The water is crystal clear--wear polarized sunglasses. Destin also has some of the finest restaurants on the planet.I would love to live there some day. Also on vacation--our waiter lived at one of the condos near there and used a jet ski to get to work--man imagine that--using a jet ski to get to your job a few miles away.
@@jhentravellife I moved to Panama City in seventh grade but I did go through hurricane Opal. Currently located in Orlando Florida but this made me so happy to reminisce I can’t believe how much has changed. Sending love to you and yours!
@@jhentravellife When I hit high school in Panama City I knew I had to get the you know what out of there. Small town is great but I had to get the hell out of there. I lived in Louisiana Texas Arizona Colorado but I always seem to come back to Orlando.
I've only been to Destin once and it was supposed to be an annual trip until the pandemic happened. My parents have us booked for this May and I can't wait.
I stay 34 miles away over in Panama city beach boy i tell you i ride my motorcycle over the bridge and everytime i just have to stop and just take it all in i love it fam tried miami not my cup of tea ft walton to Panama city is a world of its own so quiet and peaceful
Great info! One quick thing: High Tide happens year round, and it happens twice a day. You can check the tide schedule online anytime you visit to know when the water is clearest blue. But tides happen all year long!
Enjoy yourselves. My daughter had stage 4 cancer and was granted a wish and this is where she wants to go. I will say she kicked cancers ass and is cancer free since February
I just got back from Destin a couple days ago (August 2021), we didn’t research it very well, we thought it was a raised sandbar with tiki bars and fun vendors. So it was the slower time of year there was some venders they had t’shirts, then we find out they don’t sell alcohol, and to be honest we would have had a better time at the ocean in front of our townhouse Air B&B. We were a little disappointed there was hardly anyone there and we thought we could buy drinks. So timing is key to having fun there, and bring your alcohol. This was just my opinion, but someone else may totally enjoy it.
I had a nice time a few weeks ago... it was mild compared to our party Lake of the Ozarks.. I don't like our kids on our lake much but crab island was kid friendly and safe.
Great information. . . Ive spent many summers and a few winters vacationing to Destin/PCB . . .you shared some things I wasn't aware of . . I've never been out to crab 🏝️. . . wanted to go out there before. Thank you.
For #11 - The tide reverses at certain times in the day also. Instead of it pulling in ocean water, it sucks out the bay water. Goes from blue pool water look to ugly river water in a matter of 30 mins or so. Happened around 4pm ish in Aug 2021 when we went. Luckily we were leaving around that time
Thank you so much for sharing your very interesting 📷📸 The crab Island 🏝️ is so wonderful but the ideal time to visit during low 🌊 wherein you can walk in the ⌛⏳ please check the calendar to get the info for high tide and low tide♥️♥️♥️Have a Nice Sunday and enjoy♥️🙏♥️ Full watched 💯🇵🇭🔔 new friend
I’m a charter Captain in the Destin area, and I’ve lived here for over 20 years. I’ve taken hundreds of groups to the Crab Island sandbar, and spent thousands of hours there. There are a few things in this video that are incorrect. There are no floating playgrounds on that sandbar. They were banned about seven years ago. The tide cycles happen daily, and differ from day to day. We usually have one tide cycle per day, but about once every two weeks we have a semi-diurnal cycle…two high, and two low tides in a 24-hour day. The water at the sandbar appears “blue” when the incoming tide forces clear water up the 1.3 miles of Destin Pass, from the Gulf to the sandbar, when you have sunlight.. It happens for only part of the day, and it does not happen every day. It certainly does not happen for weeks or months at a time. Trying to determine when the water will be clear and appear “blue” at the sandbar requires an understanding of both tide timing and of tide strength.
Google says the highs are around 70s and lows are around 50s. So people have commented that the water is cooler for those who live there, but stated tourist may not notice.
Me and 5 other friends are thinking about going to crab island in may. And trying to find the best way to get to crab island... no one knows how to drive a boat and probably half of us would be drunk by the end so If we got paddle board, paddling half our crew back wouldn’t be a good idea... so would a pontoon boat With a captain be one of the cheapest ways?
Thanks for information will be our families first trip to this area in a couple weeks hopefully we are allowed to make the trip and the beaches don't close again
Sofia Leick it was great. A lot of people in the afternoon but the water was beautiful and clear. We had a friendly dolphin encounter. Pack a cooler with drinks it is very hot. We also took snacks. Otherwise enjoy it's business as usual down there. Also we rented out own pontoon and there was very little price difference.
@@javierortiz1296 sorry I dont we just do destin, just Google pontoon boat rentals in Pensacola. And ask if they have any sand bars to go to. When we first started going to destin we just Google stuff and found what we wanted to do.
I went summer 2020. Came down from Connecticut. Was in Florida seeing my sister she took me there.. We did the dolphin boat ride.. dope!! Seen sharks too. The vibe was right. Mad chicks. Good drinks had a few🍹 . I zip lined for the first time. Good vibes Destin is a definite go to. I did pcb back in 2018
Memorial day is one of our busiest days and traffic is terrible. Us locals avoid crab Island on memorial day, labor day and the 4th of July bc it's just too crowded and the traffic is already terrible on 98 on a normal day. Lol
I've been getting mixed comments of some people saying they are gone. But they were right in main area of Crab Island. You can check out my other video of the area here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ym2v7k8eLro.html
Lol no. They're not that bad. They're not like box jellies. They burn but not fatal unless you're allergic. The top doesn't sting you anyway, only the cnidocytes on their tentacles do.
Rarely haha the amount of boat traffic and people tend to scare them off. Ntm all of the music being played. I've lived here 35 years and have only see 1 hammerhead on the island. Any other shark I've seen were the ones I caught while shoreline fishing.
There's other ones. Im a local here. I think the Emerald Grande at the foot of the bridge has one. Also quite a few of the small charter boats actually sit around the bridge and fish the jetties if they don't have a charter. But I've seen them stop what there doing to pick someone up and drop off. Just have to make sure you have a ride back. Or ask the captain when he's done for the day. Thanks guys, stay safe, stay wet and stay Florida!!
Update!!! Jamie Fox was here at Crab Island!! He was not what I expected. He was super cool!! Had a great time. I've got pictures but can't figure out how to post it . Maybe I can send it to J-Hen Travel and Services. Since its his channel.
So... to sum it up in 45 seconds or less..... 1. Crab Island is not an actual island. 2. Water is 1-4 ft deep where island USED to be. 3. Crab Island is only accessible buy boat, strong current don’t try to swim it. 4. Water is beautiful, go during High Tide 5. No sale of alcohol on island area, but they will sell you virgin drink at the tiki hut and comp you a free shot or two of vodka or other liquor if you buy the virgin drink. 6. Bring your cash and/or card because they have floating water park and food, etc. Snow cones, Ice Cream, etc. 7. Bring your waterproof Camera or phone to take photos. Waterproof Speakers 8. Most people don’t mind you to join their party. 9. During Weekends, they have live ands, live music. 10. There are plenty of places that’ll rent you a boat or paddle board. Water Taxi’s. 11. Best time to go is during high tide and from March to October.
Except no free comps of liquor.. some vendors were shut down last year for doing that so they're policing it hard. Virgin Daiquiris only, and all liquor is BYOB!
@@hello_megs Thanks for the reply. I guess the water temperature is very relative. I live in Southern California. In April of this year I went to Florida for the first time. Our first stop was Naples. Prior to going to the beach, we asked the receptionist at the hotel how the water was. He said it is still cold. Slightly disappointed, we headed to the beach. When I stepped in the water, it felt like I was stepping inside a jacuzzi. I remember thinking- you call this cold? Really? Lol
@@CaliSteve169 yep. It all depends on the person honestly. I've found that most tourists don't think the water is chilly when we do. Lol I think it's probably bc most of them come from up north and are used to way colder temps. So the water feels nice to them.
@@kb6175 I live here, it's warm almost year round. It's colder from late November to March (to us locals anyway) but most of the tourists don't care and they swim in it anyway. They all say it doesn't seem cold to them. Probably because most of them are from up north and used to the cold. Lol
Wow! That's Cool that water is only 1 to 4 ft. Beautiful water. The floating vendors are amazing. The restaurants on the water are really convenient. All great facts about Crab Island. 🏝 💛
@@cindymorris4129 yes. The water is shallow where all the boats are parked. You can check it out in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ym2v7k8eLro.html
where is the best place to park or can u send a link on a map? also did you see people take a baby there? i have a 1 year and would like to take them there, is it allowed?
We parked near the Harbor Walk area. Yes kids were there if you check out my other RU-vid video you will see the inflatables for children to play on. Also in the video I'm putting below in the first few minutes the guys on our boat shared lots of infomation that I filmed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ym2v7k8eLro.html
If you are taking a baby out there, I do not advise you keeping that baby in that sun w/sunblock for more than 40 minutes, and that might still be too long. That sand & water reflect that sun & sunburns creep up before you know it.
@@Hornet-vh6fv i live here trust me theyre there we catch them when were bored or drank to much. just need something bloody that flops around.but porpoise will scare them away most the time they show up and they're just as common.
@@kevpick9956 I've lived here my entire life (35 years) and have only seen 1 shark (a hammerhead) on the island. I've caught plenty of bull sharks shoreline fishing though.
Crab island use to be a family friendly destination, but lately I have seen more and more tRUMP and confederate flags. The drinking also gets out of hand some weekends.
Mic had an echo back then. Just rewatched and I think people can hear everything that I'm saying. Just could be annoying to some with the echo. Thanks for stopping by the channel.
Not on crab Island. I've lived here for 35 years and have only seen 1 shark on the island. The amount of boats and people tend to scare them off. We mostly have bull sharks and hammerheads and they aren't as aggressive as most think.
