I'm an American, and this wasn't written for me, but this is one of my favorite bits of TV all the same. I revisit this once every few years. It hits on something American TV is scared to touch: how many white domestic terrorists start out just being poor, frustrated guys with nowhere to go and nothing to lose. Albie's last speech is haunting and accurate from an American perspective. I don't think it's that far off from how a lot of these real-life guys see themselves.
Jimmy McGovern and Dennis Potter were/are by far the finest (script) writers on English tv, imo. Superb story telling with an incredible bunch of truly outstanding actors. They were for me the best of years. Cheers!
I used to get stoned back in the day when this first aired and when the interrogation scenes were playing i was so overwhelmed but the intensity. Remarkable writing and acting
Intense! No, it’s not underrated, it is well-rated & highly rated. It led to future success for both Coltrane & Carlyle. Harry Potter, Full Monty The Beach, Once upon A Time. So there!
The guy that played Albie did a fantastic job! This is the first time I have seen this show. The guy that played Fitz did a fantastic job also! I live in the USA and PREFER these shows over ours any day!!! So much better!!!!
The actor of that name, or the character he plays? Yes, the Character, 'Jim Best' is one nasty bit of work, the type that gives all police a bad name; But the Actor...?
One of the most shocking UK TV dramas I have ever seen.,.can't beat UK drama, writers, actors etc etc .,and that was then ....look at what they have achieved.,,.we rock .,check out my Welsh hinderland xx
I enjoyed the movie, it had me Feeling kind of tence. Movies like this Movie Gives Psycho's out there Ideas. It is what it is. It's the Kind of WORLD Which we Lived In. At Present Putin's Exsicuting Mass Murdering of Innocents And 1/2 The WORLD is Staving. One Country is Holding the rest of the World Hostage. 5 🌟☮️.
They don't arm their cops in the UK, and back then operations were a lot closer to the ground like that. If you're American (like I am) you grow up thinking all cops are similar to occupying military forces, but that is not the case in many first world countries.
My Great Grandmother was full blooded Blackfoot and my Great Grandfather was German....so "me" and "myself" don't get along very well, and "I" just get in there to give them both a hard time.
I had no idea that caps were considered rude, I thought they were like to make more of a point, to make someone see how much you wanted something, and I'll never do it again like that! My bad, and I never put my credit card on-line anyways. It is just that those shows were on RU-vid, the ones I want are not on sites like PrimeWire, and they are the ones I love the most. Thanks!
Your loss lad. This is one of the best pieces of television drama ever. Sums up the sense of despair and anger every British working class male goes through at some point.
***** This country probably will blow come next election. All the dominoes are lined up and they're about to fall. Funny enough what Albie says in this episode could be more relevant now than ever.
" If you answered the door yourself you bone idle bitch" the way you could talk to women in the 90's, and in all fairness she;d give just as good back. Miss the good old days.
Wow! Dr. Who, "Beggbe" from Trainspotting and a man so fat he must be from America. Funny bit is that they don't have fat actors that are stars in America. The only fat star I can name is John Candy and he was Canadian.
Seth Rogen, Zack Galifrinakis, Jack Black, Phillip Seymour Hoffmann, Drew Carey, Kenan Thomson, Kevin James, John Goodman, Orsen Wells, Danny Devito, Jason Alexamder, Vincent Pastore, Oliver Hardy, Paul Giamatti, George Wendt, Kevin Smith, John Belucci etcetera
When I think Carlyle I think of Hitler, and bloody Madonnas ex husband Very under rated actor and when I think Coltrane I think of Mona Lisa with Bob Hoskins, another fine actor Hell im just a colonial hahaha, also an Anglophile
