Pro-tip, clear primer will remove purple primer in the event of an accidental stain. Knowing this has saved me more than once from an otherwise horrible and costly situation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the primer has a window of 30 seconds to apply the cement. Otherwise a complete chemical weld may not occur. Common and costly mistake for those who like to prep before hand.

Leave a piece of pvc in a bucket of primer and it’ll be squishy for months

Some plumbing codes don't permit clear primer and the inspector wants to see the purple primer on the pipe.

Great video. Not many people follow the proper steps with cpvc and wonder why it doesn't cement together properly. I prefer copper or even pex over it but it's still great for certain things like condensate drains and also stuff at places like water treatment plants and swimming pools. As much as I hate it, being able to work with cpvc makes it easier for me to be a plumber.

I came across plumbers not using primer. They even quote independent tests done which show non primed pipes hold better.

Well in my Country PVC Primer is not readily available and C PVC is also not Readily available, We use U PVC Pipes and with either the cleaner and cement or directly only Solvent cement.

Never used primer on cpvc. It’s not needed because it uses a two step glue.

If it’s not going to be inspected just use Christy’s red hot blue glue. No primer needed and sticks like cement in 30 seconds I love to put drains together with it

I am an amateur DYIer, when is the clear cleaner used vs the clear primer? I get what you are saying, but I am sure I have used clear cleaner as a primer step, perhaps in error. I don’t use purple primer anywhere the pvc/joint may be visible.

In Czech, we just weld them, with Heath. But, it doesn't look like simmilar pipes, our pipes Are thicker.

I worked hvac for awhile and our boss if he came on the job and seen purple primer being used he'd give you 3 days off not paid because it looked like crap and often drip or drizzled down the pipe.

It definitely does look like s***, but someone commented that sometimes the inspector wants to see purple, so he knows it's been primed.

Do u use lava glue? I've never primed cpvc, only pvc. I stopped priming toilet flanges on replacement because it's easier to chip out the old flange

if you ask me lava glue doesn't hold as good as a primed joint, I would only use it in wet conditions

uh oh...i haven't been priming cpvc...nowadays i only use it for the t/p valve on water heaters...i'll have to look at the label and make sure its one step glue...

The drip leg on a relief valve is supposed to be a non-ferrous metal copper galvanized brass etc not PVC or CPVC

@@ricklee827 where I'm at in Virginia we use ipc so maybe it's allowed here? I've done maybe 30 this way and no inspection failures yet except once where the pipe was too long it needs to be 2 inches above the pan.

@@jonathandevries2828 I've never heard of IPC pipe if you meant PVC I would check your code book just for curiosity reasons I'm in New York but if that relief valve goes off on over 200° water and 150 lb I believe it'll melt that PVC you're only as good as your teacher and I have had to school some inspectors look into it and let me know what you come up with thanks

@@ricklee827 Ipc is the code we use: international plumbing code, your right it can't be pvc, but cpvc is okay
