I've watched literally hundreds of photography-related videos - product reviews, tutorials, technical instruction - and this is by far one of my very favorites. Not only is it IMO the best and most comprehensive and practical review I've seen of the X100T, it's a terrific primer on street photography and street portraiture. The segment with the impromptu portrait shoot of the children and their grandparents is just wonderful. I think it really captures the essence of what it is to be a portrait photographer - the ability to build rapport and trust with your subjects and create from that a really amazing and memorable experience is the what we all strive for.
A thousand and one videos on the X100t, but this is the one that convinced me to buy it. I don't care where technology goes now, I think I always be happy. Thanks
Great video Bert. You say you find it hard to approach strangers but that was a wonderful interaction with the children and their grandparents - a delight to watch. Also very interesting on the upgrades to the X100 series. More please.
I know this video is now close on 10 years old but it is still brilliant. Now, in 2024, I have the X100VI so I enjoyed looking back and comparing with the earlier X100T. The images and colours you got were still very impressive back then. And those wonderful shots of the children, their eyes and faces full of excitement, and wonder. Still young enough to find the world a new and fabulous place before they grow up to the grim realities of life. The video also gave me glimpses of a city I had not seen before, and one that I have now put on my list of places I want to go and see for myself. Thanks Bert, for making and posting this.
Best review on RU-vid. Went through everything in an entertaining way. Loved the part with the family. Very genuine and also showing the instax printer.
That was amazing how you got complete strangers so comfortable and laughing for some great pictures. That's some real pro stuff right there - not just photography skills, but social skills as well. I'm eagerly waiting for Fuji to release X100F next month, so I can pick up the X100T for bargain price.
Five years on the X100T is still a great camera and today sells for about 70% of its original price, much better than its peers. The X100F has a greater resolution and a few more features but the X100T is still very good and more than enough for most folks. Even the original X100, still an excellent camera, sells for about half of its original price.
Thank you. This is a great review and the quality of the filming, sound recording and editing is excellent. You say you find it difficult to ask strangers if you can photograph them but you have a very nice and genuine way about you that makes seem easy and natural - you really gave the grandparents and children some fun and enjoyment and a moment they will remember.. You also take fantastic images.
Bert, I very much enjoyed your video. It helped me to decide whether to buy the X100S or the newer X100T. Thank you. What was the verticle item you placed on the hot shoe? Where can I buy it. Love your sense of humor!
Not only is this my favourite review of the x100t, by a LONG way, but there were also some incredibly useful tips in there too! Thank you very much for making this video!
I never comment on a camera review, but this video is just one of a kind. Not just in photography point of view but the social part of being a street photographer is really sweet to see.
Great video. Not one just for the sake of technological gadgets, but one for to remember what for those gadget are manufactured. Lovely review, lovely grandparents and kids.
What a fantastic video! Not going to lie- I teared up a bit when you started working with the family. It was very touching. I already have the X100T, and now I will also order the printer!
Thank you Bret this is the best review. I haven't seen you since you confession of a photographer series and to be honest I had forgotten about you maybe for couple of years. And now bang, you have reminded me about yourself. I hope you continue doing videos, but perhaps not only reviews, but maybe more photography and the Fuji X100T in my opinion is the perfect reason to start a new series of the confession of the photographer. All the best, and I am waiting for your new photography series.
Sehr sympathisch, wie Du mit den Kindern und ihren Großeltern agierst, um Streetportraits zu bekommen. Und der Sofortbilddrucker ist dabei natürlich Gold wert.
Bert, thank you so much. That was one of the most informative and entertaining reviews I have seen in my too many years watching you tube to hunt for my next camera. I watched this to help me decide whether to upgrade from the X100s. Not only has it convinced me of that but also of the merits of the two converters and the Instax printer. Unfortunately it's good bye to a few pieces of Leica film gear to fund. Thanks again!
Found you channel because of the Fujis, i am a Landscape Photographer from Germany, not so far from Brussels, and i am definitely will go more Street Photographie now. I use to go with my big DSLR on the streets, but the amount and clunky stuff you have to take with you put me of so i stopped it completely. Now i just bought me a X30 (what a beauty), and i find it a great little camera with great image quality. Maybe next year, after my Fototour to the scottish Highland i might check out the xpro or xe2, i am feeling that could be a gear change for me away from the DSLR to the Fuji System Cams. Keep up your good work Bert, looking forward for more footage videos. I planning to do the same with my little action cam, just need to find a mount to fix it on the x30.
It was your X100S review that got me into buying mine. Now I need to consider another upgrade and it's very tempting. The X100S is my go everywhere camera. Loved your section with the portraits. Nice. Thanks again for a great review.
Great review Bert. Nice to see a reviewer actually using the camera in a proper field test.. Thanks for sharing. I'd be interested to know if you tweak any of the B&W settings..
Excellent review! I love how you show us the highlights of the camera while using it in real life and presenting it in your own, very natural, way. Well done!
Absolutely amazing video, there is no better demonstration of the Fuji X100T out there. You show the camera in its natural habitat: With people out there. The way you interact with them (and at other times choose not to interact with them) is fabulous! THAT is the art of people photography and the Fuji X100T shows what it is in this video: The PERFECT tool for this job. Very inspiring video. I'd say this is the best video on photography in general that I have ever watched. ( Thank you for pointing me towards the tele converter and the printer as well, very handy.)
This is really one of the best reviews I have seen, beautiful work, you actually show the camera in use, the family portrait session is also one of the best. Once again well done regards Kevin
Nice review. The last part gave me a genuine smile. The way you spoke with the family, especially with the children is so fantastic! Great job! I'm still saving up for an X100T. Btw, what's your camera bag? I kinda like how it seems discrete. Thanks!
I really like your videos, but this one in particular is fantastic. Would love to see more of you doing what you do best, and getting some of your own personal insight into what makes you tick with your photograph. Great video :)
Great video! This camera is great for street photography, the way you did this video is the best way to review the camera. Keep up the great work. Cheers
Ordered one. My X100S will stay in the family and go to my teen-age daughter (who loves it as much as me). Still not ready to give up my full frame gear for a Fujifilm X system (sports shooting), but this particular camera is an amazing addition for an everyday camera. It's such a joy to use. Looking forward to the subtle improvements of the X100T.
Hey Bert. I really enjoyed watching your video. I thought you were awesome with the kids. They all seemed so comfortable with you. I do street photography also and I picked up some really good things from watching you. I just sold all off all my dslr gear and went to the Fuji XT1. I loved my X100 and now I have and love my X100s but I have been thinking about selling my X100s also since I got the XT1. Now after watching your video I'm thinking on adding the X100T to my collection. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for all of the information you shared. I'm really hoping to see some more street photography tips in your future videos.
Read your comment. I carry a XT1 with 56mm f/1.2 and x100S as a two-camera street kit. Both fit easily in a small bag and I find it easier to grab a different camera than swap lenses. I do wish Fujifilm would make their user-interface (button layout) consistent for those who own multiple cameras. Especially on the XT-1, where finding buttons by feel is nearly impossible (due to the flat/flush styling).
einfussganger Thanks for your reply. Yes that sounds like an ideal combination. I agree, the buttons on the xt1 can be a little challenging. Having quite a few of them being programmable helps me though. When you shoot on the street how do you ever use the face detection or pre focus option on the xt1. Just curious how you set up your camera. I tried changing the size of the focus point but I had a little trouble with focus seeking if I made it to small. I have only had my xt1 for a week now so any tips on the xt1 you have figured out would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Nice review, thank you. I enjoyed the interaction with the family and the views of your beautiful city. I'm a lifelong Nikon shooter, have dabbled in various Leicas, but have to say that Fujifilm is really doing a great job winning the hearts and minds of photographers today. Still not sure if I want to upgrade from the S to the T, especially if Fujifilm makes the T firmware available.
Excellent review !!! I've already the X-T1, but this camera will be my next one. I'm also street photographer, and this video, confirms that this camera is the one I need. Great video, always great job and great photographies !!!
Great review and streetshots. Just bought one yesterday for my streetphotography, to replace my Fuji X10 that was stolen a few months back. I did streetphotography with nearly every kind of equipment from the Yashica matt 6x6, over the Nikon F2 with 400mm to the leica M3. I started streetphotography at an early age with a Diana camera in Romania on holiday. (the camera got smashed by military ...). I needed to restrict myself to a fixed lens, because I am a bit of a 'zoom-fanatic'.
So far the best and useful review. Bedankt en proficiat. So nice your approach with people :-). I prefer that than "taking" a picture. If i may, what are you using the most, OVF vs EVF vs Hybrid VF? Isn't it too boring to put, on and off, the converters and change the menu settings every time? Thx.
Great review. Very helpful to me. I learned a lot and it has helped me make a decision on purchase. You are a very good teacher as well as photographer. Thank you!
Great review, thanks, and that Instax printer is a brilliant idea. First time I've seen a video where it's been used with the X100, and the same goes for the teleconverter. This is something I sometimes missed on my X100S - the ability to have a longer focal length for defocusing the background. Last thing: you're a natural when you interact with people, have more confidence in yourself, I think you're doing great. People seem very at ease with you, more so than the majority of other pros I've seen on youtube.
Hi Bert, I lived near Belgium for years and you reminded me that time, now I live in Saudi Arabia.... a big change but still miss that time and the Grimbergen. Regarding your B&W photos, did u just set the x100 for this or post processing? Because I see an excellent contrast. Tks
Great video and a great camera. Bought one a few months ago and now thinking of selling old 5DII and lenses. I have a quick question... How can you lock it so that the metering is done at the focus point and not the centre? Or is it automatically the default setting? Thanks again for a great review. I have now subscribed and look forward to more. Cheers from Tokyo.
Hi Bert, a really great review. Love the feature with the street portraits you brought in. I own an X-T1, which I love as an addition to my Canon 5DIII. I'm trying see if it's possible to make a camera setup that's so mobile that I can go on a job on my motorcycle. The Fujis certainly gets it in the right direction. The X100T might become a second camera, as you state, to avoid the lens flipping all the time. Best regards from Denmark...
Great review and I've never used the wifi option. I'd kind of forgotten it was there. Loved the street portrait and that you printed the shot directly there. Would you mind sharing details about that portable printer. I've subscribed to your channel. Such an informative and clear commentary. Great photography too.
Awesome review and incredible street shots. WOW that portable printer is very cool. I want one of those. What is it?How cool to give those kids/grandparents their shot as a Polaroid right after taking their pix. A lot of folks really miss that instant pix you can hold in your hand. My grandpa used to LOVE taking pix of people with his Polaroid camera. Expensive as heck film though but a lot of fun. Please advise. thanks.
+bertstephani Great review! Quick question though. I noticed the lens you were using on this video was the 23mm f1.2...But when I looked for it in camera stores, they only had 23mm f1.4 and not "f1.2". I'm from Sydney Australia by the way and wishing to buy the 23mm f1.2..Looking forward for you response. Thank you!
Great review. Very informative and the gave great hints at how to use the wifi functionality (accompanying the instax printer) to further enhance interactions on the street whilst using the mobile app to take even sneakier candid shots. Thank you so much...I'm off to buy one to accompany my beloved X100 :)
Could you elaborate more on the video quality, I know it's not the best but I'd like to hear from you on your thoughts. Plus I wanted to use this as an everyday camera for both photos and short videos. I was thinking about getting one, and your video review was definitely a deal breaker. :)
great video and truely beautiful pictures! might sound like a stupid question, but do you reconfigure all your settings specifically to the needs of the pic or do you also shoot (partly) in automatic mode? Thank you!
Btw Bert, I'd like to know your opinion on x100T's manual focusing capabilities? is it easy to use the focus ring (like in old rangefinder film cameras) ? I will be using this camera for documentary/photojournalism style photography. I'm currently using a X-T1 with a 35mm lens(50mm FF). But I'd prefer 23mm f2 (35mm FF). I'm thinking either i should get a used X100T or 23mm f2 lens (I plan to sell the x-t1 and get a x-pro 2 to use with it). I also don't like to gather too much gear as it distracts me. I'd say I'm an advanced armature photographer. I'm mostly concerned about the manual focus ring/optical viewfinder of the x100T. Otherwise, I should get a used x100F and keep my X-T1. What's your opinion?
Ugh, I love the silver one but they were sold out. Should get mine (black) in a week. Excited to take it on the street and leave my massive canon at home.
+Bert Stephani first of all great video, thanks :) in second im xt1 owner and i tried different lenses and case bags till select 27mm to make it comfortable for documentary, street and daily shooting, but as much as efforts to be convinced for my investment (xt1 and lenses) i couldn't! i shot some with x100t and i dont understand why it is so lovely to hold and shoot? its because of place of viewfinder, lighter, classical shape of body, portability, what? i watched several and several videos, and carefully i compared lots of reasons (logical and emotional) and i found out your review! however, please share with me your opinion, and let me know if you were instead of me, how you were invest for buying a x100t beside keeping xt1 or buying other lenses for xt1? etc... thanks
Fantastic review Bert... Just bought an X100T a couple of days a go, I'm new to Fuji but loving this camera can't put it down! Wanted to ask that Gopro housing and attachment you used is that a Gopro accessory ? Would love to use the same set up as you did Bert. Best Wishes from Australia :)
