As requested by Lynne, I'm altering playing and game cards to make journal cards, tuck spots or tags. Thanks for crafting with me today! Find Me Here: www.gayleagost...
Gayle! Forget Netflix, I just watch your channel and can’t sleep at night because I am so inspired. Can I go on vacation with you, so I don’t go into withdrawal!
I got a lovey patterned plastic del. bag so I tried to modpodge a bit of napkin on it and I was so suprised when it stayed on it is great to just have a go at something new I love watching you craft I get so much inspiration from you thanks for sharing have a blessed day Nicole UK
Oh my gosh! I only sent the cards to you about two weeks ago, and here you are, already tackling my request. Thank you so very much, Gayle! So many wonderful ideas, and the cards turned out great. I especially liked your coffee-dyed backing assembly line. I will no longer be intimidated by the cards in my stash. The Family Life card is from an unopened game I found at a thrift shop (just $1.99, I think). It's called "Life Times: 1950's edition", and is chock-full of great 50's photos (I'm pretty sure I know where some of these are going). Again, thank you for all the creativity you share. I'm looking forward to part two.
Thank you so much, Lynn, for the request and the wonderful happy mail goodies! Sounds like a lot of folks wondered what to do with game cards! Thanks for asking! ❤️
Hi from the new lady on the block! :) Of course, being new to journaling, I have no ephemera :( I went through my leftover scrapbooking papers and found the ones with all-over prints et al birds, stamps, mini postcards and in my gift wrap selection I discovered a group of butterflies (called a "kaleidoscope" of butterflies amongst other names for them) My husband collects board games, sometimes he picks up ones in second-hand stores to get pieces that he needs to make a complete game. I asked if he had any cards leftover I could have. He gave me a deck of older playing cards, and also two mini decks (that we buy for traveling, hospital, etc) that looked brand new. I felt guilty about using brand new decks!! (I am very frugal) He said he had just unwrapped them and counted them and both decks were short one card. A habit of his because a lot of the board games he buys second-hand are short pieces. So note to all of you, when you buy new cards.......count them!! Keep your receipt whether it be for you or a gift. It is no big deal if it is from the dollar store or a second-hand store, but I have seen decorative cards that are priced over the $30 mark. Anyway thanks for the tips on cards, I am making all kinds of ephemera with things I have around the house and in my craft room. I have done many kinds of crafts over my many years, LOL. However, this is my first attempt at making journals, Thank you for all your great ideas and your thoughts that create new ideas in my strange mind.....LOL
Aww these are so fun, Gayle! I need to go watch some older videos to see about the ‘sewing on a mirror‘ and where you are going on vacation. Work has been SUPER busy this last week or so, it always is crazy after the 4th, and then again after Labor Day. Clint has been making ink blenders as he has time, we tend to have 30 on the list, at all times, sometimes it’s hard to fit everything all in. I was thinking you should put a tag or something on the spine of your ephemera books, you could put something permanent, but i imagine over the months your items inside would change, if you did a tag, you could put ‘mushrooms, butterflies, labels’ then do a do one if your items change, just a thought. You always make me laugh! Big hugs! Chelle
I was so happy to see this pop up on my notifications as I, too, was wondering what to do with playing cards and other game pieces. I have gotten so many ideas from your videos, and I LOVE everything you do! I could watch you all day! Thank you!!
Gayle, if you don’t want jars, like mod podgy to stick. Just rub Vaseline on the top before closing it. That way you won’t have to deal with the bulk. The Vaseline works for about 5 opens and shuts, and then just apply it again.
Ha, you reminded me that I wanted those scissors, so went to your website and ordered from amazon...used one click, and as I have amazon prime, took me 10 seconds to order them. Great idea to get that up and running.
Love, love, love!!! Ohhhhh.... and next the cardboard!!!!! I have masses cut out and had brilliant ideas, and one night... when I was asleep? The Dream Fairy took them away... darn her!! Now I can play with you and not worry about the ideas being stolen away!!🤣❤️
Great tips Gayle. Love the card with the napkin on it. Funny that before I would put certain things in the recycle bin, but now all these things, like cardboard, have crafting possibilities!
Hi Gayle, may I make a suggestion on the shiny playing cards. I learned that if you use a nail file or sand paper to scrape off the shiny part everything will stick better.
Great ideas....saved for future reference..I looked high and low online for that game..not sure if wrong name or just super rare but I couldn't find anything. Those pics were so cute though.🤗🤗💜💜
i have those tweezers! they're great! i LUV how you "gayle-i-fied" the cards 👍 and that little bunny bum stamp is adorable 🐇 i bet you've mentioned it before, but i can't recall.... the images you were "auditioning" as Rachel calls it 😉 mushrooms, butterflies, etc, did you cut them from a book or digi kits? they're wonderful. great share gayle, lots of inspiration and ideas for cards and even for decorating tags, etc. 😍 oh! another thing that could go in "gayle's favs" - the label stickers. especially great for gals who can't print digis-i like the variety and that they're stickers 👍
That's a great idea to use the happy mail before you put it away! So cute! Does Miss Jenny have a RU-vid channel? She had great ideas. I would definitely watch her if she did.
When I find cute cards like the travel one you had, I gesso on the # side lightly so I can journal on it and still have the playing card image on other side. I also lightly sand the shinny off at least the one side, sometimes both. Also Starbucks cardboard cozy’s they put on warm drinks has cardboard already for your crafts! No removal of paper required!
Loved this! Perfect timing. I needed some ideas for game pieces. I was short on time so I speeded you up by 1.75. (No disrespect here.) You really made me smile almost laugh in this speed. I love your soft soothing voice. TFS.
Ha, ha, ha, "glue her lil backside". Oh, Gayle when you are not cutting peoples legs or animal parts or insect wings, you are now glueing backsides, is there no limit to your massacres. Lol. Love that glued backside card. The little girl is precious. Thank you for all I this useful info on game cards and thanks to Lynn for asking. One question, you said you have many things you do with project life cards. Would you please share what else? Many of us have tons of them. Thanks. Hope you are living it up!
I love it when you say, "thats ok" when something doesn't work. this is where I tend to get discouraged and overwhelmed, but when I hear you say this, it is so calming and a good reminder that this is a process and it can take time. Thank you!
Great video and super fun challenge for yourself just using happy mail. I noticed that you have one of the 2 oz. bottles of art glitter glue-- how do you like it?? This is the one that I have and I have used it forever- still haven't had to refill it--but I like the small bottle- fits really nicely in my hand. Also- wanted to tell you- I notified Fabri-Tac, Beacon- let them know my tip broken on my bottle- very weak- and they sent me a new bottle. They said it was part of their old line of the bottle, and the new one is a better designed bottle-- although I don't even see a difference. Just a heads up if that one bottle tip does break off- they will replace the bottle for free if you contact them.
The paper is sticking for now, but eventually the plastic will dry and then peel off. Cards should be sanded before using. But, I guess if you are going to sew them, then that should work. I did a whole pack of cards one night. Everything was sticking just fine. 3 days later, they all lifted and I was left with plastic coated paper.
Question : if I had used like a fingernail file or soft sandpaper on the side to go down, would that it allow to adhere better you think? To take off some of the sheen I mean? Or have you tried that? I'm sure there isn't too much you hadn't tried. LOL!! 😉🤗
Ilearned that if you mist one side of the cardboard with water and let it set for a minute you can peel some of the paper off easily. I did try it and it did work. I guess it loosens up the glue.
Hi GAIL I HAVE A TIP FOR YA WHEN I HAVE CARDS THAT ARE TOO SHINEY. I LIKE TO USE A EMMORY BOARD ON THEM TO TONE THEM DOWN MAKE THEM MORE POROUS. I HOPE THAT HELPS.
Hmm mushrooms?.......... Lets see. Oh, we made a lovely Chicken Stroganoff with them, yum. LOL So, sweet the bunny bum stamp. Thank you for sharing your creating with us. Cheers, Deb xxxooo
O using the AL to get in cracks out of cardboard-great idea! Thanks Gayle, I have some of these types of things and this was a wonderful video for me to get to work on them! Hugs (Robin J)
This was a neat idea!!🤩 It showed me what I could do with playing cards also. I ordered some vintage things from Etsy once and it was old childhood game pieces, cards from games, actual board game box pieces and book pages. I had fun just arranging them and and placing them into a ( Junk Journal as I call it🤩 ) Journal like they were. They had so much character and were so much fun to to look at like that were😊!! I had fun doing it as a New Crafter🤩!! This video just showed me what else to do with items like that and dress them up, thanks Gayle 🤗!!
Hey Gayle, I saw you were having issues with the paper sticking to the cards because of the coating they put on them. Maybe try doing a light sanding on the side you plan on adhering the paper to. It'll remove some of that coating and allow the glue to cling better. You can get a cheap sanding block at almost any dollar store or you could use a nail file.
Loved this tutorial! I prefer that torn edge and love to use napkins/tissue! Every time I see that waxed paper in the lid of the Mod Podge, I think I should do that! The lid always gets stuck! Well, today’s the day! Thank you!
Hi Gayle. Love these ideas for using playing cards and game pieces. Does anyone know what the name of the game is that had the card you cut in half with the vintage b/w photos? I tried to find them online but no luck. I would love to find some of those. Thank you for the great videos!💖
I found that scotch glue stick is better to use when you have shiny/waxy items your gluing to paper. It works like double sided tape but in glue stick form.
Hi Gayle , love your altering your cards , I've been art room cleaning up and found a stash of recipe cards I had started to alter to make a journal from and worked alongside you on these cards.
Gayle I loved it when you lost your vintage photo! I have so been there. Great ideas for all these cards I have stacks that the school I work at wasn't using anymore and they aren't the good flash cards so this was very helpful. Amy ;)
Cindy, I bought them while in Japan at a store called "Tokyo Hands". My daughter and I spent so much time in the stationery department where they have the most amazing (and cutest) selection of paper products. Just checked and they are available online.
Love everything Gayle and I also act like a 4th grader or younger when I am crafting!!! LOL It just gives you permission to play and I think as adults we don’t do that enough. I know I don’t. Love you friend!!!
Thank you for saying hello to me. Hearing it makes me sit up a little straighter!❤️I recently gave away a journal I made and wanted to share with you that my friend said I’m impressed! I told her “my friend Gayle helped me” lol~little did they know. Thank you from Oklahoma to Montana!❤️
I loved your Altered Playing Card Video. I especially like the way you store your ephemera. One question, what did you use to make the “see through “ pockets”? Best Wishes, Kathy Billings
Those are so cute! Awwww the little girl stole my heart, is a beautiful drawing, she look so agelic.will be interesting to know what family games you like when you were little and now that you have a family on your own. Mine when I was little was Manacala we used to play it a lot with my dad and then when a Huracán Maria came we play Scrabble and it was sooooooo fun, he is the best in that. Then with my nephews and nieces is "Who am I"! and Monopoly. We can't play Uno we fight a lot XD. My twin and I enyoy together a lot of games, we play everything if we understand it.
Love the book you have full of goodies!! where Did you get it?, or... What is the link for the video (if one) of you making it??!? :D love watching you craft!! Sooo takented! So thank you for teaching me some new things! Hope to make a book like you'res for goodies if you have a video on it : D
Hi Gayle just a stupid question that me and my wife were wondering...the glitter glue u use does it really have gliter in it...we thought u used glitter glue we bought the elmers purple glitter glue...i think we made a mistake...we watch u every day i want to learn before i try doing my first big journal...still working on urgapoy mail
No such thing as a stupid question! No glitter in Art Glitter Glue! I think it’s names that because it would be great for sprinkling glitter on. If you decide to try it, I have a great little kit of it on my website under Gayle’s Favorite Things which is in the description box under the video. ❤️
I think that was Jenny. She doesn’t have a YT or Etsy in case you were hoping to find her. But she’s had great feedback, so maybe she’ll reconsider! ❤️
