Nice one! I've found the same as far as priming goes. No more than getting the fuel to the carb is necessary. All of the Mosters I've had started on the first or second pull until my current one. It was much harder and required cracking the throttle. I tweaked the low end a bit and now it's a consistent one or two pulls with no throttle needed.

Thanks T! Choking down the low jet a bit was my next move. Coming from the nitro, it required quite a bit more prime once the fuel got to the carb, and I initially struggled with underpriming. I made the assumption "same carb, same method" that was a fail, lol!

I second Tucker. Prime the fuel just til it touches the carb and its 1st or second pull every time.

I guy I fly with taught me pretty much the same technique. Basically, get the fuel to the carb and just a super tiny squirt of fuel into it, pull the starter cord slowly to cycle the tiny amount of fuel through through the engine, then give it a good yank; sometimes a touch of throttle depending on your motor. 90% of the time, it works every time. Every once in a while I need 2-3 pulls.

Thank you so much for the video. I think I'm dialing in on the same solution. My first two paramotors (Polini and Nitro) seemed to love to be flooded. The 185+ doesn't fit the same mold. She seems to prefer a very mild prime and a cracked throttle, just like yours. One challenge for me is the bubble in the fuel line. Sometimes it's hard to get a light prime because there is so much air in the fuel line. I'm still dialing in how much attention I should pay to that.
@kyleoglee
@kyleoglee 6 лет назад
I brought over my priming method from the Nitro as well....same carb, same prime right?......(Donald Trump voice) WRONG! Ha ha! Regarding the bubble, ignore it.
@MarcReiter

@@kyleoglee My method for priming my nitro is to blow util the fuel hits the carb, then 4-5 more seconds! I've got a Moster coming next week. Good to know I don't need to prime it as much. Hopefully with dual start it won't matter much anyway. :-)

Thanks Kyle. While visually this is not my favorite video of yours but your approach with the heart of a teacher made this one of my favorites! My maverick turned out to be the same as your final conclusion. Keep up the great videos!

So I got my Minari 200. When I first got it started, it idled way too high. I adjusted the L screw a whole 45' CCW. That fixed the idle issue but it took like 20 pulls to get it started (with throttle squeezed). I watched this video and did what you and Tucker suggested, went out to the garage...and BAM! It worked! Thanks! You deserve a coin!

Haha I just tried this after I watched this video. Turns out I have been over priming my moster 185 aswell. Prime to the carb, 2 slow pulls and then one pull starts mine. Thanks Kyle!

Appreciate all your videos on the Parajet Maverick 'tuning'. I have the same setup (except with a noob Ozone Mojo PWR wing) - and was somewhat disturbed as a completely new PPG pilot to find that my brand new paramotor (with supposedly one of the best tried&true motors) had such difficulty starting as a brand new motor - at sea level.

Kyle, on my Mav with Moster Plus, I squeeze the bulb first then one push on the button to clear the bubbles, first pull usually. If it goes past 3 pulls, crack the throttle a bit. Works for me.
@CKPOFamilyFun
@CKPOFamilyFun 6 лет назад
I don't worry about flooding it and probably do it every time. But I do have to crack the throttle or pump the throttle as I pull and she starts everytime in one or two pulls. If I do flood it, when it starts I need to run it up for a couple seconds to burn out all the fuel. Looks like you got her figured out!

Good info KO. Every 2 cycle engine I've ever had required prime, choke and open throttle for cold start. The number of prime pumps was the variable for each engine.

Thanks Kyle... I will try that. Just got a Mav after the nitro I sure miss the E start. My dealer is hooking me up with the new Moster dual start.. No more sore arm for me.
@MitchG

My cold start depends a lot on how you have the low needle tuned. I found if the low needle is on the rich side ( like in this video) then you just need to get fuel to the carb. Yours seems to be pretty rich because you still need to crack the throttle. Also the motor looks like it's running rough at low speed. If you turn the low screw in just a hair then the motor will run smoother at low speed and you wont need to crack the throttle to make it start. You will know that you have gone in too far on the low needle if the motor dies when you give some throttle. It's very sensitive. Also being rich at low speed has been know to cause exhaust cracks from the extra vibes. If you do lean the low needle a little then you may need to add half a squirt with the prime bulb to make it start.

Thanks so much Mitch and Kyle. I just got mine three days ago, and was waiting to build the carry rack like Kyle's got before starting it. I would have cried like a baby if I would have pulled that many times to start a new motor after spending all that money on it. Would have been right up there with a craftsman chain saw or weed wacker. Ron.

Hi Kyle, I have the Mav with the Mostor 185 motor and always find it starts well with one prime after fuel reaches the carb and full throttle. As soon as it fires return the throttle to idle immediately and the the motor is running.
@iantherealg
@iantherealg 6 лет назад
My moster 185+ pull starts the first or second pull almost always. It's about 1.5" of fuel from the line into the carb, tilt toward the air box, and then I push the spring in the carb a couple times until I hear it go "schllpp". Then one smooth pull on the flash starter and it fires up on my back. I kept my jets at the factory default.

Like you said Kyle you have to figure out your combination, my moster has about 70 hours on it and my combo is pump it up tight push the carb fill up button just until you hear the air out and the fuel in then stop pull a couple of times if it don't start pump it up again push the button and usually I'm good to go, after that it starts first pull every time, I love my moster we are BFF.

Hey Kyle, how long do you warm up your motor before launching. Do you have a temp gauge that you run the engine up to a certain temp before heading out? Seems people feel that a slow warmup is key to a long life on the engine.

Checking for spark. I just made up a lead with alligator clips on each end. one to the block, one on the plug threads with it in the boot.. can pull the plug closer to me, or move in front of something black or in shade to look for the spark. Also insures when I pull the starter to with the plug out, no possible damage to the ignition.

Enjoyed this on man. For what it's worth, I give mine half a squeeze (maybe 2 small half squeezes) with the carb button depressed and then push the button rapidly a few times to release and bubbles. Starts within 3 pulls Everytime! ✌️

All membrane carburetors are like that dude. They don't have a float bowl. So basically every drop you prime beyond "to the carb" goes straight inside the filter. From there sucked right into the crank case. You barely even have to prime a top 80. That thing can almost run on fumes. I usually don't even prime it and starts on 1-3 pulls every time :D

Just wanted to let you know that you have some of the most enjoyable videos on this subject. Wanting to get into this sport soon. One of your videos you mentioned the tools to have for the motor. Just wondering what tools you take for a cross country flight as I know the weight can be a problem (or the room to carry them). Keep up the great videos!!

Do you not use the chock on the carb at all ? With my polini, i pump the gas to the carb, turn the chock ON, pull once, motor starts then dies right away. Turn the chock OFF and then it starts first pull.

With my motorized bike 2 stroke 49cc it didnt like cold starts unless i gave the throttle a little juice to get it going. But the large scooter i had needed like 10 pumps on the throttle to turnover. it had battery isssues though. I think the electric start is worth it

Hi. A pretty interesting video. Any chance of tuning one of these beasts. My engine seems great low end and top end however a little rough around mid range. I recently had an engine out. ( a broken terminal connector ) so nothing to do with the mixture but now I'm flying nervous wondering if I'm to rich or to lean around mid range.
@kyleoglee
@kyleoglee 6 лет назад
Remember that too lean runs really great until it burns the piston! Too rich will only foul the plug. Make an adjustment of 1/16 on the high jet, and reassess.
@rayfletcher3683
@rayfletcher3683 6 лет назад
Excellent advise ,Kyle. Been noticing a lot of burned pistons and running problems on utube lately. You are right on ,never run high speed lean. Best way to tell is install EGT . Otherwise tune to max rpm and then richen 1/4 turn. Also important to have both lean and rich mixtures balanced as manufactures direction . Generally 3/4 turn for low and 1,1/2 for high final adjustment should be within 1/4 turn of that. I’ve been flying 2 strokes for 40 odd years. They work if run properly.

I’ve read most people’s starting issues with the Moster is from over priming.

The combination to unlock my Nitro 200 for the time being is 3 to 4 primes slowly then pull slowly first time then 1 to 2 pulls with half throttle each time If it doesn’t start by the third pull then prime one and a half more times then it starts right up

Tilt motor toward carb...press fuel bulb pushing carb primer simultaneously till fuel enters the carb which u can see looking at the fuel line....then upright motor...pull starter...it should start first pull....very simple...

Now, if you could go out and get hold of a 16 year old Solo 210 and re-shoot the video....I would be very grateful, even more so if you could add the tuning specs, how to keep the exhaust from falling off, and generally debug the whole thing, then you would rank in the highest of all ranks in my book.

I have a vittorazi 185 on my snake nanolight trike. What i have found to work for me is this. After blowing the vent tube of the tank ,keeping the carb metering valve open, by pressing the spring button, until fuel reach the carb, then i give 5-7 pulls keeping the valve open. After this, i give a little bit of throttle and the engine starts by the first or the second pull. Like in this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CKc0QrIlbYs.html

Ok, I'll add my two cents. Not flying a moster, I've got the EOS150. It likes the primer bulb squeeze and press on the diaphram to let air pass trick like they all do ....to basically bleed the air out of the line. Squeeze press, squeeze press, till all air is out and you can distinctly hear fuel spray instead of an air fart, which almost sounds like fuel spray but is not. one more squeeze press combo and you hear fuel spray into the carb again, it's a very distinct sound. so two fuel spray primes, no more, no less. let there be two and only two. two shall be the number of the primes and no other.....you get the idea. now get her up on ya back and hold the throttle 2/3-3/4 open, yes I didn't studder. that no throttle shit is for pu$$ies. I promise you she will at least pop on the first hard pull. None of this soft pull, turn over the motor and let it circulate fuel around through the motor shit. That's crap. Yank that rope like you mean it. If you are lucky it will pop and run on the first pull. If not It's absolutely going to start on pull #2. I've used this technique on every 2 stroke I've ever owned. It works. Just be ready to get off the throttle as soon as she fires.
