and if they add another team in Canada how are they growing the NHL? Going to Salt Lake City, Houston or any new American market they are going to add new fans to the sport and growing the NHL popularity which they need to do
Great information 👍 alot of people are unaware that Winnipeg has a lower attendance now with winning team than Atlanta had with an awful team. Atlanta will work and thrive. It's coming!!!!
Player club hockey in Utah. Hockey will do well. We'd have 2,000 in our arena and every team we played in the state filled the arenas. The Mormans thing also means more kids to help grow the game. Beautiful state and they owner is young, new and seems like he'll help the league. Only issue would be the little runway they have to build a brand in a few months. Gotta drop the Yotes name. Seattle and Vegas had more time to think of colors, logos and market those. SLC has a few months.
Summer talk suggestions: 1) best/worst video games of all time (include hockey ones) 2) inline hockey 3) mini stick hockey 4) Best/worst hockey movies of all time
@@slanginthebizkitpodcast also maybe tell funny team stories that have happened when ya'll go out to eat togehter or are in a hotel together? pranks / parties/ idk XD
Went to one grizzly game and it was shit. 2 grizzlies collided on the PP and a goalie got ran and nobody dripped the gloves. Growing up in Canada, we get spoiled with the CHL and have no patience for crap hockey
Wheeler was off on this podcast episode. Utah is a state, not a city. Salt Lake City is obviously a city inside Utah. Secondly, how can you say most of the fans at Buffalo Sabres home games are from Hamilton? Don’t get me wrong, maybe some. But most? You’re out of your mind.
Atlanta does want hockey bad. We lost our team due to Atlanta Spirit Groups terrible ownership. Since 2011 Atlanta has exploded and is begging for a team. 2 competing owners with deep pockets in Atlanta Metro Area. Atlanta is a huge market that wants NHL back.
@@slanginthebizkitpodcast Yes they had a team from 2003-2014. I guess I am partially wrong as it was that they could not find another place to play. However, their highest average attendance was 5531 a year.
Didnt think I could like Dave anymore but today proved me wrong. Love this Pod. You guys are great. Cheers BTW Trav, you should check out our pod on Thursday nights
Jazz can fill an arena on Tuesday when there out of playoffs and grizzlies games (echl) are 5 to 6 thousand people on Weekends. NHL hockey need to be in utah
You can't compare the situation with Vegas because the fans knew for a couple of years before they got a team that they were getting it where in Utah we just found out
If you get pro-goalies on your show, NHL or AHL level, you should ask them what their lower body workouts are like. What exercises they do, how much weight they are lifting, etc. That will give you an idea of what you might want to be add to your workouts to improve your game.
I told you the lower decker is more effective. In the floor grate it would stink if he turned on the heat or ac it would either smell like you were cooking farts or chilling farts. We did it in texas to a guy who was a complete ahole.
