bought the cd when came out,i couldn't believe what they ve done in the production.specially in drums.what an amazing band and album.one of my all time favourite bands in metal since dusk that i 've found them.so maybe thats why dusk for me is first and cruelty second
Enjoy them both! A bigger difference between them i thought. The first weird poppy production and this more metal production. This remaster REALLY good thou.
This guy TOTALLY nailed this. The voices of Dani alone, but now you can hear all the choirs better, Sarah and the actress better, and the interplay (and especially the upmixing of the whispers and the deep vampire guy voice Dani uses are WONDERFUL fucking touches). Musically, in some places the synths now overpower the guitars, but we've also never HEARD those synth lines, they were fucking buried, so it's almost NEW music in those spots. I'll take the tradeoff. The drums crack and thunder, as they should, Barker is one of THE BEST at intensity on blasts. To me, this feels like a fucking personal opera version, in headphones OR good speakers, with balls and surround (and perhaps, as intended originally) I'm not even a super Cradle fan, but this album's songwriting and effort at arrangement made it the masterpiece it was. And NOW you add a better job than even Steven WIlson could do??? :O I mean this is literally like the guys who clean the old paintings in Sistine Chapel. After years of dirt and muck, NOW you can SEE the art breathe. If only fucking Ihsahn would allow this for Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, if ever another album DESERVED this kind of production, my fucking god....
@@chiefindisguise @kodanshi Helcarver Please check out my friend's page @Remastered Black Metal Albums and project, he remasters a bunch of stuff. I bought a "Anthems" remix from him it was awesome, appears YT took it down, but his YT page has tons of stuff ru-vid.com/show-UCn9tlagzAcYvA1eduuYDYQA
@Belial 777 I produce, No, these would be either original tracks, enhanced to come to the forefront in the mix, or extra tracks added in because the band chose not to use them in the final mix. It would be rare to have the artist pop back in studio to re-record or ask another person to do them. Plus Dani is still able to execute, if their latest live work is any guide.
Lecter's keyboard work in this record was magnificent and flawless, too bad that he didn't last long in Cradle. Him, Stuart and Nick were the masterminds in this very album.

I like the old artwork better. Awesome as fuck hearing all the differences between the 2 versions though. Ive probably listened to this album way to many times to count since a teenager, so it's nice hearing it a bit different
yeah man. i tried super hard to bring back in barkers kick drums by using software to identify a harmonic of the kick drum and using it to trigger a sample. thats how desperate i was
This album became a classic for me with the remixing work. I always knew there was great music in there somewhere but the original release was just too flawed for me to get on with unfortunately.
Finally we can listen to this song with a full blast of Nick Barker... somehow I always thought the sound of his drums on this album was the reason for his departure... and the drum sounds becomes very poor from this song on
Damn... I remember reading an interview with Nicholas, ages ago in some UK magazine, how they got drunk somewhere, Nicholas somehow got hurt and bleeding, and they just left him like that at the entrance of some hospital. I really can't remember the details, and they did a lot of drunken crap back in the day, but I was under the impression that they didn't quite respect him.
@@Zaragil Dani had an ego, from all the interviews to the magazines I read as a kid. Telling his fans to fuck off when wanting autographs outside of gigs. It's why Cradle suffered loyalty issues.
@@bigmonk802 That's because you are hearing things that you couldn't notice before, but that's the way it was intended. I read that the female backing vocalist was in tears because of the original production. It's nice, finally, hearing the subtle nuances that fled this album; this masterpiece. Justice has been done, I say.

All you people bitching about the 1st one sounding better. You're full of shit. The original sounded muffled and under produced and rushed.... This is what these songs were always supposed to sound like... Powerful.. I can hear everything.. Fuckin amazing..
I am very impressed with this remix/remaster... It's a totally different experience for this old school Cradle fan. I will be purchasing this on vinyl. Yes, it's that good....
Saw them at ozfest 2001, best performance there. Live on radio 1. So dani made a point of swearing as many times as he could in 1 sentence. 🤣 Listening to them again after a loooong break and just sends chills over my body like I'm there again! \m/
Ironically, this is one of those weird CATB tracks that don't really need any exaggerated remastering as far as the drums go. The reason for this is simple - here, you can actually discern Barker's trademark kicks from his snare :)
Cruelty was the first Cradle cd I bought, and the poor production never bothered me. Bought the remistressed cd and after first listen I still loved the original better. But after numerous times I have to admit, I think I like this better.
That fuckin filthy Dan can write some amazingly gripping tales of torture and depravity and brutality like none other. Every song is like a glimpse into the mind of a fucking brilliantly intelligent devil longing for his life story to be heard
This is pretty much my favourity COF Lineup. In particular, Barker und Robin Graves were the best rhythm section they had. Very memorable, distinctive bass lines and all out war drumming - but very tasteful.
When I have kids they'll for some reason the energy listen to the remaster version But when I'm with adults or want the rush of wonderful Adrenaline I'll be listening to the original
